Prompt 1: Personal Statement I am sincerely honored and excited to be considered for membership in the National Honor Society (NHS). I believe NHS’s ideals are qualities needed to succeed in both high school and in life. I have learned in order to maximize my personal growth, it is important to dedicate myself to, not only grades, but to leadership, service, and community. Other qualities I utilize daily are respect and humility towards others and towards myself. Prioritizing is paramount to be well-rounded as I balance high honors, varsity team sports, work and community service. These attributes have helped lead me to my academic achievements and service to others. I believe that my character is defined by these qualities which is what is ultimately presented to others and the community through my attitude and actions. I have learned that delayed gratification is a product of self discipline and dedication. I value challenges and realize life is a marathon, not a sprit. High school life is the same way; academically you have to be disciplined to remain on task focus and dedicated to ensure the time to study to improve your skills. Humility is important because it motivates me to look for ways to improve, and accept that I will always have more to learn. I have completed seventy hours of volunteering before the beginning of my junior year. My fifty hours of service at the Shapleigh Community Library has shown me that mutual respect and humility for different age groups creates a positive working environment. As a ski school instructor at Mount Cranmore working with young skiers, I learned the power of patience and humor while maintaining safety. Mount Cranmore has invited me back to work this winter
As an immigrant who has worked diligently to improve my quality of life, each pillar of the National Honor Society has contributed to my development and success. As a first generation American and future college student, I want to use the lessons I have learned from NHS to make my parents proud, honor their sacrifices, and revere the country that has given me the chance to improve my life. Service has not only humbled and matured me as I have worked at a children’s summer camp for five summers and have led church small groups, but has also helped me realize what I want to do with my life. When I was chosen by my teachers to apply to be a member of National Honor Society, I was very honored. This honor is very dear to me and is further validation that I have demonstrated my willingness to work hard, help others and be a contributing member of society. I believe that I possess the qualities to be an asset to this organization because of my hard work, morals, respect, academic excellence, leadership and service to the community. These qualities have been noticed by the teachers around me and I thank my parents for instilling these attributes in me at such a young age. My academic achievements have not always been easy for me.
When I think of humility and what it means, I think someone who is respectful towards others who is humble, kind and puts everyone else’s need above their own. Someone with this trait would push aside whatever they might be doing at the time and see to that the others need. To be humble you do not rub in others faces when you have something or do good, but rather be kind and respectful as they might not have the same chances as you. For me this would be when I help out at the soup kitchen in Camden with Chef S. or when i help out in my church with the children's ministry. It is important to me to help those in need as the to deserve to be happy like me.
The first of my short-term goals is to graduate high school as a participant in the National Honor Society. The National Honor Society is a program high school students apply for and if they are accepted, gain multiple benefits from. Accepted students must have have high GPAs, multiple hours of community service, be considered strong leaders within their community and by their peers, and be of good character. It is my goal to become a member of this program because not only does it help with college applications, but it also challenges me to improve my strengths and weaknesses. More specifically, I’m wanting to it to push me to be more involved in the community resulting in improved leadership skills.
My Values of becoming a part of the NJHS I am Lauren Forsyth and a student of Catonsville Middle School. I feel that I should be a part of National Junior Honor Society because of my dedication towards volunteering, leadership and citizenship. The following essay will demonstrate how I have dedicated my time towards volunteering, leadership and citizenship. As of 2016, I have dedicated myself to 47 hours of service learning and giving back to my community is a very important part of my life. In 6th grade I created a fundraiser to help breast cancer awareness to help find a cure for breast cancer and I had earned 5 service learning hours with two hundred dollars raised in total at my school.
I would be honored to be able to contribute to the National Honor Society if given the chance to take part in such a prestigious organization. Ever since I was in elementary school, I have driven myself to achieve knowledge with all the effort that I could muster. This drive is why I want to be a member of the National Honor Society; I believe that the organization will help to encourage my desire for scholarship by developing my leadership skills. I yearn to have a more positive impact on the people in my life, in my community, and in society in general. I believe that the organization will provide me with a better chance to achieve that goal by presenting me with more opportunities to help out in the school and community.
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. National Honor Society (NHS) is “the nation's premiere organization to recognize outstanding high school students.” NHS “honors students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and character.” Within my three years of high school I have began to develop these traits, and NHS can help me by expanding my leadership skills, enhancing my character, providing me more scholarship opportunities, and increasing my service hours. There are so many different factors that make up a person's character. Moral and ethical quality is one of my strongest characteristics that make up my character.

When I first learned that I could potentially become a member of the National Honor Society, I wanted to achieve to become a member. I know this organization does great deeds for the community all around the world; I would definitely take pride to be in the organization that ensures that a difference will be made. I would also like to generate a difference in my generation along with others. National Honor Society always recognizes students that are exemplary in and outside of school. For instance, my GPA is 3.9 as my grades are my top priority in school and that is what colleges will be looking at along with other criteria’s.

I have excelled tremendously in my academics. I am 26 in my graduating class of 437. I also have maintained over a 4.0 GPA my entire high school career Specifically, I have excelled in my math and science classes. I have a natural love for numbers and math which helped with my success. I also loved science because there was always something new to learn and observe and there constantly were things being discovered.
