Eli Whitney was born on December 8,1765 in Westboro, Massachusetts. Ever since he was a young child, Eli had a knack with making objects with his hands. When Eli was a teenager he made a small shop on his dad's farm where he built nails and other essentials that people could not really find in the States. In May 1789, when Eli was twenty-four he entered Yale College. From his classmates view he was middle-aged and old. In college he learned about the new concepts and experiments in science and the applied sciences. Applied sciences was what technology or inventions were called back then. Whitney at the ripe age of twenty-seven graduated from Yale knowing more about inventions and his interests. After graduating Whitney observed the world …show more content…
Now the South could produce from about fifty to one hundred pounds of cotton and export most of it. With the assistance of the Eli’s invention the South grew wealthy from their cotton and made it their number one crop. That was the positive outlook, the negative part was that the North and the South started to have conflict with each other. Because the cotton gin was so successful the South needed more slave to work the machine, and this upset the North. It upset both sides so much that the South backed out from the Union and the Civil War happened. Before the Civil War their were many arguments that went back and forth between the North and South. The main argument though was that the North considered slavery unbiblical, unlawful, an horrible. The South on the other hand though considered their right, because the Constitution stated that a man had a right to his own property and the slaves were their property. The South also attacked the North with the claim that their slaves were better off on the plantations than the workers in the Northerners’ factories where they were harshly treated. Both sides felt like their opinion was better than the others and this was how the Civil War …show more content…
Before Eli Whitney found out that he could make standardized parts for each gun, most people were making each piece specialized. Because they made the parts special for each and every gun this meant that if one gun had problems with a part then they would have to make another special part an disassemble the whole machine. That was just a huge waste of time and resources. Eli took up the task to produce guns for the government and was committed to make ten thousand in four years. With his new tactic he easily made those guns but was not able to deliver his product for ten years. Many people were skeptic about his new way of building things but he passed over that skepticism in 1801, President-elect Thomas Jefferson had promised to see what Eli could do, an Eli in front of the top people of America made a musket from a heap of disabled muskets. His interchangeable parts made him the father of mass
During the Industrial Revolution, many inventions were made like the mill in 1790 when Samuel Slater Brought the textile mill to the U.S. from England. He came by using a false name because England wanted to be the only one with textile mills so the tried to make sure that anyone who had knowledge of the machines could not leave. Samuel Slater found a way to using a false name got to the U.S. and found a capitalist to invest in his idea and the age of the Industrial Revolution began. Other inventors like Eli Whitney made all different types of inventions. Some of his were the Cotton Gin and interchangeable gun parts.
Eli Whitney was an inventor and studied law. His inventions worked out better than his “lawyering”. Eli Whitney liked mechanical work but he also knew it was important to go to school. Eli Whitney was born in Westboro, Massachusetts on December 8, 1765 and he passed away on January 8, 1825 from prostate cancer. Growing up on the farm with his two brothers and one sister, Eli also enjoyed working in his father's workshop( Birking 1) .
it took Eli a few months to make the cotton gin for the south. Eli made a shop with Phineas Miller in connecticut he sold cotton gins. Eli sold cotton gins in North Carolina. He got a patent so nobody else could steal his idea. Because of the cotton gin for the south.
There are several different ways that the industrial revolution transformed the United States of America. There was an abundance of people along the way to help and support the buildup. At the same time, there were other people that did not support the changes and the huge transformation. Before the industrial revolution, many people worked in agriculture. They would make a living working on their farms with family members.
Industrial Revolution interchangeable parts I am writing this essay to educate and talk about interchangeable parts and how they are involved in the Industrial Revolution timeline. The Industrial Revolution first started in great britain, but soon came to the united states in 1790. This revolution was a transfer from rural agricultural working into factories jobs. This caused cities and the population to boom, a step forward to now a day civilization. Through all that happened during the Industrial revolution one of the main parts was new inventions that could replace older or help modernize society in a way.
The North viewed slavery as something that was immoral and the South viewed slavery as being a part of Christianity through the Bible. Here we have two sides that both have their own beliefs and they show the use civil religion when they fight for them. The Civil War may not have been a war of religion, meaning it included God, to some people, but it was a war that had civil religion. Civil religion played a big part in the war because everyone involved was fighting for their
Before the industrial revolution, slaves and women were depended upon as a source of cheap labor to work outside in fields and to make clothes or other textiles respectively. With the help of the Industrial Revolution though, it would not always remain this way. The Industrial Revolution first started in Britain during the eighteenth century. During this time in Britain there were a lots of new inventions circulating that made every day simple tasks simpler and factories became a more common place of work. (Williams.)
It revolutionized the cotton industry by making it more profitable. A machine was now used to remove seeds from cotton rather than having to remove them by hand. This allowed more cotton to be processed quicker which made production of cotton more efficient for farmers. Prior to the invention of the cotton gin, slavery was actually dying out in the southern United States due to how labor intensive the removal of seeds from cotton had become.
He exposed what was unknown to the world. In 1753 he is awarded the Copley Medel equivalent to what is now a Nobel prize for science becoming the most famous American in the world. But that was only the
Most people think Edison invented light bulbs. He actually got the patent from Henry Woodward and Matthew Evans, however their lightbulb didn’t work very well and Edison improved it and sold it. Most of what Edison is credited for inventing was actually invented by his employees. Edison was motivated by money and was more of a business man than a
Later, he also became involved in politics and became one of the founding fathers. Benjamin Franklin made significant impacts on America with his inventions and politics. Besides being one of the Founding Fathers of America, Franklin was well-known for his magnificent inventions. One of Franklin’s most famous inventions is the lighting rod.
In the beginning years after America had finally claimed their independence from Britain, it began the long tremendous journey of American Ingenuity. From this there was the production of many essential inventions to society, that would leave an impact on the world for the rest of time. Some inventions that produced this impact was the telegraph, airplanes and the power looms. One of the most notable inventors of this time period was Eli Whitney who created three inventions that left a tremendous influence on the agriculture and American progress. Eli Whitney was originally born in Westborough, Massachusetts a few years before America gained their independence.
Begun in England in the early second half of the 1700s, the Industrial Revolution did not reach America till the late 18th century. This revolution brought about a great many changes in American Society. The surge of new ideas, techniques and technologies that was the Industrial Revolution had a great impact on America, not only economically, as one would typically expect, but also socially, politically, and morally. The bringing of the textile mill to America by Samuel Slater was one event that had a great impact on many aspects of American society.
Another major factor that led to the Civil war was the social status and views at the time. The North and South had very different social views. In the North, while a good amount of the people owned slaves, many of them began to see it as wrong and inhumane. They also began to believe that they no longer needed slaves to do work for them and that the slaves should have freedom, as well as their own rights. But even with the North beginning to want to change things, slaves were still not treated like human beings most of the time.
Slavery involves a lot of factors as to why it exists, it exists because mankind is greedy and is out for money and if that means that you have to put others down then that will happen. Different opinions on this matter exist and whether they are right or wrong is not in my hands. The difference in education, fear and economy between the North and South will be involved in the topic. However the resistance to the anti-slavery campaign, led by Lincoln, is one that was not because of an ideological opposition but rather an economic ploy. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “America has a free government where every man has a right to be equal with every other man”, but that was not the case before the Civil War.
