“We all have to grow up sometimes” is a fairly common saying. While childhood is a wonderful time when responsibilities are minimal, there comes a point in time when that easy, carefree lifestyle confronts you with some adult responsibilities. Usually, at some point of your high school career, a part-time job becomes a necessity. The older you get, the quicker you realize your desire to have some spending money. My job at Modell’s Sporting Goods as a part-time cashier, has provided me with an opportunity to earn a salary as well as teach me some valuable life lessons, such as responsibility, dependability, and customer service skills to name a few. The first three years of my high school career, I was a three sport student athlete. I
Thesis: Part time jobs are beneficial to high school students if utilized correctly. Though part-time jobs can be beneficial for high school students- teaching them skills and providing work experience- not everyone thinks so. In his essay “Working at McDonald’s”, Amitai Etzioni explains to his readers why part time jobs in fast food restaurants and places equivalent to them are suboptimal for high school students. Firstly, he claims that there is no room for advancement on the career ladder at these part-time jobs, but this is not true.
Throughout high school, I have been involved in a great number of activities. These include athletics, clubs, and taking part in community service. I have played varsity field hockey my freshman, sophomore, and senior year of high school. I also played varsity lacrosse my freshman and sophomore year. The sport that I am most well known for is swimming, which I have participated in for all four years of high school.
Baseball is what many call “America’s Pastime”. It is the game that never fails to bring me from the highest highs to the lowest lows. The second that you think you are the best, the game will humble you. When you are at a loss for confidence, you will do something amazing that will turn your game around. Nothing beats the smell of the spring air, the dirty pants, the laughs with teammates and the glory of winning.
I’m glad I didn’t get a 4 year Varsity award for any of those sports because that’s not who I was, 3 is my number and always will
In my four years of high school, I have been very active in everything the school has to offer. I have filled up my after school hours playing sports, performing in plays and choral concerts, and working at the school to help teach the younger generations Language Arts. During my summers, I volunteer at summer school to assist in the math classes for middle school and high schoolers while I also have a job being a lifeguard. Basketball, softball, and golf are the sports that I’ve played over my high school career. I’ve participated in four years of basketball and softball, and three years in golf.
It was the end of my eighth grade year and I was playing junior high volleyball. In the past I always considered myself as an athlete either trying or playing every sport in the book. Did I enjoy playing sports? Sure it had it’s perks, but did I love it as much as making music? Not even close.
Everyone has a responsibility to do. However, for working student like me that having a part-time job while taking college courses is a big responsibility. I decided to go to school full-time and work part-time to learn to become independent. In the essay “Working at Wendy’s” by Joey Franklin, he makes a case for setting aside pride to provide the daily needs of a family. On the other hand, I think it was great to have the experience as long as it made me more money.
My body cried like a newborn babe, afraid in an unfamiliar place. Immediately, my fresh eyes were greeted by waves of black hair, friendly smiles, and the Japanese language. I had arrived in Japan. I did not know the language or the customs, but I dove right into the dark pool. I was determined not to let the unknown drown me.
I responded to Dollar General in Southland Village in reference to a shoplifting call. Upon arrival, I spoke with Charles Rodgers. Rodgers advised that he went to the post office on this date to pick up some Wish.com orders. Rodgers advised that he had approximetly 17-18 boxes. Rodgers advised that he walked in Dollar General around 22:00 and stayed in there for 10 minutes.
It was the last inning in our all-star game, and we were losing 10 to 8. Our team had 2 outs and we couldn’t get the third. Our pitcher was doing bad, throwing all balls, while all of us in the field were tired, ready to fall asleep at any moment. There goes another walk. They score again.
I became a CYO athlete when I was seven years old. The reason I joined track was because I was the fastest runner at my school and I wanted to join something at which I could excel. When I attended the first track meet with teams from across the diocese, it quickly became clear that I did not know anything about track meets and that I was not a fast runner. The competition was stiff and I realized that I was not the superstar that I had imagined myself to be.
I have participated in volleyball, basketball, track, and cheerleading. These activities have taught me teamwork, which will play an important role in the real world.
“Find your passion and make it happen” - Irene Cara “This one is an easy strikeout bud!” my dad would say. “Ball four! Batter take your walk” the umpire called out.
I’m involved with many sports outside of school. For example, I play Field Hockey, Lacrosse, and
My First Car The first I ever had was an old model of the brand Toyota. It was color blue and was second-hand so I got it at a cheaper price. For a second-hand car, it was in a really good condition.
