Bees aren’t only essential in the pollination of around 250,000 plants, but In 2015-2016 44.1% was the annual loss of bees in US managed bee colonies surpassing the acceptable amount by 27% (Bee Informed). Worker bees are more than just workers for their hive, they are also workers for us $15 billion was contributed to the nation 's economy by these bees ( Bee Informed). You wouldn’t want to have around 1-2 thirds of our food that requires pollination to disappear, would you?

Within the novel “The Secret Life of Bees” written by Sue Monk Kidd, the reader enters a journey exploring the hardships of the time period, as well as the power and the strength of women. The story, set in the Deep South during the 1960’s illustrates the struggle of Lily Owens, a fourteen year old girl with her parents and developing society. On a quest to unlock the truth and more information about her mother, Lily takes up residence with three African-American sisters where she is taught and encounters unfamiliar experiences that she would have never believed possible. Over the course of the novel, Kidd details the altering and dynamic relationship between Lily and her parents. Although minimal change occurs involving Lily’s abusive father,

Every day millions of honey bees fly back and forth from their hives. They pollinate a plethora of flowers and produce great amounts of honey. Many people do not realize what bees do for them and their communities. Without bees, people would not have any fresh flowers or produce. The bee population helps provide growth to one-third of the food in the world (Haltiwanger).

Throughout the duration of Sue Monk Kidd’s The Secret LIfe of Bees, the characters of her novel undergo various difficulties. The novel revolves around Lily as she learns about her past and tries to discover more about her long-dead mother. Additionally, the novel features extensive character interaction as Lily and her companion Rosaleen take residence at a farm in Tiburon, South Carolina, and meet three sisters: May, June, and August.

The four texts I have chosen are Crips and Bloods: Made in America directed by Stacy Peralta, The Secret Life of Bees written by Sue Monk Kidd, The Help directed by Tate Taylor and Selma directed by Ava DuVernay. These texts all have the theme of segregation of black and white people in America. Segregation in America in the 1960s was a very large issue at this time, yet is still a part of our society today. A significant connection that unites the two texts Crips and Bloods and The Secret Life of Bees is the theme of segregation of black and white people.

The setting of a story can vastly affect a story. A horror story is a lot different if it’s set on a park instead of a old haunted house. The Secret life of Bees is set in South Carolina during 1964.In 1964 the civil rights movemant was slowly winding down as African Americans got rights but the tensions where still there. In The Secret Life of Bees the setting has a huge effect on the plot because Zach gets captured because he is with lily, May commits suicide becuase he is always so sad from all the african americans geting killed and hurt, and lily and rosaline run away because they don 't want to get hurt.

The Secret life of Bees, By: Sue Monk Kidd. This book is a tale of one girl and her troubled past, as she discovers the truth and the lies of her childhood, and the true meaning of family. Lily Owens has longed for a mother her whole life. living with her abusive father and her overpowered caretaker, Rosaleen. Her father T. Ray an arrogant peach farmer is a bitter and ruthless man who will stop at nothing to make sure that he is feared and respected.

To be completely honest, I was hesitant to start this book due to its theme of racism and how as a black woman, it made me slightly uncomfortable to think of this topic by free will. Incidentally, I’m more than glad to have seen past that aspect because, in the end, I was able to read a timeless classic. The Secret Life of Bees brings delightful characters to life, by giving each their own memorable and lovable personality to bring to the table. My favourite character by far was August, the eldest of the trio of sisters. Her calm and gentle demeanor allows the people around her to open up, like how sunflowers bloom as soon as sunlight is in sight.

Another primate residence pattern is multi-male multi-female where there is low competition. There is also all-male groups that exist. In a monogamous society, one male is in a relationship with another female, exclusively. Then there’s the solitary residence pattern when males and females interact only for reproductive purposes. In the social groupings with a stronger male presence there would be more food availability since males are the hunters and gatherers, in the social groupings where there was a stronger female presence there would be more reproduction of offspring since females are the ones that reproduce.

A few months ago, I learn that south of where I live millions of honeybees have been killed because of acute pesticide poisoning in South Carolina to get rid of Zika mosquitoes. The bees cannot speak for themselves. At Wesak, when big energy is coming to our world, I concentrate the Christ/Buddha energy on Nature, and this includes the bees. I also concentrate on the birds.

Such as when beekeeping started, the difference between hobbyist and commercial beekeepers. There are also different types of bees, different types of honey and different uses of honey. Most people are perfectly fine never encountering a bee or knowing anything about them.

The effect of economy is clear and significant to the story. The dominant social class, which are the white males, are shown to have more power. During this time period, white men were typically supported by the black community, such as people like Rosaleen, a black servant on Terrence Owen’s (Or T-Ray) Peach Farm and the caretaker of Lily Owens (T-Ray’s daughter). Rosaleen was one of many whom, “Worked as one of his pickers,” (2), and without the many laborers like Rosaleen, none of the work would have gotten done on the peach farm.

It is spring and you feel a warm spray of sunshine on your back as an insect buzzes by your ear and floats through the air and is lost in the swarm of other bees as it drifts toward the hive. This brings up the question that you have been wondering. What goes on inside a beehive? What do bees do for there job?

Wow this is one of the biggest bee hives I have ever seen it must have at least 50,000 bees in it! I have to look more closely but first I have to put on my bee keeper suit just to bee safe. I look through my bag of mateirals pushing aside my notebook, camara and a book about honey bees and at the very bottom of my bag I found my suit. I slid it on and was ready to see the home of a honey bee . This is so cool!
