George Orwell’s Animal Farm ultimately shows that out of all the creatures inhabiting the farm, Boxer is the true unsung hero of them all. A hero is defined as someone who puts their own life on the line and is admired for their outstanding achievements. Heroes are courageous, good leaders, visionary but also humble and hardworking. Nevertheless a hero who performs many noble good deeds, is never perfect in every way. All these qualities are represented by Boxer; he is idolized by many of his companions and had a relentless work ethic yet had his own difficulties. In the same manner, Snowball also possess the qualities of a hero, being the only animal to ever really stand up and argue back to the evil dictator, Napoleon. Boxer was definitely the hero of Animal Farm as he was the most hardworking and tenacious animal on the farm who was idolized by many. Adopting …show more content…
He proves his heroism by standing up to Napoleon, when the other animals were too scared to do so. Snowball is the only animal who actually objects Napoleon's actions as 'it was noticed these two were never in agreement'. Snowball was liked by everyone for his approachable, caring and energetic personality. In addition, he had a vision and future for the farm. He strived to help all the animals have a better life and for the Rebellion to spread throughout England, even conflicting with Napoleon’s ideas. However Snowball 'often won over the majority by his brilliant speeches'. His charismatic speeches led him to be universally liked, with every animal agreeing with his opinions. His efforts to lead much of the start of the Rebellion, especially the Battle of Cowshed, show leadership qualities in Snowball as a hero. As you can see, Snowball could also have been the hero, before getting chased off the farm, as he stood up to Napoleon and gladly performed many good deeds for the wellbeing of the farm and
Boxer one of the horses on the animal farm worships Napoleon and sets good examples for the other animals by working hard and being a good leader. Boxer represents the labor of the working class from the revolutionary war. Boxer contributes to a good leader in many ways such as when Napoleon is mean and does wrong Boxer is still on his side. When harsh weather conditions would strike Boxer would still be determined to get work done.
Even though Boxer is one of the least intelligent animals on the farm, he has the most morality. Beginning from this action, Boxer develops into the purest character in the story. After reading the entire story, this short sentiment impacted me more than anything else. Boxer is the physically strongest farm animal, but he only wants to use his strength to help the animals, not to kill. Even though Boxer is more than capable of killing most people, he values all life and refuses to kill again.
Snowball was run out of the farm and made seem a horrible and untrustworthy leader to make Napoleon seem better and more “on top”. At times, Napoleon even gave himself more superior titles like “our Leader, Comrade Napoleon, Father of all Animals, Terror of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep-fold, Ducklings’ Friend, and the like…. It had become usual to give Napoleon the credit for every successful achievement and every stroke of good fortune.”. Napoleon made every good thing that happened his fault but any mistake, or bad thing that happened, was at the fault of Snowball, although he was run off of the
A hero is a person who would risk their lives and put themselves in danger to help anyone they can, and is a person who cares about more than themselves. Ponyboy was a hero for two things, Dallas for two as well and Darry for one reason. In “The Outsiders,” Ponyboy, Dally, and Darry are all heros for what they have all done. Ponyboy fits the definition of hero by saving the group of children in the burning church in windrixville without hesitation, “I started at a dead run for the Church,”(78). Ponyboy didn't even think about himself getting hurt, but to only save the children from the church.
Boxer was the first animal to wake up and the last animal to sleep. He worked day and night restlessly under the guidance of Napoleon. He was the greatest supporter of animal farm and Animalism, the ideology that runs the animal farm. However, he had to sacrifice his own animal right for the sake of animal farm and the better life of all of us. Also, he was loyal retainer of Napoleon.
Juliette Blalock Singh 4/5 Animal Farm In the satiric novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, the character Napoleon represents a dictator in society, who turns a self-governed and unbiased farm into his own. Napoleon initially unifies with the rest of the animal’s, but soon decides to take matters into his own hands and disposes of Snowball and his proposals towards the farm. He takes advantage of the vulnerable animals so he can become in command. Napoleon is clever, brutal, and dictatorial to the animals.
In this story of Animal Farm, it represents characters and situations that establish a certain time in the Russian Revolution. Also animal farm reflects the Russians and farmer Jones that it represents the Russians Czar. Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin, and Snowball is Leon Trotsky. Boxer serves as an allegory for the Russian who help out to establish the Soviet Union. Animal Farm failed because not all animals are equal.
Napoleon was so threatened by Snowball that he used his 9 loyal dogs to chase Snowball out of the Farm, and then brainwash everyone into believing that Snowball was the enemy. This is similar to when Joseph Stalin ordered one of his men to go kill Leon Trotsky because he hated everything that Trotsky was about. Stalin banished him from the country and “erased” him from Russian history. Snowball and Leon Trotsky both wanted the best for their country, but had political rivals who wanted nothing more than to see them
SNOWBALL! He suddenly roared in a voice of thunder" (47). It was clear that Napoleon wanted to hide the fact that he himself was guilty; however the pigs and him were able to persuade the animals. Next, the pigs convince the animals that their terrible crop season is because of Snowball. “The wheat crop was full of weeds, and Squealer had somehow discovered that on one of his nocturnal visits Snowball has mixed weed seeds with the seed corn."
Furthermore, Napoleon gives the other animals the impression he was the sole leader of the rebellion on Animal farm and makes Snowball -a leader who wanted what was best for the animals- seem like an enemy who was in cahoots with Farmer Jones since long before the animals took over the farm. Napoleon and Squealer (another “fat cat” pig.) always put the blame on Snowball whenever something went wrong in the farm to avoid having the blame fall on them. Napoleon is an exemplary example of just how selfish and hypocritical people can be in furthering their own aims because he continued to subtly but purposely change the seven rules put in place as the pillars of animalism. For example, Napoleon and the other pigs move into Farmer Jones’s house and sleep in his bed after commanding “No animal shall sleep in a bed”, so he changes the commandment to read “no animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets”.
He left after the revolution of the animals that Old Major begin. When he died, they begin the rebellion. When the farm was now for the animals, the pigs took the control of it. Napoleon begin to be in competition with Snowball, because he had a lot of idea, others liked him and he was the pig that decided the most.
Back in history, many leaders are overthrown and killed because corruption of power. Due to the fact, power was not distributed properly to the people they often feel uncomfortable and leads to rebellion. Yet, power corruptions are common these days, it is proven that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely by history and in modern days. In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, Lord Acton’s statement, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” applies to much of the rulers in Animal Farm that show dictatorship and violence.
Napoleon and Snowball have different personalities and. In chapter 2, Napoleon is described as being a fierce-looking Berkshire boar, not much of a talker, but with a reputation for getting his own way. However, Snowball was a more vivacious pig than Napoleon, quicker in speech and more inventive. We can notice that, in the first lines of chapters two, there is already a contrast between the two pigs.
One example was when tension arose between Napoleon and Snowball shortly after he came up with the idea of the windmill. Napoleon became envious of Snowballs gain in popularity and ended up executing him from the farm. Another theme played in the novel is revolution and corruption. Animal Farm depicts a revolution in progress. Old Major gives the animals a new perspective on their situation under Mr. Jones, which leads them to envision a better future free of human
The judgement on leaders differ depending on from whom perspective we see the leader. In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, there are two totally different types of leaders, Snowball and Napoleon. In the end, Napoleon, rather than Snowball, is thought as a leader. Although Napoleon is drawn as a self-centred, tyrannical leader, he is an effective one and has a great impact on animals.
