National attention should focus on seniors living along or with someone (family members often are the offenders in abuse towards their senior love one), resulting in a reduction of emotional, and physical, financial and sexual abuse of seniors. At this juncture, the National Center of Elder Abuse Administration of Aging (NCEA) should be involved as well as the Alzheimer’s Association to educate the public on aspects of people who get older and can no longer maintain many parts of their lives, including their health. To implement this initiative, a national focus should turn toward current and new applications for products and services applied in the name of a senior, who is not likely to accumulate debt.

Reading this article for the elderly care, I feel that ethical issues commonly occur anywhere in the treatment of older patients. I had a clinical experience both in an acute-care hospital and in a long-term care facility. Before working in a long-term facility, I was not aware of how many ethical principles were violated in the treatment of older patients as a daily routine as stated in the article. In reality, there are many situations in which older patients don’t completely exhibit their autonomy because they are vulnerable physically and emotionally and dependent on others. Therefore, they become more conscious of caregivers or healthcare professionals.

The United States government is doing a surprisingly little amount for the million of elderly who are being abused everyday. An affective abuse policy increasing elderly protection services is immensely needed. The public should also be informed about elderly abuse, and the individuals who commit the crime of abusing the elderly should have stricter punishments. People in society can help towards pushing for a more goal driven elder justice policy. In the article, “The Elderly Must Be Protected From Abuse,” author Robert B. Blancato explains seven goals which should be addressed towards elderly justice.

Aging policy in America has caused on three domains of security for elders: economic security, health security, and functional security (Chernof, 2011). In the years to follow the crisis of the aging Americans, will need comprehensive intervention that will impact older Americans and what’s really in it for Elders. In devising a plan to ensure that the planners, government, private agencies, health care and service organizations are all devoted to providing and caring for the aging. Significant demographic changes in the history of the American people in this century.

Between 2010 and 2050, the United States population ages 65 and older will nearly double, the population ages 80 and older will nearly triple, and the number of nonagenarians and centenarians—people in their 90s and 100s—will quadruple. (KFF, 2015) Trustees of Medicaid are forecasting that in 2024, Medicaid will start running out of funding. Although there is little evidence in the trustee’s projections it is still something that needs to be looked as more and more people are getting older and are needing benefits vs a number of people putting in. Every day there are 10,000 people turning 65 or older.

The result shows that 46 or 92% of the elderlies wished that they had more respect to themselves. Forty or 80% of them said that they sometimes pity themselves while 34 or 68% of them perceived that they have little or sometimes nothing to help their family and friends. In addition, 33 or 66% of elderlies said that they are not happy with their accomplishments in life while 32 or 64% of them perceived that they do not have capabilities and good qualities that they can be proud of and shared that they find it difficult to accept the changes happening in themselves at the present moment. Moreover, 28 or 56% of the elderlies shared that they often think and wish that they are in other people’s condition while half of them (50%) think and feel that they are useless. The elderly are a largely growing population but they are treated as a minority group. They are placed in assisted living care for numerous reasons such as convenience, health issues, and distress of the informal caregiver. Although assisted living may seem like the best situation for our aging society the movie suggests that this may not be the case. There are many special instances that the elderly have to deal with, such as elder abuse and fraud, as depicted in the movie. Problem Identification Currently, the world faces a shortage of medical professionals as the population continues to increase and with more incidences of chronic illnesses. With the increased the cost of healthcare, telehealth offers an efficient tool for delivery of quality care. The problems that prompted the development of telehealth include: • Large population increase in the U.S. With a 20 percent estimated rise between years 2008 to 2030 (Hein, 2009). • The constraint in number of educated, trained as well as licensed healthcare professionals •rise in chronic diseases incidences globally, such as diabetes and heart failures •the obligation to offer quality care to the elderly, and the home-bound, as well as the physically disabled population

As America 's population ages, there will be other health issues emerging. The most common health concerns for seniors are diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, and cancer. All of these conditions are the leading cause of death.

The process of aging in not an unfamiliar topic to society and is an inevitable phase of life. Since 2011, the number of older individuals are increasing annually particularly those from the baby boomer generation. The life expectancy has been increasing with people living longer thanks to modern medicine. These occurrences are proof that civilization is growing exponentially, however the process of aging also means that the older individuals are facing dilemmas such as decreased physical functions, financial instability from retirement, and abuse. Even older adults who are independent may face some limitations.

Young @ Heart There are countless known stereotypes that allude to senior citizens; many people believe: senior citizens are lazy, isolated and in poor health, the list could go on and on. The documentary Young @ Heart totally eliminates these stereotypes and discards many of the misconceptions people have towards senior citizens. Young @ Heart documents a chorus of senior citizens, directed by Bob Cilman, as they rehearse for their monumental “Alive and Well” performance in their hometown.

I believe that the solutions are effective because a lot of people are not able to afford care services for their parents or grandparents although they wish to take care of seniors. Also, some people do not understand the importance of giving attention and listening to elderly’s views. This book parallels with the course objectives of our HSM 220, “Aging in America” class. We learned that aging population is growing rapidly, and there is a need to promote well-being for age-wise citizens in our society. The Age of Dignity book helps us understand the aging process and encourages us to appreciate the multi-disciplinary approach to health of the elderly.

My older population observational hours allowed me to realize that the elderly are active members of society and have a lot of wisdom to offer to the younger generations. I got to listen to great stories from a great person that I met at a local restaurant. I wouldn’t have imagined the astonishing life experiences people from can go through and now more than ever, I feel grateful for my family and our wellbeing. Getting older is something to look forward to since it’s just a misconception that as you age, you lose your happiness. I now understand that getting older means having more time to enjoy hobbies and family, which bring true happiness to your life.
