Statement of Purpose Summer of 2015 at Cairn University changed my life forever. I took a course with Dr. Librizzi, Introduction to Integrative Counseling: that course spoke to my entire life. During that course I decided to become counseled. Since then, it has been a growing passion of mine. My reason for perusing graduate studies in this field is the growing passion I have for counseling. Growing up with a mentally ill mother wasn’t easy and caused me to harbor a lot of emotions, which I carried with me throughout my adult life. It was through counseling that I learned how to express with my feelings instead of suppressing them. Counseling has helped me become emotionally healthy. Majority of people I encounter are ignorant to the importance

Section 1: Professional Development Plan For most of my life I have been motivated to help people so when I made the decision to continue my education at Walden University, I knew that I was ready for the journey. I am currently seeking a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I am expected to graduate in the winter of 2025. This paper was written on June 30th, 2023, with the intent of further understanding my motivations for seeking this degree as well as visualizing the type of counselor I want to be in the future. Throughout this paper, I also discuss what is expected of me throughout my degree program, counseling career, and overall professional development.
Additionally, it offers me an opportunity to attain other extensive skills and appropriate clinical training to ensure that I am sufficient enough to work in a wide variety of settings. Also, graduate school will provide me with advanced techniques and technology where I am able to acquire professional knowledge and the ability to think critically. Similarly, it offers many opportunities for me to further expand my knowledge in the field of speech language
I could not be happier if I can make differences in someone’s life. Although a few weeks ago when interruption took place in working toward my degree, I have thought that maybe counseling isn’t for me. I know my head was spinning and could not think clearly. At that moment certainly I entered into stagnation phase in which I felt disconnected and uninvolved with society as a whole. Fortunately, this hesitation hasn’t lasted long and I found myself on track in moving forward.
Ever since I was young, I have always enjoyed listening to other people, helping them sort out problems and give advices has been my own personal satisfaction. That was the beginning of my interest in the field of Psychology. My curiosity grew more and I began to wonder how the brain works, how do certain people have certain behaviors, and how can others have the completely opposite attitude. It has become one of my passions and attention. I began searching schools and reaching out to people who knew more about this interest of mine, until I found USC.
During the course of my fieldwork I worked directly to the Co-Directors of the Puente Program at East Los Angeles College (ELAC) as their Counseling Assistant. Through my position I was able to assist the Puente Counselor by meeting with students in the program, primarily students
Having a vision in all aspects of life is essential to reach your personal and professional goals. Having the opportunity to accomplish what I have envisioned and turn it into reality has made me strive to further my education and utilize Capella University as a stepping stone to success. When I envision my purpose in psychology, I see myself as life-long learner, unbiased, and a strong foundation to recognize and respect each individual strengths and differences. A key concentration of Capella's course in the field of psychology is to explore and transform one’s passion and interest in the field (Capella, 2018). Completing the Articulating Your Purpose activity has helped me revisit and polish my vision and goals.
Like other professions in the mental health field and helping professions, counseling typically attracts those who are imbued with a need to help others, to make a difference in others’ lives, the community around them and sometimes even the world. There are many facets to a counselor and to counseling, some of which take on personal attributes such as personality, the values and beliefs held by counselors, and what they perceive their role in the counseling profession to be. Other facets involve ethical considerations in therapy, the importance of the profession, the value and process of change, important counseling practices and the value of necessary self-care a counselor ought to engage in. The role of a counselor is to act as a conduit to change and wellbeing in a client.
Not being able to cope with certain situations in my life, turned to many problems and made it hard to live, happily. After receiving therapy with a certified psychologist for almost nine years, my outlook on life has completely transformed. I have learned how to confront my emotions in a healthy way and how to have a positive attitude towards my day, regardless of the trials that life throws at me. I have been able to develop a character that others have called selfless, caring, and determined to help others. The influence of a psychologist 's help has exponentially heightened my interest in aiding people in dealing with difficult situations and inspired me to pursue a degree in
Besides viewing this process as a foundation for future knowledge and abilities, I have been anticipating this stage of gaining deeper and professional knowledge in psychology for a long time. To summarize, this goal is elicited from my passion and enthusiasm for psychology, to remain focused throughout these three years, instead of gaining fame or impress others. After graduation, I want to engage in a job related to psychology, allowing me to serve others by applying the knowledge learnt. It may not need to be anything very great; I just hope to contribute to the society’s wellbeing, whether it is in the clinical setting, corporate world or any other aspects. Most importantly, I hope to raise awareness and acceptance towards mental disorders.
It's not a perfect fit for my personality, I might change my mind or something my happen along the years, but it is something I find extremely important and interesting. Some of the things I will need to become a psychologist I will still need to work on, such as reading more and becoming more involved in people's lives, but I believe that with some effort I can be a good professional one day. Another interest that relates to psychology is reading a lot and being interested in learning new things. This is something I’ve always liked, especially when it comes to subjects I care about. I’m hoping that doing extensive reading and research I can learn more about what a psychologist does exactly, how it helps people and how to be effective doing
I spent a year working towards this degree and eventually decided that I should be honest with myself. If I wanted to live up to the example my parents set and love what I do, I had to be honest with myself and pursue what it is I felt I was meant to do. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family and am still thankful to this day that I followed my heart and my gut instinct. My undergraduate studies at Kent State helped me significantly in my decision pursuing a career in school counseling.

My education focused on family relations, aging, nutritional planning, child development, social work and counseling. A relocation to Texas continued to develop my passion for serving others. I spent four years working with an organization providing home-visits, case management services and parenting education to pregnant teens, at that time I decided to get a Master of Arts in Counseling. During the years spent working on my master’s degree, I continued to provide direct services to the community, which were the most influential and impactful years of my life. It is then I started to visualize and understand my purpose.
Let me start by telling you why psychology is a great choice for me. First, it can help people to solve their problems. With just talks,
