Personal Narrative: Coming Back To Texas Tech University

I know that this event occurred 9 years ago, but I had to overcome some blinding obstacles and figure out what I was passionate about in life. Going to college straight out of high school was to chase a baseball dream and not an educational one. I wasted three years of a chance at an education by only worrying about baseball. After that, I chased money in the oilfield for four years and was eventually laid off. Being laid off was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

Upon arriving to Miami Dade College, you will never imagine all the resources offered to students to succeed during their scholastic years. I’ve been lucky enough to been advised by some of the best staff at their Interamerican campus. From their advisement office to their profoundly knowledgeable professors. As a current student of ENC1102, we were required to attend one section with a tutor at the writing center. I always thought I had sufficient knowledge of the English language and taking time out of my busy schedule to attend a section with a tutor was absurd.

When I was was younger, I was a caterpillar crawling around trying to get through life, waiting to turn into the beautiful butterfly I know I could soon become. I made good decisions along with bad ones, saw the beauty in life as well as the unpleasant. I was like everyone else trying to be their own person, but now as I look at myself in the mirror I can finally see who I really am. I see myself as the beautiful butterfly I once dreamed of becoming, ready to fly down my own path. I have been in my chrysalis and I am finally out and ready to fly into my bright future.

I first started thinking about college seriously two years ago. Last year was when I first heard about your college, Dallas Baptist University. It sounded too good to be true. A college close to my home, I could drive home every other weekend. You have good programs and degrees based off of my career interests.

Now, my dad is a manager of Fairleigh Feed Yard and brings in a steady income. My mom is a substitute teacher and volunteers her time helping numerous people within the community. Through my parents struggles and learning from their past, I believe that I have a one-up from most other kids my age. Hearing stories about how my parents lived with mice to begin with, and seeing where they are now is so inspiring. For this reason, they are two of my biggest financial role-models and I am grateful to have a relationship with them to this extent.

The best part of this semester has been meeting new friends and people that aren’t mean and talk about you behind your back. Meeting mature individuals has defiantly made my experience here at Brevard College a positive on but I love how willing to help the professors are because I don’t dread going to class. It may not be my strongest subject but if you go talk to the teachers they are more than will to help out.

Growing up, my parents couldn 't always afford what I wanted, but I always had food and shelter. My dad’s family brought him to California chasing the American dream. He had to dropout of high school in order to help provide for his family due to economic problems. He was only sixteen having to work in the fields. My dad is currently working as a forklift driver for Driscoll’s where he has been working for over twenty-five years.

Helping out my mother with the bills, working full time and commuting to college, seemed like the destined plan for me after high school. Nonetheless, it came as a shock to everyone when I confessed, I had accepted my admission to Texas A&M. My family took it the worst at first, as it seemed if I wanted to run away from the responsibilities that had suffocated me up to the minute I pressed

At a very young age, I’ve always been interested in helping and teaching others the power of knowledge. It mostly stems from the knowledge I was taught by my loved ones. Being the youngest in my family. There was always someone looking out for me and always tending to my needs. That someone was my magnificent mother, Tonya Hunt.

Something such as returning back to school was long gone and in my past goals. After a couple of years I never thought I would end up going back to school since everything that I wanted was going good and according to plan. However sometimes we are faced with tough situations where we must find other resources in order to improve and better ourselves. Going back to school was one of the most important and wise decisions that I have ever made. Finding well-qualified candidates for a job or career nowadays is a challenge, especially in the field that I am currently in; law enforcement.

My mother entered my bedroom and immediately her face widened in absolute shock. “What did you do?” I froze, panicked. I had been discovered. Twelve-year-old me was sitting on the bedroom floor when she had come in.

My journey consisted of many good and bad times, and throughout the years I discovered my strengths and weaknesses. I made new friends, took on different tests, accomplished many things. My first year was my most difficult, being new to the school, but as the years went by, school became a more fun experience for me. Knowing that the 4 years of high school was a journey for me, I was able to brace myself for the difficult times to come and the rewards I was going to receive. At the end of the journey, I had gained a lot from these 4 years, but it also prepared me for my next journey, my journey through university.

Tabor College is a four-year private Christian college in Hillsboro, Kansas. Tabor College is owned and operated by the Mennonite Brethren Church and follows the confession of faith of that church. Tabor College opened in 1908 of the Mennonite Brethren and Krimmer Mennonite Brethren faiths. Coming to Tabor College in August of 2015 have really opened up my eyes seeing so many people care for one another because in Dallas there is a lot of people and not many people care for another like the Tabor staff. Tabor College has made me a stronger believer in Christ and changed my lifestyle.

Next year at Embry-Riddle I plan start studying Cyber Intelligence and Security. Ever since middle school I knew I had a developing interest in the field of computer science and spent most of my time building the skills to excel in my classes. One of the first projects I got to use the computer on was a video for the Oregon Trail. I decided that it would be best to design an advertisement to showcase the facts in a new and creative way. When my group turned the project in, and it was shown to the class my teacher rewrote the assignment according to what we did and used it as an example of great work when recruiting new people.

Failing My first year of college at Maple woods I had decided that I wanted to go away for school which I thought staying at home was the problem. WRONG! So in the fall of 2014 I had packed my things and headed to Jefferson city, Mo where I had a new start at Lincoln University. I loved the school in every shape way or form. I tried to get myself involved so I joined the band so I can have something that could hold me accountable.
