Psychology is the systematic, scientific study of behaviors and mental processes (Plotnik & Kouyoumdjian, 2014). It focuses on how a person thinks, why they act the way they do, and what they may become in the future. Psychology allows people to better understand how the human brain works and how to deal with others in certain stressful situations. It is used throughout everyday life and is an important factor in scientific studies. Psychology can be extremely important in a wide variety of aspects such as, diagnosing and treating various mental diseases, family and child therapy, and in our education system. Mental Health and Treatment A person’s behavior can be a major contributing factor to the onset of an illness or disease. Smoking, substance abuse, and a person’s diet may be the causes of high-risk for heath related diseases. Psychologists are able to describe, explain, predict, and control a person’s overall behavior; therefore, they are better able to intervene and reduce the risk of serious mental illness. Over time, psychologists have developed specific drugs and medication for those who develop any mental illness, helping them to reduce problem behavior and thinking. Clinical psychologists work with a variety of ages – treating individuals or groups, families, or couples. They counsel adults and children from different ethnicities and backgrounds. A psychologist’s main goal is to help their client overcome problems and disorders through the use of different therapy approaches. As a child, I attended counseling with the background of a broken family. My psychologist assisted me in overcoming the difficulties I faced and helped me with my

Psychology is involved in our everyday lives. The definition of psychology is the study of behavior and mental processes. An example of psychology is talking to new people around you. You talk to each person differently than you do with your family and your close friends. Also, you can learn how to deal with different new situations that we can face.
Mental illnesses have a high prevalence amongst the United States population. Each year, tens of millions of individuals suffer and are affected by mental illnesses (National Institute of Mental Health, 1). These illnesses range from anxiety disorder, eating disorders, major depression, personality disorder, and many more. Yet, with the existing knowledge, mental providers and professionals, and the DSM-5, mental illness remains a growing mystery to the public. Literature has played a significant role in how mental illnesses are defined, their characteristics, and the portrayal of those who are mentally ill to the public eye.
Mental illness has been around since the days of recorded history. People such as Aristotle, Thomas Overbury, and Jean de la Bruyere have studied the personality disorders. However, through history, people with personality disorders have been shunned and feared because of who they are. Mental illness can be obtained by genetics or injury. “Examples of mental illnesses are schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorder, and etc.”
My idea came from watching a documentary on how prisons and jails in Europe have a different approach dealing with inmates when being punished for a crime they did. This place was in Norway, their jails are actually treating their inmates with gratitude. Erwin James (2013) labeled Norway jails inmates “live in conditions that critics brand 'cushy' and 'luxurious'.” These amazing jails have positive results because they have the least reoffenders in the world. The results of my topics should be positive, the reason I say this is because it been tested out in different countries and they had amazing results.
1) Define psychology and trace its historical development. Psychology is the scientific research of the study of the human and animal behavior and mentalities. So in general the study is about how, what and why the human brain functions the way they do. As well as why mental illnesses exist.

In this day and age, with the shift in technology from the 1990s to the present people have witnessed a major shift in power from marketers to customers ( Ferrell, 2014, p. 03). With the advanced technology that we now have today, companies must be able to provide a product that stands out against the rest or otherwise stand the chance of falling into “Commodity Hell” (Ferrell, 2014, p. 02). Netflix has become a pioneer with the global internet streaming business. As a customer in 2015, I have grown to recognize that I have the option to purchase a product or leave that product alone based upon the knowledge that I now have access to on the internet. Netflix provides a digital product that is both unique and of high quality; A major standard
There is a broad spectrum of mental illnesses. Different illnesses correlate with different treatments. For example, Cyntoia Brown’s Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by mood swings, impulsive behavior, and unstable relationships. While medication like antidepressants are often prescribed to treat symptoms associated with Borderline Personality Disorder, psychotherapy is the core treatment to manage it. Borderline Personality Disorder also resembles Bipolar Disorder and is often misdiagnosed in patients.
As mentioned in paragraph 2.1 there are many negatives effects caused by alcohol. These effects can somehow be compared with the negative effects of smoking. In 2002 the prohibition on marketing communications for the tobacco industry was introduced. As I said I think the alcohol industry should undergo the same.
The one most important thing to know about the comparison between mental health and mental illness is that “mental illness does not discriminate; it can affect anyone regardless of your age, gender, income, social status, race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, background or other aspect of cultural identity. While mental illness can occur at any age, three-fourths of all mental illness begins by age 24” (“What is Mental Illness” 5 ). Mental illness can happen to anyone at anytime and it can take any
A historian’s job is to interpret and analyze the past whereas a human scientists goal is to look for ways to alter the future or mold it into something favorable. While looking at history, human sciences and reasoning, one will come to see that historians and human scientists through the dialectic process correlate and also differentiate. The knowledge issues are, how certain is it that human sciences do not look into the past in order to understand the future? As well as how does one know that historians when examining history are not looking into the past to find ways to alter the future? Historians cannot directly look back and observe the past in regard to this, historians have to rely on past evidence and human events in order to gain
Literature has captured my attention, from its ability to directly seize my thoughts and free my imagination. Literature presents worlds beyond our own and continually encourages me to develop and question my thinking. From a young age, I have been a passionate reader, admiring the depth of characters and the variety of emotions that a writer can create. From reading novels, plays and poetry throughout my adult life, I have been drawn to a range of writers and different genres of literature, from historical fiction like Stefan Zweig's 'Beware of Pity', to modern poetry such as Rupi Kaur's 'Milk and Honey'.
Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” (Introduction to Psychology, 2015). Psychology provides an overview of biology and behavior, sensation and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, language, motivation, emotion, abnormal psychology, and therapy (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 1). Because psychology allows for a better understanding of how the mind and body work, this knowledge can be beneficial for any field of study or career. The theoretical and practical understanding of the basics of psychology can help with decision-making, critical thinking, stress management, time management, better understanding of others, improving communication, and even achieving goals and objectives, all components that allow someone to be more successful throughout their life. Throughout this course I hope to gain a greater understanding of historical and theoretical perspectives of human behavior and development (PSY 102 Course Syllabus, 2018, pg 2).
