Michelangelo was born on March 6, 1475. Michelangelo was an Italian painter, sculptor. Three of his famous works are, David and Pietà sculptures, as well as the Sistine Chapel ceiling painting. Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel from 1508 to 1541. David was the symbol and guardian of Florentine liberty.

The period brought with it, great scientists, painters, thinkers, writers, and many wonderful people who contributed their work to change the world. One amongst these great people, was Raphael, an amazing Italian painter of the high renaissance period. Raphael painted for the church earlier in his life and later, his paintings became a great part of the renaissance. He was called by the Pope Julius 2 to paint frescos in a suite of the Vatican papal apartments.

Michelangelo has been regarded as one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance time period and a famous figure for artists in modern day. He was a sculptor, painter, and architect widely known to humanity. Not only did Michelangelo excel in his artistic expertise, he also became strongly influential to Renaissance society. Michelangelo, formally known as Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, was born on March 6, 1475 in Caprese, Italy, and then moved to Florence. Despite the fact that he was born in Caprese, Michelangelo regards Florence as his hometown because of the lively, artistic locales that sparked his interests.

Born during the Renaissance era or “Rebirth” as some may call it, Michelangelo usedthis critical change in time to his advantage. Michelangelo used his day to day life challengesand struggles to exemplify his masterpieces in sculpture and art. With his mother passing at ayoung age, his father working hard to provide for Michelangelo and his siblings, and theconstant relocation his family did, Michelangelo was had some obstacles to overcome at such ayoung age. I feel these and many other challenges he faced molded him into the artistic legendhe is to this present day. The man was so great he was also referred to as “The Divine One”.

People from all around wanted him to create sculptures or paint for them. He sculpted one of his most famous creations, David, for a political leader in Florence. Although he excelled in both, he saw himself as a sculptor rather than a painter. It took him four years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. He also carved the Pieta for a tomb chapel.

Michelangelo was a sculptor before painting, his sculptor skills and talents are definitely seen in the Sistine Ceiling. In this painting, all the people are drawn more realistically than the Maesta, he is able to illustrate both strength and elegance while also representing the ideal beauty. The most important part of the Sistine Ceiling are the series of nine scenes that move across the central panels, it starts with the creation of the world and god separating light from darkness. Michelangelo wanted to honor God through the Sistine Ceiling by constructing a connection between man and God in all his panels. He used this connection because god in the Rome religious society was considered to be an almighty and powerful being.

Religion is one of the many themes that is reflected within Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. It is clear that Christianity was still an influential religious force. Religion has been expressed in many different kinds of art during the Renaissance. Those during that era found God in beautiful things. Michelangelo claimed that art came from the heavens.

Much like the Olympians from ancient mythology, Renaissance artists are regarded as gods. They revolutionized the art world, reviving themes and styles derived from the Ancient Greeks and Romans. The style they created completely contrasted with that of its predecessor, International Gothic. But how did this “Rebirth” come about? There are many answers to this question, but much of it lies in patriotism and civic values, especially in sculpture.

The renaissance was a time of art and rebirth. Many great artists appeared during this time bringing their own individual skills and talent. These artists were Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael. However out of the four, Leonardo was the most significant. Not only was he a great artist, but an inventor, engineer, and scientist.

Leonardo da Vinci was a talented scientist, inventor, painter of the Renaissance europe. Modern scholars referred to him as "the most perfect representative of the Renaissance", is unique in the history of mankind all rounder, his greatest achievement is his masterpiece of painting, "Monalisa", "the last supper", "virgin of the rocks" and other works, reflects his superb artistic attainments. He believes that the most beautiful object of nature is the human body, the human body is a wonderful work of nature, painters should be the core of the object of painting. He is a deep thinking, knowledgeable, versatile painter, astronomer, inventor, engineer.
