a. After learning about nutrition and our health, the students will decide if it is true – we are what we eat. Each student will take a stand on whether or not we should be able to eat whatever we want whenever we want. After taking a stand, each student will create a website to inform and persuade others on how to eat by creating various blog posts. Each blog post will have a specific focus in regards to what we should or should not be eating. Besides persuading others to eat a certain way, the students will also include various recipes as well as pictures and graphics to support their stand and help others make the necessary changes possible. After the web page is created, it will be posted to the school nurses web site. Then the students …show more content…
Everyone including themselves, fellow students, as well as the community outside of the school can benefit from taking a closer look at the choices they make in regards to the food that they eat. This task will be motivating and engaging for the students because they are exploring the topic through different sources and are taking that knowledge to create their own opinion in regards to if we should be able to eat what we want when we want. Even though the goal is for students to learn the importance of eating healthy, they still need to find the information and make that decision for themselves. Once they made that decision they are using technology to create a webpage to share their knowledge with others. By giving students a choice on which stand they want to take, the students will be more engaged and willing to defend their side. Having the students write through the form of blog posts is engaging because students today are technology savvy and this assignment will be different from what they are used to. This task is age appropriate because everyone needs to learn to eat healthy and the students will gain their information from age appropriate resources. By using a kid friendly blog page, the students will be using a writing approach that is fun and geared towards their
I chose this two speech’s by Ethan Crabtree and Ben Everett because they were both similar in the topic. They were about the nutrition of the human body and how Aspartame affects the human body. In this paper, I will be comparing and contrasting the way they were delivered, how much knowledge each one the speakers seemed to have about their topic, and there visual aid work such as, handouts, PowerPoints, and or poster boards. And the highlights of each speech. Ethan’s speech was about how a good balanced diet and exercising can be very advantageous to the health of your body.
In the article "Don't Blame the Eater" informs the parents and any fast-food consumers on the dangerous health effects fast-food can cause. Child obesity and type 2 diabetes have increased within the country, a possible factor for this kind of sickness can be tracked to fast-food, David Zinczenko attentively constructs his argument against teenage or child obesity and properly builds support for his position. His argument was achieved by his usage of humor credibility, and forced teaming. Together, these devices complete Zinczeko's mission while he remains considerate of the opposing side. Instead of opening his introduction with a tedious writing based on his future discussion points, he decides to craft his way into introducing his article with a bit of humor.
This shows the impact on how important it is to make a priority in eating and making well balanced meals. Being able to see the history in how eating habits have changed generation to generation gives an insight on what we need to change. Many people such as Mark never ate a fresh vegetable until 19 years old. This shows that there is a big gap in eating balanced and healthy meals because of the mass production of frozen and canned foods. Mark Stated that, “it cut down on the variety of food we ate” (Mark Bittman 2007 Ted Talk, transcript 10:17).
Then, David Zinczenko’s essay “Don’t Blame the Eater” focuses on showing the truth behind labels. Both Pollan and Zinczenko, are writers of essays about food and eating. They support the idea that people need to inform themselves regarding what they consume. If people were to inform
There are 3,418,059,380 women in the world (Geohive.com, 2015) and yet, women, in 2010, got paid a staggering 19% difference in wage on a universal standpoint (Economist, 2011). Such contributing factors as this (wage), has created an overwhelming notion of gender inequality leading to such things as segregation in the workforce across the globe. Ethos is universally known as the ethical appeal, convincing one of a person’s character (Courses.durhamtech.edu, 2015). The staggering numbers of economic contributions of women compared to men has however, highlighted that there are fewer women to men ratios in the workforce due to the where we live, maternal implications (pregnancies), upbringing and education.
Attention: Have anyone of you ever had a situation where you were very hungry and you see someone eating and you get the craving to eat that food? B. Credibility Statement: My dad works at a grocery store, and he tells me that the store buys a lot of same food and their prices are so expensive and some people cannot afford to buy the item. if the item is not sold before the expensive date, then my dad and his co-workers have to throw the item in the trash so basically we wasted the food. Based on this I researches on this topic. C. Thematic Statement: I will inform the class about the different culture foods we have all around the Houston are and how much food we waste per day.
Today’s society is surfaced with various problems, one of them being our diet along with obesity. The health of our country’s people has become a national problem. One’s diet is based upon their choices, but even then there are many controversial views upon what is healthy and what is not. Two essays that I read uniquely present their views on this topic. First, there is “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating” by Mary Maxfield and then there is “Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko.
Finally, students' taste preferences are cited as abarrier to consumption of school meals that adhereto the new
Sarah Wu, who is a mother and an elementary school teacher decided on January 4, 2010 to eat the school lunch every day. She decided to blog about each day she ate the school lunches. Sarah Wu had experienced her students constantly complaining about the school lunches as well as hearing it from her own children. Sarah decided to conduct an experiment of her own to observe what would happen to her if she were to consume the lunch provided to the students for a certain period of time. Her results lead her to the conclusion that the school lunches should not be fed to the growing children.
Corcoran theorizes that “[s]tudents who eat regular, healthy meals are less likely to be tired, are more attentive in class, and retain more information” (4). Furthermore, Anderson assures that “when schools serve calorie-rich food on test day, students perform better on tests.” (4). Anderson’s claims of fact and claims of policy convey a persuasive tone as she finds ways to bolster elementary students’ physical and mental
Though new school lunch organizations provide a healthier, more proficient learning environment, they also promote realms of controversy over student meals. However, these conflicts are futile in comparison to constant concerns over global health issues, including obesity, anorexia, and even
The principal is trying to change school lunch menu's to healthier meals. I strongly believe that this is a good idea to change the lunches because of the following reasons: healthier meals makes kids grow big and strong, it gives you more energy to move around, and it taste delicious. Schools all around should consider changing their lunches for the better of their student. This is for the better of the student to have healthy food. I will go into greater detail in the following paragraphs.
“Today approximately 16% of America 's youth are classified as obese,” in that case, changing one meal a day could prevent as much as 6% of America’s youth from becoming obese. The main issue in the cause to start making school lunch the healthy option of a students day is the undeniable fact; people love debilitating foods. Even when you are an infant in the womb, the one, only thing you crave is sugar. The best
Have you ever wanted a different lunch besides school lunch? Well I have. The subject I will be discussing is students should have off campus lunch. The issue I chose is relevant because some students contact their parents to bring them lunch from home. The purpose or reason why I chose to discuss this topic is because students want a better lunch than school lunch.
’’ Our school menu should also have healthier food options. I think that kids are getting bored of the meals at our school. This is why we should have better and healthier school menus. Our English
