Roger Williams, once a prominent member of the Puritans in Massachusetts, and the other Puritan leaders acted very differently towards the Indians. He became a confirmed Separatist. He came up with the idea of separation of church and state. He also believed the Indians had rights, as they were the original inhabitants of the land.

During the early to mid 1800s, the colonization of “Indians” and subordination of “women’s rights in the American society,” was very essential to those in authority. They were perceived as a mere means to an end by promises of a better life in exchange for “land and work.” Although locals complied, those in offices took advantage by using antagonistic tactics in achieving wealth, power, and ownership. However, these actions lead to “The First Seminole War, The Monroe Doctrine, Andrew Jackson’s leadership, The Indian Removal Act, The California Gold Rush, The Seneca Falls Convention, and the Birth of the Republican Party.” Although some Americans have been perceived as heroes, their actions have said otherwise about their character.

Manifest Destiny was the 19th-century doctrine or belief that the expansion of the US throughout the American continents was both justified and inevitable. Of course there were already Native Americans living in the area. The new people in the U.S. wanted to push the Native Americans out and make room for their new settlements. Not all of the Native Americans were very happy about being pushed out of their homes. The Native Americans were affected greatly by Manifest Destiny.

Hello Diary, I am Helen Hunt Jackson's 1879, I went to Boston, I attended a meeting for representatives of the Ponca and Omaha Indian tribes .The Ponca and Omaha Indian tribes are getting treated unfairly. The Ponca and Omaha Indian are trying to get over the confiscation of their tribal lands by the token by the U.S. government. I have to work out some plans and write what I am going to do to help them. I understand how much they are losing and some of them are starving and haven’t slept, and have children.

Believe it or not, the Sioux Nation still suffers from many problems. The teen suicide rate is by 150%. The Sioux Nation does not have health insurance, good education, etc. The Sioux Nation is unable to live a happy, healthy, long, life. There are two major conflicts in Saga of The Sioux.

Sarah Winnemucca was from a Paiute tribe. Her grandfather was the leader of here Indian tribe she wrote an autobiography. Sarah Winnemucca was women that her belief where Christian faith she wrote about her life experience. The name of her book was “life among the Piutes”. She was place and Native American literary activist traditions.

The Credit Mobilier scandal occurred in 1872 to 1873 and destroyed many careers of several politicians. Stockholders formed a railroad company, and the Credit Mobilier. They built railroads and sold the shares and even gave them away to congress man, to insure they wouldn’t be shut down or voted against. They also gave cash bribes to congress men to be more confident in not being shut down. During this time Ulysses Grant was in office and this was was of his major events during his presidency.

The Cherokee women wrote a petition urging their men to work against the removal. They make note of how they never believed in hostility with the white settlers. It is of their belief that they need to keep the land for the prosperity of their children and their existence as a whole. (197-198). The Cherokee women also remark how they and many other Native Americans have given up substantial amounts of their land, that this is their country by natural right.

The Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma is a confederation tribe that has been relocated several times, was affected significantly by the Civil War, and has overcome many adversities. The Peoria Tribe’s original language was Algonquian due to it’s pre-columbian ancestors, which is no longer used. The small amount of the tribe that lives in Oklahoma speak Cahokia, Moingwea, and Tamaroa. The name “Peoria” comes from French woodsmen and means, “he comes carrying a pack on his back”. The tribe adopted the religion of Christianity, specifically Roman Catholicism, and the traditional tribal religions.

In Life Among the Piutes, sarah winnemucca hopkins describes what happens when soldiers came to their reservation based off what white settlers tell the government. The most shocking instance of this happened when Winnemucca encountered a group of soldier who told her the white settlers accused the natives of stealing cattle, “the soldiers rode up to their [meaning the Piute’s] encampment and fired into it, and killed almost all the people that were there… after the soldiers had killed but all bur some little children and babies… the soldiers took them too… and set the camp on fire and threw them into the flames to see them burned alive”(78). This is an abhorrent act that is unthinkable in a functioning society. The natives had done nothing but want to hold some shred of land from the settlers who had taken everything from them and are exterminated like vermin. This was something that stayed hidden from many white settlers because of its barbarism and by exposing it Winnemucca truly educates the reader, past and present, on how natives are

Throughout the 19th century Native Americans were treated far less than respectful by the United States’ government. This was the time when the United States wanted to expand and grow rapidly as a land, and to achieve this goal, the Native Americans were “pushed” westward. It was a memorable and tricky time in the Natives’ history, and the US government made many treatments with the Native Americans, making big changes on the Indian nation. Native Americans wanted to live peacefully with the white men, but the result of treatments and agreements was not quite peaceful. This precedent of mistreatment of minorities began with Andrew Jackson’s indian removal policies to the tribes of Oklahoma (specifically the Cherokee indians) in 1829 because of the lack of respect given to the indians during the removal laws.
