My Self-Concept My self-concept includes a number of different adjectives and roles, these include both good and bad things. The adjectives I use to describe myself are as follows: kind, loyal, selfish, hard working, apathetic, practical, honest, occasionally rude, and procrastinator. As for the roles that I fill, I am a son, a brother, a friend, a student, the oldest son, and a teacher. Self-concept is a product of many things, it is not just simply what a person is. One specific example of an action that affects someone’s self-concept would be social comparisons. One example of how social comparisons have shaped me is when in the 6th grade, I started to realize that all my friends had Nike shoes and I had a generic brand. This eventually lead me to begging my parents for some new shoes and me finally getting some Nike shoes for the start of 7th grade year. This has had an effect on me since then, and to this day I still love Nike shoes. Another example of when I was affected by social comparisons was when one of my friends brought a laptop to school. This was when I first realized that I loved computers and that I needed to have one. After lots of time spend asking, my parents finally gave in and bought me my first laptop. This effect was also long term, because after that I got a better laptop, then a desktop, and now I have a very nice custom build desktop computer. The last two examples had a lasting effect, but not all social comparisons end with this result. An example of a social comparison that did not leave a lasting effect was when I noticed that all my friends were in the school Band. When I came to this realization, I decided that I was going to join too. This didn’t last long thought because soon after I started to learn a little about the program and started to do some practicing, I knew that the passion was not there. For example, if someone emplaces the idea that one is overweight in one’s head, one is going to possibly take that into account when looking in the mirror. Self-concept is also said to contribute to how we may behave in the future by setting up goals that reflect our opinions of ourselves. In some instances, individuals may believe that they will be a successful doctor and, because of that self-concept, it becomes reality. This is known as self-fulfilling prophecies. Self-esteem is the worth of what one takes from one’s self-awareness and self-concept.
An individuals identity is directly related to their self concept, depending on a subjective self based impression of the self. Two facets of self concepts include personality and culture/gender roles. Personality is a characteristic that can accurately describe ones behavior most of the time. Culture/gender roles influence how one acts based on social pressure and norms. This means that self concept is both enduring but changeable.
It was really hard for mea t first because it was something knew to me but I started getting the hang of it and I started having fun learning about what they do in this program and how they contribute to their community. Although sometimes it would get tough everything they did had a purpose. The yelling, the physical training, and the tests.

Possessing little self-regard can lead people to become depressed, to fall short of their potential, or to tolerate abusive situations and relationships. Too much self-love, but, results in an off-putting sense of entitlement and an inability to learn from failures. no other self-help topic has spawned so much advice and so many theories. There are a few links between an individual’s identity, self-esteem and self-image. An individual’s identity is them, their age, their name, ethnicity and background, their family, also their language and education. Their self-esteem means how much they actually value themselves and lastly their self-image is how they view themselves or see themselves. If they have no identity, for example if they are afraid of how others might see them this links to a low self-esteem which can lead to social isolation and/or they might suffer from depression, then their self-image may then suffer such as they forget to look after their personal appearance, hygiene and how they used to dress. On the other hand if they are happy and confidence with their identity then the individual is most likely to look after themselves and their personal image more such as the way they look, dress, eat healthily and exercise etc.
Self, is a dynamic, open system, based on ones actions. King (1981) explains self as Jersild’s (1952) definition that “knowledge of self is a key to understanding human behavior because self is the way I define me to myself and to others. Self is all that I am. I am a whole person. Self is what I think of me and what I am capable of being and doing.
In Mcleod’s article, it said that people “‘think about, evaluate, or perceive’ themselves” (Mcleod 1). Mcleod talks, in the article, about how people thinking, evaluating, and perceiving about themselves is call self-concept. Whenever people think about themselves, most of the time, people are confused about whether or not they are pursuing right actions for their future, especially people with low self-esteem . Furthermore, people get more confused if their actions dramatically differ from others. However, again, people’s actions determine who they are, so even if their actions are dramatically different from others, it may be a path for that person’s success.

I understand claims stating such academic achievement is merely a graduation certificate, without guarantee of work opportunities. My Identity Defined My Identity is a collaboration of the other people who have had an impact on me, as well as the experiences I have undergone and endured so far in my life.. My heritage and ethnicity influences me to an extent, but it does not necessarily define me. I consider my identity to be how I see myself and what strengths I posses. I have produced the identity I hold, and outside forces have only positively influence me and helped to better myself as a person.
Self expression is a term many people use. The meaning of it is how you show your true self around people expressing thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Many of it can be seen through art, writing, music, and dance. People show themselves with many different expressions. It can be any type of art and even writing.
Evolve into Having Self-Awareness Being self-aware simply means that you have a keen understanding of your own personality. That includes your positive and negative traits, your thoughts and beliefs, your feelings, and your inspiration. It would be easier for you to understand others when you are self-aware. You will also be able to tell how they see you in return. Most people believe that they have a good sense of self-awareness, but it would be best to check at a comparative scale to see where you fall on it in contrast with others.
I have always hated writing about myself, and I always dreaded assignments in school where I had to describe myself. I always wanted to avoid doing these assignments because I did not want to sound narcissistic, or self-absorbed. I dislike people like that now, because I used to be one of those people. It took many lessons learned before I humbled myself; I am still learning to humble myself today with recent experiences I have had. Although I hate to write about myself, I have always liked to reflect on myself.
