MY BOOK PROJECT I read the book “My brother Sam is dead” that was wrote by the Author James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier. It is a Historical Fiction book wrote during the American Revolutionary war. This book is about a boy named Timothy Meeker that lived in Connecticut. Tim's father is a Loyalist at great Britain but Sam (Tim’s older teenage brother) came home from Yale and announced that he joined the Continental Army to fight against the British. His Father was outraged and yelled and fought with him like they normally did and Sam ran away and hid in a little hut for a little while.

There a myriad of historical facts and quotes from some of the most salient figures in American history. These individuals have molded how the American society is today. Although many of these people made mistakes in their careers, these mistakes have changed us for the better. While their thought process may have been flawed, their executions of the ideas may have been carried out better.

War is full of onslaught, violence, and brutality, but also war is also an entity where you can choose to fight for your freedom and end injustice. The cons of war, like the senseless brutality, for when men try to be a deserter, they will lose their life. The pros are fighting for your freedom and ending injustice; if your country wins the war, you get your freedom and you stop unnecessary deaths. In My Brother Sam is Dead, the Collier brothers show that war has many pros and cons to it. Tim decides to be neutral, due to the tragic deaths of his best friend Jerry, his father Life, and his brother Sam.

Some people still wonder if war can be justified by its principles or cause. It can be argued that war can be justified due to the principles of freedom and justice that soldiers are willing to die for. However, many argue against this saying that war should be avoided at all costs due to collateral damage and the massive loss of innocent life. The argument of war is whether or not the sacrifice of human life is necessary or not. The authors of My Brother Sam Is Dead are totally against war; they are neutral and they give Tim the same idea as them in the novel. They even show the irony and cruelty of war in the book by the punishing and ironic deaths of Ned, Sam, and Life. This novel is based in Redding, Conneticut during the time of the Revolutionary War.

This chapter “The Ghost Soldiers”, showed us how Tim O’Brien and the other soldiers were dealing with the war both physically and psychologically. It also shows us how the Tim O'Brien behaved and felt when he was shot, wounded and had a bacteria infection on his butt and how the war changed the way he thought, and viewed the other soldiers around him. This chapter also contain a lot of psychological lens. From the way Tim O’Brien felt when he was shot and separated from his unit to a new unit to when he wanted revenge on Bobby Jorgenson for almost “killing” him.

In the story, Tim is torn on whether he should side with his loyalist father, Life, or his patriotic brother, Sam. Eventually, Sam enlists in the Revolutionary Army, which causes major controversy in his family. With Sam gone and the war attacking their small town of Redding, everything is different for Tim.

Like any other war, much of the damage and casualties resulted from civilian deaths when the raging armies swept through the colonies. The Loyalists- those who supported Great Britain and King George- and the Patriots- those who supported the principles of freedom and independence- alike were both hurt, killed, imprisoned, or otherwise dragged into the war, even when they did not join the army for either side. The Collier brothers use various instances of deaths throughout the storyline of My Brother Sam is Dead to show how the injustices and violences of war inherently manifest themselves. The irony of Jerry Sanford, Eliphalet Meeker, and Samuel Meeker’s deaths ultimately induce Tim to make the decision to remain neutral for the duration of the American Revolution.

While their at it, Old Yeller, who is badly hurt follows them and a wolf with hydrophobia comes and attacks them. Old Yeller fights with wolf and Travis takes his gun and takes a shot at the wolf. He kills him, but the wolf scratches Old Yeller and Travis is forced to kill him. Lisbeth brings her best pup and gives it to Travis.

Throughout the book, Tim tries to decide what side he is on; then, after a few deaths of people close to him, he decides to remain neutral and oppose war. In My Brother Sam is Dead, Tim makes his decision to remain neutral after the ironic, cruel deaths of Life Meeker, Jerry Sanford, and Sam Meeker. Life Meeker, Tim’s and Sam’s father, was a strong Loyalist. Unfortunately, he was not rewarded for that loyalty. Life was captured by cowboys, who claimed to be Patriots, his way back home from Verplancks Point with Tim.

Later on Sam leaves the house with the Brown Bess and
