Henry Tudor famously known as Henry VIII was born January 28, 1547, at the Greenwich Palace, in Greenwich London, England. He was the second son of Henry VII. His eldest brother Arthur, Prince of Wales was born September 20, 1486. Henry VII was never supposed to be king. His older had been prepared for the throne meanwhile Henry was steered towards having learning different languages, music, sports, poetry, theologies and even having a church career.
Arthur who had been betrothed at the age of 2 to Catherine of Aragon had died April 2, 1502, of what is undetermined today, but by many witnesses claims and his symptoms would be diagnosed today as Tuberculosis. He died at the tender age of 15 and had only been married for less than five months

Although, devasted she held firm and refused to leave. She took matters into her own hands by writing to the Holy Emporer of Rome Charles V who was Catherine’s nephew. Clement VII who was pope at the time refused to the annulment due to the problems he would face from Charles V. Charles V had powerful feelings for family honor and public prestige and would not give Henry his wishes. The popes representative Cardinal Campeius visited England to discuss the matter is knowing he was under great scrutiny and a diplomatic nightmare. He received overwhelming pressure from the King wanting the ruling in his favor. Charles V used his higher power to apply more pressure and get the matter aborted and called to Rome where it could be ruled in Catherine’s. A strategy was formed, and a proposition would offer to step down as queen and enter to a nunnery and allow Henry to remarry, but the queen was immovable. Catherine believed she married Henry in the sight of God and man and had been married for 20 years that her marriage was in fact legitimate. Unless God says so she will remain his wife. Marrying the jester was the right choice for Catherine because the jester is her true love. In 1534 King Henry The 8th left the Catholic Church and formed the Church Of England, declaring himself the head of it! That would extremely change the life and culture of England. Religion plays a big role in life today and even more back then.
The English Reformation lead to a drastic change in England based on a single King’s wishes. King Henry VIII desired to begin a new church that would allow him to divorce his wife. He began the Church of England and demanded that his kids follow in his footsteps. Anyone who disagreed with King Henry was executed and the politics of England changed too. Rebellions over this new Church began and many were killed and unhappy.

King Henry’s marriage to Katherine was finally annulled and he remarried to one of the queen’s servants Anne Boleyn but she did not bear a son either. When he died England became mainly Calvinistic with hints of Protestantism. The Catholic Church had a fairly slow response to the accusations of the corruption but they did form the Council of Trent which had the main job of defeating heresy in the Church. This council also introduced the Counter-Reformation which made many changes to the way the Church was being run and added more intellect elements in with the teachings.
Henry VIII broke away from the Church so that he was able to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon when she would not give him a son as a heir. The church would not grant him his annulment, so he excommunicated himself from the Church. By doing so he became Protestant, and England broke away from the Catholic Church. After Henry died, his son ruled, before he died as well. After the reign of her half brother, Mary I, also known as Bloody Mary, became queen of England.
Before the Reformation, the Church was one of the most influential and controlling powers in Europe. However, the Reformation managed to distance the Church from the government which allowed new developments to be made. The government was distanced from the Church, as more secular rulers converted to Protestantism, decreasing the Church’s authority over government. The uneasy political situation in Europe at the time allowed for the Reformation to spread further over Europe. The rise of new secular ideas made civilians more aware of political situations as they could now read political texts and form their own ideas.
