George Washington was indispensable in launching the U.S government. Although many opposed his political views at the time, Washington's leadership capabilities were unquestionable after his victory in the American Revolution. Our victory over Great Britain would have been doubtful if not for Washington and his judgement. Before becoming president, Washington led in drafting the Constitution, which is the foundation of America. When he became president, Washington believed in unity and a strong central power. He established a federal government, a national bank, a national university, a national military academy, and a unifying capital city. His choice to not have overly powerful state governments was wise because an excessively strong state government would lead to individualism and would disintegrate the American union. Although he was only trained for small frontier wars with a small number of troops, he had enough courage, determination, and intelligence to defy all odds and defeat Britain. After his great victory, Washington gave up command of the Colonial Army and returned to Mount Vernon with intentions to resume his old life as a farmer. However, in 1787, he was asked to attend the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia and help draft the new constitution. He impressed all the delegates with his leadership and wisdom, convincing most of them that he was the most qualified person to become America’s first president. He lost and Thomas Jefferson became president. In 1804, he was nominated to be a Federalist candidate in the presidential election of Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was popular at the time for the famous Louisiana Purchase, so, Charles had a very slim chance of being elected. He refused to lose hope and went through with staying up for election throughout the whole voting period. Unfortunately, Charles lost the election and Jefferson was reelected to office.
Washington prevented the Whiskey Rebellion from getting out of hand by organizing a militia force to scare the rebels. He also ended his presidency after his second term, setting a new precedent. This evidence addresses how Washington basically created the base of what the US represented. He created a economic department, a foreign department, a defense department, a chief lawyer, and a Chief Justice that all acted in unison to create a stable country. Washington also prevented conflict without mass deaths.

When the country called upon him, unanimously electing him to the presidency, he stated: ”’ My movements to the chair of government, will be accompanied by feelings not unlike those of a culprit, who is going to the place of his execution, embarking the voice of the people, and a good name of my own, on this voyage; but what returns will be made for them, Heaven alone can foretell’" (Ibid., XI, 379-80). Although he didn’t want to lead this country, Washington understood the country needed a strong leader, like him. Given his military background, he wanted to unify the country under one strong leader.

To illustrate, George was only put in charge of the continental army because he was a candidate from Virginia and since Virginia had such a large population he was voted on to please the south. George Washington had little background in leading an army there was not much was expected him, it was not a huge shocker when the Americans were losing at the beginning of the war. George Washington realized part way through the war that he was not only losing the war but his soldiers, so he turned things around everyone began looked at him differently. The patriots were winning battles like the battle of Trenton, Saratoga, and Yorktown. Everyone was looking at him as a massive hero.
On April 30, 1789, George Washington took office as the First President of the United States with hopes of expanding upon the nation’s principles. He immediately assumed his responsibilities and built the nation to become the fantastic country it is today. At the end of his presidency, feelings of despondency and dejection filled the country, for humble Washington shaped the role and function as the leader of America. Based on his presidency alone, Washington influenced the lives of many, as all citizens looked up to him as an inspiration. Initially, he set precedents for future presidents to follow, keeping the nation civilized for years and years.
The delegates also created the Virginia and New Jersey plan, The Great Compromise, The Judiciary, Checks and Balances, Fear of Pure Democracy, The Three-Fifths Clause, and finally the Legacy of the Constitution. James Madison has helped develop Virginia’s Constitution 11 years earlier, and It was his Virginia Plan that served as the basis for debate in the development of the U.S. Constitution. George Washington was the first statesmen to realizes the flaws in the government. His experience in the Revolutionary War convinced him that extreme concerns for states’ rights and state sovereignty. On May 25, 1787, the convention opened, and Washington was elected president of the convention.

When Washington became commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, he proved to be a better general than any military strategist. He was able to keep his poorly trained, malnutritious, and less equipped soldiers intact. He was a major key factor in winning the war against Britain and keeping American morale alive when there was no hope left. However, by the end of the war, Washington surrendered his title as General of the Continental Army; allowing civilian control of the military. George Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention which tried to do a peaceful overthrow of the pristine American government.
Washington knew a strong Constitution had to be in place, which is why he was responsible for the Constitutional Convention. The effects of his inaugural address and presidency really mattered, given he was the first of our many presidents. George Washington proved he truly cared for the American people and the country. He took charge and changed what had to be done, because his speech altered the government and society as we know it today; our Constitution, our executive and judicial branches, and our Supreme Court. While he did emphasize the need for a Constitution, he was not the only one responsible for it’s making.
During the Revolutionary Era, there were many people that impacted and changed the world for Americans today. One main person who impacted us today was George Washington. He built the structure of the United States Government today, and made laws to ensure people’s freedoms, and rights. George Washington was the first president of the United states and he fought for a stronger unity for the people then and that still impacts today. He believed that the country had great potential but they need to get over their differences in order to come together.
George Washington was a man of recognition of the importance of differing opinions. By associating himself with both Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton he led the people to see that he did not side just with one idea for the sake of his own personal beliefs. From the beginning of his presidency and through the end, George Washington continued to instill faith in the people of the nation to see that not only would the country thrive, but it would soon be the best nation the world would know. George Washington left a legacy of greatness upon his audience of his century and those who look back today and see his face not only on Mt. Out of the three that are listed here I think that his part in the American Revolution was the most important. Without him we wouldn’t have a leader, nor would we have continued to fight on. This was the first step to our new nation and without him we would have given up/still be under British rule. People like Washington have given people a voice and has motivated them throughout the years. He had kept our hopes up whenever we felt the need to give up and because of his role/actions we are our own
