I was so close, just a few feet behind the irritatingly bright mop of red hair. My whole body was so pumped on adrenaline that I couldn’t even feel my legs. Only the consciousness that they were moving, fast. My arms reached out in front of me, itching to get ahold of the fluorescent green ball that I have set my sights on. Just as I was about to overtake Preston, I lost control of my footing and plop! Down I went, humiliated, as the ball sped away in the opposite direction, my victory along with it.
The morning had started out absolutely fine. Everyone in Miss McKenzie’s fifth grade class was thrilled to see what Mrs. Orsillo had in store for our last PE class of our lower school careers. Mrs. Orsillo was a very solid lady, a stereotypical gym teacher, and not many people liked her ‘tough love’ style of teaching. I liked her though, because she wasn’t like the other PE

Girls, grab the jerseys, boys, other side.” She announced. We cheered as we scurried off to opposite ends of the makeshift gym that was shared with the cafeteria. The echo of lively chatter from the nearby lunch line gave the room a comfortable feeling and the Covenant Day School lion mascot was painted right in the middle of the gym floor, encouraging us to play our best. The game was surprisingly close , probably because the boys assumed they had it in the bag and their arrogance had made them sloppy. We were all doing our part on my team, especially defense, but our offence was lacking. Going out of my comfort zone, I decided to step up to the offensive side. If you have never played ultimate handball, the rules are simple. It’s basically basketball, but no dribbling and soccer goals instead of hoops. There wasn’t much going on in the game when I moved positions, it was just a larger scale version of hot potato. All of the sudden, Preston, redheaded, obnoxious, condescending Preston, snatched the innocent little ball right out of the
The 8th graders knew the game would be close after a narrow win previously at Green Co. Metcalfe started out hot outscoring Green 12-2 in the 1st quarter and powering the ball to the hole. However, the 2nd quarter was all Green Co. outscoring Metcalfe 16 - 2. The half-time score showed Metcalfe down 14 - 23. Rebounding was in favor of Green Co. with them pulling down 36 to Metcalfe’s 25.
Dunaway had drove the ball over the shortstop 's head and had rounded second, it had been a close play, so she slid into third. The umpire, strong and confident, stood up and called her out. Tears rushed down the young girl 's face, as the coach, coach Dalfino, yelled at her saying, “This is no circumstance to cry.” The athlete had walked off of the field, limping in pain. Seriena’s team had two games that day so, once the second
The day did improve, somewhat, as it went on and everyone was quickly enjoying themselves again as we attended the women’s Gopher game to watch my older cousin, Taylor, play. Throughout the game, I could still sense the agitation between Alex, my dad, I, as we covered up the awkward silences by burying our noses in our phones in between the periods. To end the afternoon on a high note, the Gophers played an outstanding game and beat Wisconsin in overtime. We all left the stadium in high spirits, reminiscing over the great plays and unforgettable overtime goal. At the same time, we were exhausted from a long day and ready to head home and watch the girl’s State Tournament championship game.
I could no longer hear Bryce, who remained right next to me. The crowd brought life, a new feeling of excitement and anticipation, never before seen or experienced at the freshman basketball level. Our coach called us into the locker room, but I could not hear him, for the crowd was too loud and excited for me to focus on anything but them. As a result, I just stood and stared, amazed like a kid at Christmas or family seeing a skyscraper in a big city for the first
As Miss Kosciusko’s Outstanding Teen people have questioned why a teenager is wearing a crown and a sash. The thing is people don’t realize that it’s not about the crown and the sash but it’s about serving the people and the community. I have received many opportunities to help within the counties I represent, I have learned to talk professionally, hold my body in a professional manner, and learn to promote my platform in the best way I see fit. I have had some weird encounters while volunteering at many places.
Throughout some point in our education, every student has gone through this dreaded moment. That moment where the screen is blank and there is nothing. When it is impossible to think of anything to put done. I, myself, have gone through writer’s block dozens of times. I think it was at its worst during my younger years.
Months later, the sting of losing still haunted us. Summer came and no one dared to speak of the game, yet you could tell it burned in the back of our minds as we pushed ourselves harder than ever before. Attitudes and efforts changed. There was a sense of urgency inside of every
Freshman year came along and I wanted to attend Sullivan High School. I wanted to come back to my hometown, I was just missing the people I started it all out with in the beginning. My dad and I had all of the paperwork finished already to go for me to attend Sullivan High School in August, but my mom refused and wouldn’t budge to let me go. She didn’t want me going to Sullivan, she wanted me to stay with all of my new friends I had made at Owensville. She thought my best bet would be to stay and proceed to go to OHS.
It was the last inning of the 2020 Jr baseball finals; the winner would be declared the champions of the west region of the United States of America. The opposing team was one point ahead and Augustin’s team had one player on first base and another on second. Augustin sat on the bench next to his two best friends, Susan and Sam. They sat there for a while waiting for their turn to bat and not before long their team had received a strikeout. The kid who stuck out was a scrawny kid with glass who looked as if he was going to cry under the pressure of the game.
Justin Case stood outside the Athletic Director’s office, bouncing on the balls of his feet with glee. He checked the corridors for teachers, and on finding none he quickly slipped into the gym and unfolded the letter the Athletic Director gave him, “Mr. Justin Case of class 2016 has been selected as the school representative to the Annual McDonald’s All-American game which will take place in Los Angeles on the second Saturday of August. He is requested to collect the required material from the faculty in-charge Mr. Bobby Valentino.” Coach Valentino wasn’t high up on his “favorites” list, but if a small conversation with him will be succeeded by his taking part in the biggest high school game of the year, then who’s complaining? He quickly folded the letter and put it into his pocket before checking what time
The booming sound of the buzzer finally called for the 12 athletes to line up on either side of the net. As soon as Casey stepped on the court, she felt a sickening feeling in her stomach and mind. What if they did not win, she thought. Casey rapidly let the idea leave her mind as she turned to her team and attempted to break the mood that hovered over the team like a thunderstorm with massive, treacherous clouds.
Breath was rushing out the kid who wore a Gray and blue uniform, the boy 's hair was black and poked straight up in twisted curls, he had brown eyes that looked like dirt, he was strong and athletic, his name was D’haquille Jones, and I was DhaQuille Jones, staring down at the newly glazed floorboards of John Pickett high school gym. The ref blew the whistle signaling that our time out was over, and all we had was thirteen precious seconds to beat the Valencia high. I jogged onto the court, adrenaline rushing through my body. The ref tossed the ball towards Chris, once he had found the open man he lobbed it over the oncoming defender. Calling for the ball I sprinted around my defender to get open.
"You can leave." Mrs. Godwin said to the now exited class. P.E. Class had just started, and the basketball team came in the gym to practice. They were making teams for lineball, when discovered they had an odd number of people. Coach Thrash asked if I could play with the red team, and I accepted his invitation.
I have been waiting since the start of summer for this day, the day to go against Topeka West the school that have been talking stuff for the longest. There was so much hype about this game and it was finally here, when the bell ringed at the end of the day i rushed out of class and got on the bus to head over to chandler our practice field. When we got there we all the football players loaded off the bus and when we got off there was a table of chips, water, gatorade,PB & J and fruit snacks so we didn’t play on an empty stomach. After we ate and got ready coach talk to us for a little bit and then we got on the bus to head to Hummer sports park, it was a loud bus
