Most Important Events In American History

On May 10, 1773 the British Parliament imposed a tax on the American colonists called the Tea Act. The Tea Act allowed the British East India Company to be excluded from paying taxes which prevented American tea companies to set competitive prices to buyers. On December 16, 1773 Samuel Adams and other colonists disguised themselves as Indians, boarded the ship British tea ships and threw all the tea into the bay. This was known later as the Boston Tea Party.

The colonies have spoken! Sounds of justified defiance shall reach London’s parliament with screeching sounds unbearable to the human ear! On May 10, 1773, parliament instituted a new tax called the Tea Act. This act granted the British East India Company a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. Yesterday, on December 16, 1773, colonist dressed up as Indians and raided East India Company ships, revolting against the multiple tax laws placed on the colonies.

The British act finally pushed the colonists from protests was the Tea Act of 1773 proposed by Lord North was placed. It began when the East India company almost was in bankruptcy since their tea was barely bought; much of Britain's money was used for the French and Indian War and was not able to help the company get out of their crisis. The Tea Act of 1773 lowered the prices of tea and also added tax to it to the point it created monopoly and it caused colonial merchants to lose money since they were no longer able to sell tea within the colonies anymore. It also allowed the East India Company to be the only one to ship to the colonies which meant that the company was the only way for colonists to get tea from.

During the early 1700s, the protests in the colonies against British policies quieted down, but that does not mean that the colonists were satisfied with the British government. The Tea Act was intended to help the British East India Company. Everyone that had been drinking tea was paying taxes that Parliament had placed on them without their consent. The Tea Act however, lowered the price to the tea by allowing the East India Company to ship tea directly to the colonies. Lots of Colonial leaders argued that even though the price of tea was lowered, colonists still had to pay the tax on the tea.

The Quebec Act was also seen as evidence of British intentions to limit colonial autonomy and restrict their liberties. This realization was fueled by the fact that the Act was passed at the same time as the Coercive Acts, which created to punish the colonies for the Boston Tea Party. The combination of these two measures caused widespread displeasure and led to the convening of the First Continental Congress in September 1774. At this meeting, colonial leaders condemned the Quebec Act and the Coercive Acts, setting the stage for further resistance to British

What if I said the Boston tea party was a major event in American history. For instance, did know the Britains were in major debt with France from the great war. Or how did the people in Boston to manage to overthrow the tea. How does the Boston tea party have an effect on today 's society?

This had a big effect on Britain’s tea company which lead to the Tea Act of 1773. Parliament realized what had happened so they decided to help the Americans obey the law, instead of fighting it, by lowering the tax amount which caused their tea price to be cheaper than that of the Dutch. (147) But many Americans saw this as a trick, “The real goal,…was the increased revenue that would pay the salaries of royal governors and judges…reassertion of Britain’s right to tax the colonists. ”(147)

“Taxation Without Representation”         American colonists thought that Britain was taxing them unfairly for the expenses caused during the French and Indian war or that Parliament had the right to tax them since there weren’t any American colonies represented in Parliament. Since the American colonists drank a lot of tea, Britain decided to impose taxes on the American colonies. Because the taxes increased, the American colonists started to smuggle tea from the Dutch and other European countries. The Boston Tea Party was the first significant act of defiance by American colonists and was one of the things that lead to the start of the American Revolution, which began in Massachusetts on April 19, 1775.        

The Boston Tea Party disrupted this period of calm. In December 1773, a group of patriots took over three ships and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. The harsh Tea Act imposed by the British caused this action. Two years later, the British began their march to Lexington and Concord to arrest patriot leaders and seize their weapons.

However, in 1773, the East India Company noticed that there was an overproduction of tea and its prices surely would decline (“The Third Imperial Crisis”). Tea was one of the, if not the, most valuable asset to many members in Parliament. Britain was forced to impose a new Tea tax on the colonists, which was aimed to keep the price of tea high. Even this act was reasonable in the eyes of the British, but to the colonists, this was just a British way of assuring dominance considering it was now for profit rather than to pay off debts. The response to the Tea Acts was the Boston Tea Party of 1773 (“The Third Imperial Crisis”).

American history is the study of major events and people that shaped the country many live in today. One of the major people that shaped America today was George Washington. He was the first and only general to lead in the revolutionary war. One of the major events in American history was Arnolds march to fort Ticonderoga. This gave the American army the supply of canons it needed to fight the British.

In the number 5 spot for the most important events in U.S. history in my opinion is The Civil War. I think that because it was an important for america war it took place from 1861 to 1865. It was the war for the survival of the union or the independence for confederacy. It was between the north and the south about slavery and all the other problems that were happening at the time. For the fourth spot on the list I would have to say 9/11.
