Gilded Age Analysis

The Industrial Revolution was happening and it was changing the world around them. The areas taxes and prices of goods raised when the company introduced the bonus checks and higher wages for its employees. It was hard to know exactly what was happening as an employee because most of the laborers had no formal business education, they all did not understand simple day to day business situations. The only people truly profiting from the business was the owner. The laborers, although highly paid, were underpaid at times for the amount of interest the company caused to be put on the items around them.

Industrialization had a positively impact on U.S because Automobiles, Captain Of Industry , and light bulb and Electricity. The industrialization happened in the 1800’s. There was a lot of events that happened in this time period. Reason 1: Andrew Carnegie made old fashioned cars in the 1800’s. He taught many women and men how to drive.

The American Industrialization was in the late 1800’s making many things to improve the economy. The American Industrialization was caused by multiple factors, some of the factors included a growing population, a willing work force, high tariffs, among many more. These effects made people willing to work at lower wages so they can get jobs and buy American made goods. There were many outcomes of the Industrial Revolution, both positive, like improving people's lives, and negative effects, like exploitation of workers. The positive effects of American Industrialization is how it make work cheaper, employed thousands of workers, and improving people’s lives.

The Gilded Age was an age of rapid economic growth. Railroads, factories, and mines were slowly popping up across the country, creating a variety of new opportunities for entrepreneurs and laborers alike. These new inventions and opportunities created “...an unprecedented accumulation of wealth” (GML, 601). But the transition of America from a small farming based nation to a powerful industrial one created a huge rift between social classes. Most people were either filthy rich or dirt poor, with workers being the latter.

This section was centered around the gilded age. This age was most notable for its corruption and inactivity in the government. Questions of whether democracy could succeed in a time that was dominated by wealthy men and powerful industrial corporations that would bribe people for the betterment of themselves. These corporations caused a lot of people to want political and economic reform. Political parties were so evenly divided during this time that no laws were able to be passed.

However today’s context is much greater than that, in fact it involves a weaken labor movement, a hyper mobile, and globalization within corporations creating and reassembling within bending governments to their own will.

In a time where America’s economy was at its low, much work was necessary to rebuild the economy. Those times are revolutionary in history because they are crucial to development, during WWI a lot of progress was achieved, most of it at expenses of peoples lives and believes. However, that is not the case of Henry Ford Model T car and overall work practices. It is true that people made great fortune at expense of others misfortune, but I don’t believe that is enough reason for us to generalize.

Imagine working sixteen hours a day in an unsanitary, dangerous, place for a big business gaining two dollars. This is what laboring-class Americans had to go through during the Gilded age. Politically, the first largest American labor union was formed during the Gilded age and many other organizations formed as well as violent strikes. Socially, different ethnics joined together to share their thoughts and realize the evils of big business and of the federal government. Mentally, most we 're losing their personal life while some were financially stable and glad.

The country started to become more industrialized based, while the agriculture industry decreased. Due to these changes in the economy, industrial workers and farmers struggled.

America was industrializing in the late eighteenth century, which was a movement of industry and factories, and an influx of workers going to the factories to earn money for their everyday lives, which led to many people getting new jobs and fewer people having zero money at all. To the east of America were two other big countries who were trying to industrialize as well. Japan and Russia specifically were industrializing between 1850 and 1914, which affected the industry of both countries. This included factories being converted to automated machinery, however, as a result of the industrialization, Russia was treating its workers much worse than how Japan treated theirs. In a time after the Civil War, when a transcontinental railroad was created connecting the East and West, people began to move and settle across the country, creating new urban cities and manufacturing hubs. It was because of the railroad that the Second Industrial Revolution and the Gilded Age took place which rapidly increased the manufacturing of products through the new machines in factories and the spread of ideas by the telegraph and railroad. It was in this context that many farmers, as well, began to move West and experience a loss in the prices of their crops. It is also in this context that many workers were forced to work long, laborious hours with little pay. Farmers responded to industrialization in the Gilded Age by forming organizations such as the Granger movement and the Farmers Alliance as well as creating the Populist Party.

In 1890, America was seen by millions of immigrants across the globe as the “Land of opportunity”. The place where anyone could become rich if they worked hard enough, equity was evenly distributed to all, and all could live comfortable and enjoyable lives. While for some this dream became a reality, the vast majority of these immigrants were dirt poor, living in cramped unsanitary living conditions, and working low paying, dead end jobs to scrape by while trustees sat on millions of dollars and lived lavish lives. This period of American history is simply known as the “Gilded Age” because although it was a time of prosperity for the US economy, life wasn’t as “golden” for the vast majority of the US population as it was made out to be.
