On December 7, 1941 the japanese made a surprise attack on the US naval base in Hawaii, which caused the US to enter into WWII. Shortly after Pearl Harbor, the japanese had been taking island by island. So the US used code breakers to find out about japan invasion. On the other hand, the United States lost 188 planes, 21 ships, 2,390 servicemen.

Kennedy would decide to place the Japanese Americans, living in the country at the time, in internment camps.
