These changes made life easier and overall better than before. The period of rapid industrial growth during the 1800s and into the early 1900s was more helpful than harmful because new transportation, safer and more jobs and more inventions were created. The industrial growth that occurred in the early 1800’s to the early 1900’s was helpful because more railroads were made which made trade happen faster. In the article Industrial Changes: Helpful or Harmful? There is a graph showing how many factory workers there were in this industrial period. The graph shows that in 1860, there were 1.3 million workers working in the factories. But by 1900, there were approximately 5.11 million workers in factories. This graph shows that so many people are getting the opportunity to live better lives. More and more people started getting jobs and making money so they can afford more things. After these new jobs, much more people could afford food and fresh water instead of nothing. Jobs at this time could be very dangerous along with the factories themselves, so that’s why reforms were made in order to make working conditions better and safer. Theodore Roosevelt said, “ The development of industrialism means that there must be an increase in the supervision exercised by the Government over business enterprise.” when industrialism grows, so do more laws. Laws were enforced and inspections were necessary. They enforced laws about factories and how factories have to have a certain amount of fire exits, certain size fire exits, etc. These were enforced because they didn’t want to endanger the lives of the factories workers. By making these laws, there will never be anymore factory tragedies. At this time, there were many monopolies such as Rockefeller in the Oil industry and Carnagie in the steel …show more content…
There were inventions in this time period that totally changed trade, travel time, communication and efficiency in the factories. Take the steam engine for example; in the article it says, “ The steam engine also revolutionized transportation, leading to ships propelled by steam power, which allowed for more reliable travel on the ocean… The steam engine was also the power source for trains… The result of this invention was an economy that boomed.” The invention of the steam engine total changed everything. Stronger boats and more railroads were made with them. People could travel cross-country much more efficiently. Also, with the new, strong ships, you could assure a safe cruze across the big waves of the 7 seas. The steam engine was just one of the many helpful inventions in this time period. There were many more inventions such as the telegraph. In the article, The Second Industrial Revolution, it said, “ The telegraph transmitted electrical signals that could be decoded into messages.” The telegraph total changed the world. Businesses could notify the other branches of their company in seconds. It might take awhile decode, but it’s still much more efficient. Trade could happen even faster, because they didn’t have to meet in person, they could communicate over the telegraph. Also, the telegraph influence a similar inventions known as the telephone. This was even more efficient because you didn’t have to decode a
The telegraph used electricity to send coded messages over wires. Technology improvements in printing made images cheaper and better, and also it reduced the cost of publishing, leading to rapid increase in the number of newspapers, magazines, and
The conclusion of the eighteenth century and the dawn of the nineteenth was a time of great growth of industry in America. There were many positives of this growth, and many negatives. One positive were that everybody has more luxuries; another positive was that a lot of money came into the US. There were many severe negatives of the new growth of industry. Two of these were horrible factory conditions, and child labor.
All these improvements in technology like canals and new roads altered the physical landscape in America for the better but also the economy (The Market Revolution: Crash Course U.S. History #12,
The American Industrialization was in the late 1800’s making many things to improve the economy. The American Industrialization was caused by multiple factors, some of the factors included a growing population, a willing work force, high tariffs, among many more. These effects made people willing to work at lower wages so they can get jobs and buy American made goods. There were many outcomes of the Industrial Revolution, both positive, like improving people's lives, and negative effects, like exploitation of workers. The positive effects of American Industrialization is how it make work cheaper, employed thousands of workers, and improving people’s lives.
Between 1865 and 1900, Industrialization changed the way America continued about advancing. It brought about industries such as the railroads, steel and oil that generated jobs and opportunities, as well as economic wealth. Although these times were great for some - mainly the millionaires gaining fortune from their businesses and poor immigrants who found better lives in America than there were in their home countries - others, like the farmers and industrial workers, found a hard time making a living in the new, fast paced America. Farmers and industrial workers responded to the cruelness of industrialization by politically, financially, and socially.
The late 1800s marked the start of the Industrial Revolution for the United States. Prior to the rapid industrialization, people lived in rural communities and manufacturing was done largely by local craftsmen. After the Civil War, certain needs were emphasized such as the need for faster production, transportation, and better communication. All of these needs were met by the Industrial Revolution due to technological advancements. These advancements had great effects on the structure of cities at the time.
The Industrial Revolution was a very big part of our History. It brought lots of new inventions and products that society had never thought could be possible. The Industrial Revolution also brought in new medicine and medical equipment allowing people to live longer lives. Before the advancement in medicine if a person was in a coma then they were thought dead, and usually buried alive.
It allowed people to start making textiles more efficiently. Plus, with the mass production that came, more workers were needed, which led to increased employment. It also led to increased transportation. Being able to transport items more quickly and efficiently helped boost the economy. The steam engine would spread from the United Kingdom and beyond.
The new development of technology was a big key to make the Industrial Revolution possible because the new technologies allowed business owners to change how work was done. The steam engine gave more to machinery like the locomotives and steamships because it powered
Watt’s steam engine was by far the most important of them as it was the engine that powered everything. It powered the sewing machine which made the textile industry more successful. It also created the water frame which made creating cotton threads way easier. They used crop rotation which was more efficient and made stocks rise. Water and Road transportation became
Introduction The First Industrial Revolution The First Industrial Revolution, which peaked during the late 18th century, started a new phase in human history, despite the terrible working conditions and unfair treatments in the factory. The First Industrial Revolution, which started the technological development in Europe during 1760 to 1830, was largely limited to Britain.
The industrial revolution woke up the sense of humanity in people, yet at the same time It turned it off. To begin with, from the year 1819 through 1901, Great Britain was beginning to face an all new era called the Victorian Era. In fact, this era was named like that, because of queen Victoria. Also, this era was very important because it introduced medical advances, scientific knowledge, and technological knowledge that helped increase work efficiency. However, not all the things that occurred were great.
It also led to the involvement of child labor and people belonging to all genders. It was only after the Civil War that the nation’s railroads became extensive enough to distribute the excess product created by the industrialized factories across different regions. Between 1865 and 1920, industries began to industrialize with the advancements in technology. The result of industrialization was more economic activity aimed at distributing and selling the products.
There were new tools and more inventions that came out that had the steam engine at its core(Mattern 7,8). Changed people's mind on time for taking weeks to travel somewhere it would only take a few hours(Mattern 12). The industrial revolution was one of the biggest impacts of the invention of the steam engine(Mattern 15). It lead to people building buildings everywhere, made a better economy and environment.
The world was already getting industrialised before the steam engine was introduced, but without it, the progress would not have happened so quickly. At that time, many things changed for industry, on thing was the location of those. Before the advent of steam power, factories had to be near rivers. These provided the power.
