Factory Farming Dangers

Eric Schlosser disproves that theory with his book titled Fast Food Nation (2001). About a hundred years after the mistreatment in the Gilded Age occured Fast Food Nation describes the same if not worse conditions of industries in America. In chapter 8, Schlosser uses rhetorical strategies to unveil the dark side of meat-packing factories. Schlosser begins by explaining what happens to the animals

What makes food organic or natural? People most often use organic and natural as interchangeable words to describe food; however, there is much more to these descriptions than meets the eye. In his essay, 106 Science Claims and a Truckful of Baloney, William Speed, deliberately states what he believes the word natural is in reference to food: only a mystic word used to describe food that is not completely made of synthetic materials. Commonly, organic food is referred to as the better choice, healthier for one’s life, but one cannot take this to heart without executing further research. Of course, whether organic food is reliable or not is not the only question to be asked.

I know a lot of people don 't know how to farm nor do they want to. But a lot of people forget on caring about where and how they got their produce as long as it is on the market for them to feed themselves or their families. What they don 't know is more and more these days the animals are living in horrible factories their whole lives. Which means they aren 't being treated wrong. They are neglected with the proper food and are being drugged with medications like steroids.

Did you know that in factory farms, the majority of chickens, turkeys, and ducks have their beaks removed to prevent cannibalism? What about that egg-laying hens are sometimes starved up to 14 days, exposed to different light patterns, and not given water to shock their bodies into molting? Many people live their lives not knowing of the cruelties that occur in a factory farm. Last year I had an older friend that worked at a factory farm specifically for pigs. One day when I was visiting him, I asked how he liked his job that he had recently gotten hired on to.

Most companies are much more interested in selling their product out faster, thus feeding them corn, so they are able to receive their money as soon as possible. The natural way takes about 3 months, this includes feeding them what they are naturally supposed to eat, letting them run wild in a peaceful environment, and not causing the animals stress.

In fact, the animals are often stored in small cages or spaces with barley any room to move, many will catch a disease from their poor quality of living. Social interaction is crucial because the animals become tired of the same environment, this leads to aggression. To control the aggression, animals are often pumped with drugs. Often, if an animal is sick there will be no veterinary help because of the high cost that is required, as a result, cattle have died from dehydration or other reasons regarding the lack of care. Because the animals are seen as a profit they are bred in a way that is convenient for the slaughterhouse.

Little do consumers know that in that “warehouse” looking building, there might be up to 10,000 animals living on slatted floors with absolutely no grass.(Confined dining: A primer on factory farms and what they mean for your meat) These animals are used for one thing, and one thing only, profit. So if the profit from these CAFOs is so astonishing, then how come factory farming has so many negative attributes correlated to it? These negative attributes are traced

Factory farmed animals have no federal legal protection from horrifying abuses that would otherwise be illegal if they were practiced on dogs or cats: neglect, mutilations, crippling, transport through all weather extremes, and inhumane slaughter. Nevertheless, farmed animals are no less sensitive or capable of feeling pain than dogs or cats, which we cherish as companions. Animals, like humans, are healthiest when they eat certain foods; “Cows, have stomachs that are designed to digest grass. Pigs can digest grass, corn, grains, soy and other plants. Chickens and turkeys can eat plants as well as bugs and worms found on the pasture.”

Local sustainable is one of the four food chains Michael Pollan talks about in his book The Omnivore’s Dilemma. The local sustainable food is grown on small farms. Food from farms like these don’t travel long distances like they would in the industrial or industrial organic food chain. These farms also have diverse crops and animals. Local sustainable is the best food chain to feed all of the people in the United States because it doesn’t harm the environment, animals aren’t mistreated, and crops are naturally raised.

The problem of industrial farming is dangerous to the land to our health because there are children who are getting sick from the food they eat. America should be concerned about food production because they don't know what’s in it and that could be dangerous for the children and everyone else. In the article “When A Crop Is King” by “Michael Pollan” argues that how our food is made out of corn and it’s unhealthy for us.

There are many corn fields in America and the food is getting more popular every year. Notably, In 2019, American farmers planted more corn than any other crop – 69 million football fields' worth, in fact. That's because corn has become one of our most versatile food crops. This proves the importance of corn that is showing up a lot within the average American diet. Farms are money making machines so as long as they are making money the nutrition of the food they grow doesn't really matter in fact, The average american diet does not consist of the healthiest foods in fact, the president is signing farm bills designed to keep the river of cheap corn flowing, guaranteeing that the cheapest calories in the supermarket will continue to be the unhealthiest.

Over one third of U.S corn production goes back to cattle. Not only is this wasting land that could be used to produce food for american citizens, it supports an industry that is incredibly harmful to the environment. Just as the machinery and transportation equipment that is required for meat production, the equipment used to grow crops for cow feed also rely on fossil fuels and thus emit harmless greenhouse

Factory farms are better because they are cheap and meet the demand for meat. The problem is that they have negative effects on human health. They can cause respiratory problems. They also use a lot of antibiotics. This causes antibiotic resistance in humans.
