“In war there are no unwounded soldiers” (Jose Narosky). Prior to World War I, alliances were formed, which were groups/ countries formed to keep peace among the Great Powers in Europe. The first alliance, the Triple Alliance was a military alliance between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. The second alliance, the Triple Entente was another military alliance between Great Britain, France, and Russia. Having rival alliances in Europe, confrontation between both alliances had started to occur. “Military is a policy of glorifying military power and keeping a standing army, always prepared for war” (Chapter 13 Section 1). Soon almost all of Europe had joined the largest, most catastrophic war in the world. The underlying cause of World War …show more content…
The Triple Entente banded together and all blamed Germany for starting the war. According to Document B, France, Great Britain, and Russia were all pointing the finger at Germany, blaming them for starting the war. Due to the alliance's, most of the European countries became involved, not just Austria and Serbia. As stated by Document B, Germany was standing in front of Austria trying to help defend them, however, that then gave the other European countries another reason to accuse Germany for the start of World War I. Each alliance managed to stay together with defending each other throughout the massive …show more content…
However, according to Document C, by the year of World War I, Germany had spent 90 million pounds on building up their army. The amount of money spent on building up their army had many European countries worried and concerned. Germany’s army isn’t the only thing that they started to mysteriously build up on. In Document C, Germany started expanding on their navy in the 1910’s, leaving Great Britain feeling suspicious. Believe it or not, Great Britain's suspicion that something fishy was going to occur, Germany began to sink ships in the British waters. Although some may argue that alliance’s were the underlying cause of World War I there’s some that may beg the differ. Either way they try to argue it Germany was in control of each underlying cause. Having alliance’s Germany wanted to defend its partnering country, however the opposing alliance put the blame on Germany for starting the war. Strangely Germany began building up their army and navy prior to the start of war, leaving the other countries left with limited time to build up and prepare their army and navy for the unexpected. All in all Germany was involved in all of the underlying causes of World War
The underlying causes of the World War I were militarism, nationalism, and imperialism. Militarism, the glorification of the military, was one of the major causes of World war I. People thought that the military was important to civilians and should be respected and glorified. It was an arms race. The more one nation built its militaries, the more the other nations felt that they had to do the same. According to the graph The Growth in Armaments, Germany had one of the greatest armament increases.
Prior World War I Europe had a long term of peace with in the countries. Lots of imperialism was happening at the time. Most of the European countries had colonies around the world. Although most of the countries were threatened by each other due to the amount of colonies each country had. In attempts to show their superiority over its surrounding countries Germany decided to build up their army, causing the surrounding counties to mimic Germany's actions The European countries where frighten by each other leading to the creation of alliances more specifically the Triple Alliance consisting of Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary and the Triple Entente containing Russia, France, and Great Britain.
Militarism, the glorification of the military, affected most of Europe at the turn of the twentieth century as demonstrated by Documents 1 and 7. Military spending in three of the major powers in Europe, Great Britain, France, and Germany, more than doubled per capita from 1870 to 1914, according to Document 1. Great Britian and Germany in particular were involved in an arms race with each other. Germany attempted to build a navy to rival Great Britian’s, whose navy was considered the best in the world at the time, and Great Britian responded by improving on their own navy. In the rest of Europe, countries were building up their stores of weapons, including rifles, bombs, and artillery, causing international
For example, Austria-Hungary had an alliance with Germany, although, Germany could have had other alliances with different countries, without Austria-Hungary knowing.
During World War 1, there were multiple alliances. Alliances showed your trust with other countries. There was The Triple Alliance that included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. There was The Triple Entente that included France, Russia, and Great Britain. These were the two most powerful and strong alliances in the Great War.
WWI was one of the most influential wars on the world's history, it made and broke many of the countries that exist today. There were many unspoken causes that led up to WWI, the first one being Militarism. Another reason for war might have been the Alliances shared at that time between countries. Lastly, Imperialism was a big issue and could have impacted decisions for war. By far, Germany was prepared the most for war and had the money and resources to back it up.
Large alliances formed, such as the triple entre (France, the UK, and Russia) and the central powers (Austria-Hungary, German Empire, and Italy) The alliances gave military support to each member, but would also drag all the countries in one alliance to war if war was only declared on one nation (http://europeanhistory.about.com/od/worldwar1/a/World-War-One-The-Major-Alliances.htm). During the July crisis, the Austria-Hungarian empire asked if Germany would help them in the war against Serbia. Germany replied back and said they’d give them full support. Austria started to mobilize their army against Serbia, and since Russia was allied with Serbia.
One more cause of World War I would be alliances. The alliances made multiple countries who shouldn't be involved in the war join the war, and eventually World War I Began. World War I was justified because they fought for a cause. They fought to protect, and help their allied nations from harm. World War
It’s 1939, Hitler has risen to power wreaking havoc on other countries. This is the start of what is known as WWII. Taking a few steps back is WWI. It all started in 1914 and ended in 1918, this is commonly referred to as the “Great War”. This war dealt with the Triple Alliance, the Triple Entente, the Central Powers, and the Allies.
Within the next couple weeks, every major country in Europe was pitted against one another leading to two major sides of the Great War; The Triple Entente which consisted of Britain, France, Russia, and later the United States; The other side called the Triple Alliance which united Germany, Austria- Hungary, and Italy. This was the start of World War 1and peace among all was officially
Militarism is the policy in which a country glorifies its military power by having an army prepared at any time. This militarism also came from nationalism, or extreme patriotism, within countries. According to document C, a graph adapted from The London Times History of The World, shows the amount of money (pounds) that went towards the production of armaments from 1890 to the start of the war (1914). It also shows how the armaments increase among the navy and army within certain countries that were involved in the start of the war. Every country was recorded to have an increase in currency that fueled the production of weaponry.
Militarism was a huge factor as to why the war was caused, as too many other reasons including Imperialism and Allies. The war was caused because of the distrust and accusations made by one nation to another. Militarism is the belief of keeping a strong military. Each nation would spend millions on weapons and keeping their military strong. Document C ‘‘Growth in Armaments, 1890-1914’’, states that nations including Great Britain, Austria-Hungary and many more spent millions on developing their armies, Great Britain being the nation that spent the most.
Britain had a large and powerful navy. Germany wanted to have the same thing too, or even bigger and better. All the countries felt like they had to build up their militaries to keep up with everyone else. Not just one of the four causes takes the blame for starting WWI. All of these things: imperialism, nationalism, alliances, and militarism combined to make a large war, involving many countries, which took several years to
Alliances are allies created amongst countries to support each other. Some examples of alliances during the Great War were the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The Triple Entente was an association between Britain, France, and Russia, they were also the brains of the Allied Powers during World War 1 (David G. Haglund, ND). The Triple Entente came together in 1907 to counter the threat caused by the Triple Alliance (Study.com, 2003). The Triple Alliance was an alliance consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy, they were part of the Central Powers as well.
