I do believe that music clears my mind and makes me happy no matter what emotion I have before I listen. It has a certain superpower that can change someone from sad to happy or from depressed to proud in a few minutes if you listen to the right songs or genre. I know that just turning on a song that someone likes can make their day. Music has enough power to get someone to get up and dance and that is special. It can power athletes, singers, actors, doctors, teachers, and anyone.

The idea of using music as a form of therapy dates back to Aristotle’s and Plato’s days. Aristotle understood the great impact music had on listeners and spoke about how it can affect the emotional states of an individual. “Music directly imitates the passions or states of the soul… when one listens to music that imitates a certain passion, he becomes imbued with the same passion; and if over a long time he habitually listens to music that rouses ignoble passions, his whole character will be shaped to an ignoble form” (Aristotle). When concentrating on a specific task you are normally only using one part of your brain while concentrating so the other parts of your brain that is unoccupied drifts off which causes you to lose concentration.

Do people ever stop and think that a certain song has changed their mood completely? One minute they were mad and the next they are sad. Or that music can help people with illnesses and disabilities. How music can affect the brain, emotions, memory and so much more. Music plays a key part in today’s society.
In a study titled ‘Music as an Aid For Postoperative Recovery in Adults’, performed on hospital patients, groups were subject to music therapy before, during, and after surgery. Across seven thousand patients, music decreased the patients’ stress and pain the majority of the time. Stress and pain levels even reduced during surgery (The Lancet). Music therapy involves other factors besides music, but simply attempting to boost one’s mood while listening to music can have a dramatic affect. Another experiment on the effects of music on stress was done by Yuna Ferguson and Kennon Sheldon.
Music has always been a part of my life. In definition, it is “vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.” Ever since I was a young child, I have loved music. The strong, steady beats, the entrancing melodies, and the lyrics that vary between heartwarming and heart-wrenching have always had an unexplainable effect on my life. Music seems to have the ability to change certain aspects of my world.
Therefore, I am standing here to hopefully persuade all of you regarding the benefits of music that you could experience in your life. Basically, there are many benefits of listening to music but today, I am going to focus only three significant reasons of how music can be a healer in our life. First and foremost, it may seem typical but music really can make you happy. Besides, music also can enhance your performance during a workout. Last but not least, music can be a factor to improve sleep quality.
People are worried that if patients are able to choose their own music, depending on what they are listening to, might speed up their heart rate and cause problems. When comparing patients who had listened to music before surgery to those who didn’t, it showed that the music had helped the patients up to four hours after their surgery.

For an example, listening to music while driving can positively rock mood instantly. In addition, listening to music can have a largely effect on a person’s minds and a person’s body. Later, listening to music also reduces stress, anxiety and depression that lead a person becoming calm and soothing. Some experts said music really does help people lead to a better mood and get in touch with their feelings.
