I chose to highlight my time observing at other physical therapy clinics since it demonstrates I can keep up with the general maintenance of the clinic while learning and implementing new exercises with patients at the same time. I chose to highlight my time working as a gymnastics coach since it is remarkably comparable to this position. As a coach, I was responsible for instructing athletes, which is analogous to instructing patients on exercises that will benefit them. Lastly, I chose to highlight my time as the Penn State Club Gymnastics president since it helped me reinforce the time-management and organizational skills I already learned from previous experiences. In my cover letter, I chose to specifically discuss my experiences observing at other physical therapy clinics, my experiences in coaching gymnastics, and my time serving as president of Penn State’s Club Gymnastics team.
With my cover letter, I can explain how my past experiences connect with my current skills and my future career. My professional and leadership experiences allowed me to develop organizational and responsibility skills that I can apply to this job and my distant future career as a physical therapist. I tried to get this point across by demonstrating the different skills I have been able to learn throughout the vast opportunities I have had so far.

For my resume, I draw my audience in with contrast and a well-formatted document. I chose to list things in chronological order, as it pushes my newest and most relevant information to the top of the page. Thank you for taking the time to review my personal statement on why I have chosen to embark on the journey to become a Physician Assistant. My story started several years ago, more than I care to count, when I stumbled into the health care world as a paramedic in rural Pennsylvanian. While in high school, I became friends with several other students who were actively volunteering with a local fire department. I am Shayla Padgett, and I work for South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department (SCVRD). I have over nine years of experience in human services; seven of those years are in rehabilitation. For the past two years I have worked as an Assessment and Career Exploration Specialist and a Job Preparedness Instructor for SCVRD. Using a variety of assessment tools, I assist our clients establish a vocational objective that coincides with their individual interests and abilities. In addition to assessments, I instruct classes that cover a variety of soft skills that prepare clients for careers.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
This portfolio represents the professional and academical achievements of my educational career in the course over the years. It is the compilation of the hard work I have completed and my accomplishments that illustrate my strengths, problem-solving ability, work ethic, responsibility and moral and professional values. All of the education obtained during these years and the effort put in has given me the required knowledge, experience, values, professional behaviors, and ethical standards to make me a stronger and well prepared professional nurse. It has been a long journey since I started my nursing education becoming a CNA, nurse assistant, then a practical nurse LPN. Continuing with my education I became a registered nurse (RN) and now I am finishing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
