Noah Lacey Mrs. Kirkpatrick English 10 - period 7 3/13/2023 Our World is More Evil Than Good “Some people say that they feel that life is meaningless because the world is full of evil and suffering.” (Hutson 1). This shows what people’s perspective is on the evil vs good in the world. In Lord of the Flies, Golding shows how human nature is more evil than good. This stance is an accurate reflection on human nature because of what events took place in Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Nazi Germany/Adolf Hitler. Golding presents that human nature is evil through various kids on the island. For example, one child that comes to mind is Roger. The text says, “Piggy fell forty feet and landed on his back across the square red rock into …show more content…
For example an article published by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust says, “The Concentration camps included Jehovah’s Witnesses, Roma and Sinti people (known as gypsies), gay men, and people the Nazis considered ‘asocial’ (such as beggars, alcoholics and certain kinds of criminal) (Concentration Camps). The harsh conditions and cruel treatment in these camps resulted in large numbers of prisoners dying, with many being arbitrarily murdered by camp guards. Humiliation and harassment were intended to destroy the spirit of the people held in the camp” (Concentration Camps). This shows how cruel Nazis were to people who were not like the standard German citizen. Furthermore, another example of how evil the Nazis were is the following quote: “The idea that Jews belonged to a different people than the Germans, for instance, caught on. Even Jews who had converted to Christianity were still 'different' because of their bloodline.” (Hitler’s Antisemitism. Why Did He Hate the Jews?) This shows that in the nineteenth century most people in Germany looked down upon Jews, so Hitler could have gotten his views from older German folks. Another example from the same article says, “What we do know is that two Austrian politicians greatly influenced Hitler's thinking.” (The first, Georg Ritter von Schönerer and the second Karl Lueger. The hatred that these two men shared for Jews
The Nazis become cruel to others and even become racist against other people, seeing the Jews more as objects or animals other than humans. Some of the Germans began by helping the Jews and giving comfort. The first place we see a helpful German turn on the Jews is on page 74. One soldier had been trying to offer the prisoners comfort, making them think they will be kept safe. Once he realizes his bosses have other plans he quickly abandons his Jewish ‘’friends.
Therefore, they were suspected of playing an important role in Germany’s defeat and surrender. I chose this article because I feel like it provides an explanation as to why the Germans hated the Jews as much as they
William Golding's book Lord of the Flies, shows how evil humans are at heart. The book is about a group of British boys who crash on an island and slowly turn savage. Jack and Ralph are split into two groups and after all the conflict ends up with people dead. William Golding in his book Lord of the flies tells us that people are more evil than good. This is shown in the killing of Simon, the killing of Piggy, and the killing of the sow.
Overcrowded and underfed, they finally reached Birkenau, their destination. Immediately the Jews are treated less than human as evident by Elie Wiesel’s father attempting to communicate with an overseer, “The gypsy looked him up and down slowly, from head to foot. As if he wanted to convince himself that this man addressing him was really a creature of flesh and bone, a living being with a body and a belly. Then as if he had suddenly woken up from a heavy doze, he dealt my father such a clout that he fell to the ground, crawling back to his place on all fours.” It appeared as though the Nazis viewed the Jewish people with extreme dislike or more accurately, a burning hatred.
If Hitler’s irrational hatred towards the Jewish people was condemned and denounced by more of the German public he likely would never have gained the amount of influence and power he did. Overall, it is important to learn from the mistakes of German citizens of the early twentieth century
What is the nature of humans? Is it good or bad? Anywhere you look, you can see that human nature seems innocent and pure, but the minds of many people are evil and filled with hate. In "Lord of the Flies,” Golding demonstrated that human nature is more sinister than benevolent.
We are enemies of the Jews because we are fighters for the freedom of the German people. The Jew is the cause and the beneficiary of our misery... He has made two halves of Germany. He is the real cause for our loss of the Great War. The Jew is responsible for our misery and he lives on it.
Are People Innately Good or Bad? In the book “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding a plane crashes on an uninhabited island in the middle of the ocean leaving a group of adolescent boys to survive until help comes. The boys try to elect a leader to keep order on the island, but this system eventually falls apart, leading to chaos. This book has a hidden question called an allegory.
(4).This paragraph shows how brutal the Nazi soldiers were towards the Jewish prisoners, even from the very beginning. This paragraph also shows that some of the Jewish people
He hated them because of their beliefs and customs. In his eyes, Germans were the “perfect” race. He had a name for this race which was called the Aryan race which referred to people who were non-Jewish and non-Gypsy Caucasians. Since he hated Jews so much, he began what is called the Holocaust. The Holocaust was between January 30, 1933 through May 8, 1945.
Throughout the course of history, humans have shown that they will trend towards evilness, instead of doing the right thing; evilness has been shown through events like slavery, the terrorist act of 9/11, and further explored through literature, such as in William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. One Historical event that truly shows evil is the history of slavery. Throughout slavery there was a lot of slave masters mistreating slaves and one powerful quote from a former slave stated. “I look upon it as the climax of all misnomers, the boldest of frauds, and the grosset of all libels' ' (Fredrick Douglass). Seeing this from a former slave who taught himself how to write since the slave owners weren't gonna teach him shows a lot about slave masters
Body paragraph #3: Towards the end of this book you see the boys get comfortable or somewhat used to death and killing so much so when the large boulder or rock of some sort hits and kills piggy the boys just stare. They compare their friend piggy’s body to it looking like a pig 's dead body. One of the boys are talking about piggy 's dead body, “Piggy 's arms and legs twitched a bit, like a pig 's after it has been killed.” Pg. 165
The Jews did not manage themselves like humans, so the SS shouted at them when they escape. “Faster, you swine, you filthy sons of bitches! Why not” (Wiesel 81). Therefore, the SS hurried the Jews up and abused at them with dirty words, which showed that the Jews weren’t respected, so it showed they are treated as subhumans. The Jews were put into cattle wagons by the SS, which is a kind of humiliate to those Jews.
Evil is an inherent trait that humans have. In William Golding’s book, The Lord of the Flies, a group of boys are stranded on an island and have to figure out how to get rescued. At first, the boys have a lot of fun because there are no adults, but as they’re on the island longer and longer, they start to turn on each other. The author of the book, chose to make the characters young British boys for multiple reasons. First, they are British because the world sees British people as very civilized and not very likely to act like savages.
Not only were Jews imprisoned in these camps, but also they were also perceived to be racially inferior or politically unacceptable. They also arrested Germans who resisted their domination as
