I am an exceptional National Honor Society candidate because of my record of achievements in the classroom and the community. My accomplishments as a student, a Keystone club officer, a Girl Scout, a Junior Leadership Seminar delegate, and Ramstein cheerleader satisfy the qualifications of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. It is upon these four pillars that NHS is based. As a National Honor Society member, I will use my strengths to help Ramstein NHS Chapter continue its distinguished record of accomplishment in community service. I excel in scholarship. Throughout my high school career, I have maintained a 4.139 GPA. I consider academics to be very valuable and strive for high grades in all my classes. I’ve taken two AP classes, …show more content…
I demonstrate my outstanding achievements in service through the clubs and teams I participate in. I’ve organized many teen outreach events targeted towards middle and high schoolers such as lock-ins and dances, but I have also organized community service events targeted for the whole base, for example barbeques. A recent example of this would be the Ramstein Color Run taking place next month. Being a Girl Scout for 7 years taught me to appreciate and enjoy taking action in the community. From a young age, I became used to helping around my community. I organized multiple clothing, food, and book drives. While I was a Girl Scout, I earned my Bronze and Silver award: the second and third highest awards a Girl Scout can earn. Some other examples of events that I’ve planned to give back to my community are cheer clinics, movie nights, and 8th grade prom. I also have gift wrapped at the KMCC during the holiday season, tutored students at the Intermediate School, volunteered at the Ramstein Bazaar, picked up trash around the base, and bagged groceries at the commissary multiple times. Taking action in the community is important to me because I like to make positive impacts that benefit the lives of
Ultimately, activities with the same orientation have inspired me to make a positive impact on my community in the future. Operation Santa has been a teaching tool towards the important ideal I learned at a young age, "Help others even though they may not be able to help you." Moreover, interacting with individuals who are not as fortunate as I am has humbled and motivated me to become the best person I can be in order to help other hapless members of my community. I believe this project is one of the most rewarding activities any volunteer can participate in. Reaching out to families that endure a
As a member of Key Club I was a strong contributor to the volunteer opportunities that arose, (i.e. Beach Cleanup, Trick or Treat for UNICEF). In my third year of high school, I became the secretary of the School Improvement Committee. As the secretary, I was responsible for making sure all of the meetings ran smoothly and were recorded for future use. Along with these club activities, I have volunteered for many of the teachers and staff in the school. Such activities included filing, running papers to classrooms, and helping out during school activities.
As of last year, I became Co-President of the Stand Up Against Cancer Club. The officer positions were passed down to myself and two other friends our sophomore year by senior of the class of 2015. Though our club had a very slow start last year, we are excited to recruit new members and hopefully conduct more service projects. We hope to get the school more involved with our club and want to make a difference even if its only in small measures. Last year, we made christmas cards to send to Brenner’s children’s hospital.
For my community service project, I held a yard sale on October 17th, 2015 from 6:30 a.m. to one. I had received supplies from my family members and from my church members to sell. I made flyers and posted them in the community facilities, had the radio make an announcement, had the school announce the yard sale for two weeks, and had it announced on social media. This project was a success because with the yard sale and donations, I raised over 100 dollars to donate to The Wounded Warrior Project. I chose The Wounded Warrior Project because of the personal ties I have to the United States Military.
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my relentless hard work and perseverance, I believe that I possess the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
This is what the National Honor Society hopes for in a member. I know i’m not perfect and can make mistakes at times, but acknowledging that takes a lot of character. My academic achievements are a result of my determination and drive to ensure that i’ll be able to achieve success in the future as well as serve as role model to the younger siblings and cousins in my family. Getting good grades is a priority to me. Having a XX GPA and being a Distinguished Varsity Scholar for the past 3 years didn 't happen by luck, it happened because of the sheer dedication I have towards my school and
In this nonprofit organization, I volunteer at different events around the Greater Kansas City area. I gained more than 15 hours of service work. I helped organize school dances, pep rallies, and took part in Global Youth Service Day. I attend seminars during the school year to learn more about business etiquette and career development. I support the basketball and football teams by attending their games and selling school products to fundraise.
Through community outreach, National Honors Society in our schools chapter is involved. Being in the club for two years, as a senior, I have participated in countless community service projects as well as obtaining a leadership position; Executive Board. Through the Executive Board, these individuals help organize meetings, service projects and ideas school wide to promote the club. National Honors Society brings new ideas and countless ways to give service to the community that I can contribute to Tampa. I am also Red Cross Club President.
I have been a Girl Scout since I was five years old, and scouting has taught me the importance of giving back to the community. It is second nature in my world to participate in community outings and to provide those in need with necessities to survive and thrive. My troop hosted numerous events: collecting cans for food drives, providing supplies for shelters, making blankets for children’s hospitals, and distributing toiletries to soldiers. Girl Scouts was the primary foundation and inspiration that led me to volunteering at my local Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. Witnessing patients smile when I provided warm towels and other comforts inherently felt rewarding, especially when I came to discharge them.
My involvement in the community started when I was extremely young. At the age of 5, I was helping serve food to the homeless on Christmas morning. As I got older, I volunteered in soup kitchens, recovery programs, and even local after-school programs. In addition, over the years, I have partaken in organizing events such as a Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive as well as a Children’s Christmas Party. Through these opportunities, I have managed to obtain multiple leadership roles such as being an academic mentor, community outreach organizer, as well as a volunteer marketing coordinator.
There is an honor and humble feeling that comes to those who give back to their community. It is no different for myself. I have volunteered in many community doings. I helped my town’s annual East Egg Hunt by filling and hiding eggs, as well as handling and donating some of the main prizes. I have furthermore served the local police men and women a lunch for their phenomenal service to the community.
Throughout high school, I have participated in many extracurricular activities and volunteer work. Many of those activities included neighborhood clean-ups, fundraisers, science research, community outreach and more. Out of all my activities throughout my high school career; one organization specifically played a major role in my continuous quest to improve my community. During my junior year of high school, I got the opportunity to take part in an organization dedicated to uplifting inner city youth. I was a peer leader at Community Healthcare Network Teens P.A.C.T (positive action and choices for teens).
I can never remember a time that my family was not involved with fundraisers and special events for individuals in need. Being around this has impacted me in a positive way and has encouraged me to assist in a society in which individuals work together. It all started when I was in kindergarten and my mother signed me up for girl scouts. Not only was I deeply involved in girl scouts, but my mother was the leader of both my older sister and my troops. Girl Scouts is a program that promotes youth to be involved in outdoor activities and endorses service to the community.
I have led and participated in community events that give me a perspective of others, an increased awareness of community and has shaped the person that I am. At Thanksgiving, I led my high school student body, through fundraisers to create nutritional no cost food baskets for local families, where over 100 baskets were distributed. I also led a competition between homerooms to raise funds for Christmas gifts for local children affected by hardship. My work with the American Red Cross has resulted in quarterly high school blood drives which netted nearly 1000 pints of blood for the Central Oregon area. I involve myself in these types of activities because I can see the positive impacts in my community.
In addition to competitions in Future Business Leaders of America, there are also competitions in band. These competitions include district solo and ensemble, state solo and ensemble, state large ensemble, and competitive marching events. Most of the community service projects or school activities that I have planned and organized have been due to the fact that I am an officer and committee head for each of the organizations. Some examples of these service projects and activities include: Adopt a Child, where the committee organized an event where local high school students were able to “adopt” a less fortunate child and give them gifts for the Christmas Holiday; the Tree of Warmth, where as a committee we decorate a Christmas Tree and have students donate hats, gloves and scarfs to give to less fortunate children; a Christmas Pajama donation, for students to bring in new pajamas to give to children in Children’s Mercy Hospital to wear on Christmas Eve and Day. These are just a few of the many community service projects that I have taken part in during my high school career.
