Human trafficking in Houston is growing at a high rate year after year. The persons that is being trafficked around is telling a lie stating a better life and more money, but that isn’t the case. Women get tricked into being a sex slave and this leads to mental and physical abuse, as well as health infections all because of promises for a better life for her family. Due to this Houston has become a number two place for human trafficking. Houston is a hot spot for traffickers to find their next victim to add to the list of women they have taken away from home and force them to work. The mental abuse that women receive is just terrible to know that you might die at any time. Being used for only sex is what the victim feels like the only thing she is useful for. In her mind all the person can do is thinking to themselves that life is horrible and not worth living and start to slip into a state of depression. While in that state of depression the women feel like there is no one to help them, and there are right. For example, a woman named Kamchana had a bad mental case because …show more content…
The women that are being trafficked around from state to state have to have sex the way the customer wants it even if it means unprotected. Men don’t care for the women that they are having relations with so they force them to have sex knowing that they might or might not have any kind of infection. “Gita contracted HIV as a direct result of her status as a victim of sex trafficking. She, also, unknowingly and unintentionally, may have spread HIV to customers who bought her after she became infected”, (Kloer 2). This is a clear fact showing that the people who commits these acts are people who only care about putting money in their pocket failing to realize that those girls can die from this. The human trafficking seen is helping spread diseases like HIV/AIDS as well as infections such as
Human trafficking is an issue that impacts virtually every nation. As the number of reported incidents of sex trafficking rises in Tennessee, something
Thesis Statement A. What I hope to aim for my audience is too see what these young girls went through and how they are lured into this not willing wanting to go. I went through and listen to lots of stories of woman who were taken when younger and how they were enslaved by these men who mentally controlled their thoughts. When I read about poor stories from overseas how parents where so desperate for money they sell their children it was heartbreaking, but those two young ladies today Keiu and Sara are now working with a group home building a future and hoping to help other victims. The purpose to give the audience a better understanding what human trafficking is and how it’s going on in our neighborhoods.
These highways make Oklahoma the perfect avenue for human trafficking. Because of these highways, new cases of this epidemic emerge in Oklahoma every day. For example, in June of 2015, five residents of Oklahoma
Are we doing enough to prevent human trafficking in the local area? Almost 300,000 people every year are forced into the sex trafficking trade system. Most of all the people forced into the trade system are girls between the age of 12-18. These people are being imprisoned for usage of their body, for the joy of others with the highest price.
The first couple of days they are treated very well, but after the women get comfortable they start the break in process, which is usually around two weeks of torture. After the break in process things get better, but they still live is harsh unimaginable conditions (Sex Trafficking 2018). Violence. The ABT Association did a study in the United States, that shows 73% of prostituted women have been raped while providing commercial sex, 59% of them victims have been raped five or more times (Hunt et al., 2012). Violence is a very common occurrence in the sex industry and can lead to death.
With this being said, it is clear that women and young girls are typically the most at risk when it comes to commercial sexual exploitation. In this category of trafficking, traffickers act as “pimps” and sell these women like prostitutes. These victims are made to perform sexual favors to make their captor or captors a profit. Most of these crimes go unseen and
Infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, malaria, and pneumonia may be more prevalent among sex trafficking victims as a result of unsanitary and dangerous housing conditions, use of needles, and inadequate access to health care. In addition to the physical torture , the victims face moderate to severe psychological trauma from daily mental, emotional, and psychological abuse and torture. They experience feelings of helplessness, shame, humiliation, distrust, self-hatred, disbelief, denial, suicidal thoughts, disorientation, confusion, phobias , post-traumatic stress disorder which develops when someone encounters a scary or dangerous event ' and with that, anxiety, depression and insomnia. Many victims turn to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain and their feelings.
Human trafficking produces billions of dollars in profit every year, it is right behind drug trafficking as the most lucrative form of crime throughout the world. (DHS website). Victims of human trafficking rarely come forward due to the threats of murder, threats of killing their loved ones/friends, as well as having nowhere else to go because they have been ostracized from their own family and their “pimp” is their family. Another issue of why victims do not come forward is that they are afraid of law enforcement so they may go to jail, etc. (DHS website)

Houston is a Main hub when it comes to Human trafficking being that it is a big city with both I-10 and the ports makes it a popular destination to allow entry of international human trafficking. In this book, author Siddharth Kara investigates the dynamics of the global sex trade industry in attempts to address key impediments in establishing effective global response to eradicate it (Kara, p. 24). The central argument of this book is that the flagrancy and universality of sex trafficking can be understood as the result of colossal profits associated with selling sex inexpensively and globally (Kara, p. 24). Throughout this book the author provides an account of his journey into the world of sex trafficking by sharing the stories of victims, testimonies of participants and industry leaders, and further, illustrating a background of the financial, economic, and legal circumstances surrounding the industry. Kara provides an analysis
Human trafficking can affect any person, anywhere at any time, yet leaves multiple groups at higher risk for human trafficking. Runaway/homeless youth, LGBT members, migrant workers, undocumented immigrants, racial/ethnic minorities, those who struggle with substance abuse, and others all tend to be at higher risk for becoming victims of human trafficking. In order for human trafficking to be classified as a crime it must fit the three elements of human trafficking. These three elements fall under Act, Means, and Purpose. Act explains what is happening, in this stage people are recruited, taken, possibly moved to another location, and received by other traffickers or those who wish to exploit them.
Some experts consider that in this case decriminalization is the best strategy, but it should be an advantage for women, who, no matter which way you look at it, are entitled to exploit their own bodies as they want. However, they also claim that pims, customers and other people involved must be punished, as only such kind of strategy can restrain the growth of demand and supply in sex industry. Another negative aspect of legalization of prostitution is that it can promote sex trafficking. The example of Netherlands show that 80% of women were trafficked from other countries, and most of them were from poor countries of Eastern Europe (Raymond, Janice G.).
Those trafficked at younger ages and having spent a longer time in brothels was slightly more likely to become infected with the HIV virus. These findings demonstrate the need for increased attention to HIV among young victims of sex trafficking in research and practice. It is difficult to determine the absolute rates of HIV infection among trafficked persons and little research has been done to determine whether these rates are higher than those of non-trafficked prostituted women or than those in the general
Human trafficking, or trafficking in persons (TIP) or modern day slavery, is a heinous and widespread crime occurring around the world in nearly every society. Most people often thought slavery was part of the past; however, human slavery is part of our current society and has been an on-going issue around the world. Human trafficking is a type of slavery that involves forced or bonded labour, sexual servitude, child labour, or involuntary servitude all over the world. It is important to note that sex trafficking contributes to more than half of human trafficking and most of these victims are women and young girls. This modern day slavery can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at anytime (Ton, 2012).This literature review of documents and reports
This sort of sexual exploitation in the form of human trading, is bring notoriety to its name and a lot of countries consider Pakistan as one of the major trafficker and blame it as a reason for this ghastly crime accompanying other countries and even United States Department of state recently raised a finger at Pakistan for being a base area of this deplorable business. Poverty is the leading cause of this slavery, and it’s evident that poverty leads to uneducation resulting in increased unemployment giving rise to such trafficking cases in society. Besides human trafficking is one of those serious crimes which is globally considered as the major cause of a fact that majority of the people carrying HIV/AIDS virus are women. Many women and children are unaware of risks associated when they intentionally opt for selling their bodies.
