Key Truth Three: Studying The Bible

The Bishop G. T Haywood Bible Institute (GTHI) is an affiliated satellite campus of the Aenon Bible College. The Aenon Bible College established in 1941 provides accredited college courses both locally and online. The academic program for GTHI is designed to assist students making the transition into the ministry. The goal is to provide core knowledge and understanding concerning the principle elements required in developing an effective ministry.

Report On Religious Literacy In the book Religious Literacy, Stephen Prothero’s main argument is that religious literacy is very important and it is important for youth to be religiously knowledgeable. Prothero starts off his book by talking about how “Americans are both deeply religious and profoundly ignorant about religion” (1). Prothero says this because Americans go to church like and are religious yet know nothing about the basics of a religion. Then Prothero goes on to show some examples in which people being religiously knowledgeable would have helped a situation.

One might say books help people be themselves and helps the writers get their stories out. For example Always Running by Luis J. Rodriguez is an autobiography and a fiction story. By Luis writing this book it helped him share his story and for other people to connect and see how that story is so real. The book always running has a lot of messages.

I enjoyed very much all the good points mentioned in your discussion board regarding the Bible. I do believe that, it is important to learn the history, meaning and behind God’s plan for the Bible in our regular day lives. The deceptions that Christian’s allow themselves to believe (i.e. just this once, it’s not going to hurt anyone, I can handle it, I can stop whenever I want, etc.) come directly from Satan. There was a time when hearing a curse word or seeing too much flesh in a movie would be embarrassing; now it appears to be the norm and most Christians do not even bat an eye at such things any more.

Sanders offers a new perspective of angle on the concept of learning. When thinking of learning, most jump to memorization or intelligence, but Sanders argues that is not actually learning. He views learning as improving one’s self-image and comprehension so that they can use those skills in the future. He also offers a new perspective on the questions to ask about a college education. One shouldn’t ask how can I get my degree, but rather how they can get the most out of their degree.

C.S. Lewis narrates a sermon called, Learning in War-time, where he articulates why people should learn during times of war. Lewis’ reasons as to why we should be educating ourselves, despite negative circumstances includes: humankind always being in a state of crisis, if mankind postpones searching for knowledge until life is secure for everyone, the search will never begin, we need to learn in order to have knowledge and skill when combatting bad philosophy, and surrendering yourself to only one cause, like the war, removes you from God. Many times, especially at Bible College it gets monotonous and even robotic to say that Jesus is the reason why we have peace with the Father as it is said many times and loses its meaning.
