In P5 of my work I am going to outline and discuss the strategies and procedures used in health and social care to reduce the risk of abuse.The aim of the independent safeguarding Authority (ISA) was established under the Safeguarding Groups Act 2006 to protect children and vulnerable adult to those who might abuse them. The strategy in order to achieve this is through mentoring people who seek access through their work, paid, unpaid and voluntary. As they have to be registered under the vetting and barring scheme and will be checked against one of two barred list.

The organisation must be aware of all of the recent changes in order for the health care provisions to provide the best quality of care. The organisations employ managers who have the duty to ensure that all of the policies are adhered too, staffs are trained on a regular basis and that the improvement of care should be monitored after the training is provided. Health and social care provisions must have polices in place to deal with all forms of bullying or harassment. In accordance with the law if this occurs within the provision it can be dealt with by legislation, as laws are enforced to prevent bullying/harassment from happening. However, the health and social care establishment should still be able to effectively deal with cases like these.
Down syndrome is a condition which extra genetic material slows down the way in which an individual develops, both physically and mentally. As stated by the NHS; each individual with down syndrome is affected differently and can vary, some may need a lot of medical assistance whereas others may lead a normal healthy lifestyle but share similar characteristics. Delayed development: All service users with down syndrome has some degree of learning difficulty and delayed development, however, this varies between each individual. Having down syndrome they may experience some health problems which may effect them in every day life. However yet again each individual is different some may have more health problems than others.
Katrina Swallow – Unit 307 – Promote person centred approaches in care settings 1.1: Person centred values must influence all aspects of health and adult care work to ensure that all staff are aware of what is right and wrong within their role. A person’s privacy and dignity must be respected at all times to ensure that a relationship of trust is built. A person must be respected to ensure that they feel heard, valued and listened to. Staff should be in partnership with not just each other, but also the individuals they are caring for and the people that they are liaising with to look after them. Residents should be given choices and these should be respected even if not agreed with, and a person’s basic human rights must ALWAYS be respected.
Safeguarding is protecting people's health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. Abuse comes in many forms, for example, physical, sexual, verbal, financial, emotional, discriminatory abuse and neglect and working in substance misuse it is important for me to protect individuals against safeguarding issues, such as blood borne viruses, drug awareness, drug dealing, sex working, domestic violence, neglect to others and self-neglect. I have worked with vulnerable adults, who are or may be in need of community care services due to mental or other disability, age or illness, and who are or may be unable to take care of themselves, or unable to protect themselves against significant harm or exploitation. Safeguarding adults involves protecting their rights to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. I have worked in partnership to prevent the risk of abuse or neglect and stopped it from happening.
P4- when looking at strategies and communication techniques used with different individuals with different needs whom need to overcome different challenges many aspects must be looked at. A challenge Patrick may face may be awareness and knowledge, he may face this as well as others. Patrick may be aware that he has HIV however he may not be aware how much this will effect him and he may not be aware how to deal with it as he may lack the knowledge. In order to overcome this Patrick could educate himself in depth on HIV, this will help him come to terms with it and will also help him to help others understand HIV. Task 2 7 / C.P6: Compare the influence of different health and safety laws or policies on health and social care practice in a selected setting There are several different health and safety laws and policies that vary between settings in health and social care aimed towards different legislations that must be followed, and have resulted in improvements in health and social care practice. It is important that these legislations are followed by service providers in order for them to promote safe practice and to fully understand their responsibilities under these legislations. Some of the legislations include the Health and Safety at Work Act etc 1974, the Data Protection Act 1998, the Care Act 2014, the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Equality Act 2010.
In the ever changing landscape of health and social care and children and young person’s settings there are many pieces of government legislation and regulatory framework that service providers and organisations must now comply with. For example Care Quality Commission (CQC) introduced the essential standards of quality and safety which are central to the workplace. Every staff member has responsibility for providing good quality social care. Social care governance is the process by which organisations ensure good service delivery and promote good outcomes for people who use services.
Barriers in Health and Social Care: The barriers in health and social care are physical barriers, psychological barriers, financial barriers, geographical barriers, cultural/language barriers and resource barriers. Physical barrier Physical barrier are objects that prevent an individual from getting to their destination. For example, a wheelchair user is unable to enter a building because there are steps so they can’t get through the entrance.

Introduction Primary care is said to be the “first point of contact” for people when accessing the health care system in Ireland (Department of health and children 2001). The World health organisation(1978) outline that one of the main roles of primary health care is to provide access to care for the most vulnerable but also to identify and rectify the factors which lead to their early mortality. The Alma Ata declaration (1978) was a huge milestone in the development of primary care and they explain how essential it is for all populations’ health. Unfortunately the vulnerable populations in Ireland suffer the effects of the social determinates and also the health inequalities and die younger because they put up with a healthcare system which “places lesser value on the lives of those with lesser means” (Wren 2002).
