I implemented ones role as a nurse in ways that reflect integrity, responsibility, ethical practices & evolving identity as a nurse committed to caring, advocacy and quality while adhering to evidence based practice by treating all individuals with dignity and respect. For example, when I would tell the team members what treatments needed to be done I would tell them in a nice way and ask if they needed help.
I demonstrated appropriate written, verbal and non-verbal communication in a variety of clinical contexts by complete documentation according to agency guidelines by making sure all team members documented information correctly and appropriately so when others looked up the documentation they would understand. If I noticed something

For example, I don’t share information about residents outside of clinical. The sheet I used at clinical with the residents information about treatments I make sure to tear up and throw away so no health information can be disclosed.
1. My strong points during this week’s clinical experience was keeping myself together and not going crazy when I was team leader. The day I was team leader there was a lot going on and I felt like Tara and I kept everything under control very well and worked together. I was also proud of Becca and I noticing wheezing in lung sounds on a resident.
2. An area I can improve on is giving report to the nurse at the end of the shift. I felt like I didn’t know exactly what the nurse wanted to know and that the report could of gone a lot smoother.
3. My clinical goal for next week is to use different pain rating scales for my resident.
4. My plan to achieve my goal is to find a nurse on staff to gather information on the different scales and to try multiple ones that I could use on my resident to see which one she responds best
I communicated with the patient’s, my preceptor, other nurses, the PCT’s, PT, and the kitchen staff. When I was in the patient’s room I was sure to explain what I was doing, and answer any questions the patients had about their plan of care. I worked with my preceptor throughout the shift, asking questions, clarifying orders, clarifying medications, procedures and more. I communicated with other nurses by thoroughly receiving and handing off report. I communicated with the PCT’s that I would perform the vital signs for my patients and worked with the PCT when my patient needed labs to be sent down.
The Suicidal Risk Screening tool would have a great relevance in the counselling and community services sector, as it is often that clients seeking counselling may be struggling with depression or going through a difficult time in their lives. This tool has been developed as an information gathering source, to support and guide in the decision making about the current level of risk of suicide and is to be used by a clinician. It is important that the clinician using the tool and completing the assessment is able to describe their confidence when giving a risk factor level rating. Clinicians must consider the weight of situation, understanding that it is a serious, heavy, and sensitive conversation to conduct, and must present
It is vital to put the patient at the midpoint of their own concern. Bedside reporting motivates staff responsibility and working as a group. Using a harmonized device will keep reports reliable and make sure all relevant information
During a clinical shift, I would be responsible for providing care to patients with malignant hematological diseases, completing pertinent assessments and teaching skills, such as how to care for the mouth when experiencing mucositis and how to avoid infections. Self-reflection on Professional Practice All nurses registered in the general and extended classes are required to complete their self-Assessment every year. Self-Assessment is a self-directed, two-part process that results in a learning plan (CNO self assessment 2018). Through the process of self-assessment, you identify your areas of strength and learning needs (CNO
Nursing is an age old profession of compassion, encouragement, and support to the injured. With the development of learned abilities nurses are able to heal by easing suffering, treatment, and encouragement of the care of people, families, communities, and populations. Professional nursing roles entail practices based on evidence that are defensive, recuperative, and promotive when focusing on a holistic manner. Developing professional roles of nurses are highly recognized and nurtured. A nurse plays an essential role in the healthcare system.
This learning actively greatly assisted in building my confidence, which I required in order to be successful in the new graduate RN role. Good collaborative working relationships are based on clear communication and collaboration with the patient and all members of the healthcare team. (Kieft, et al. 2014 ) This semester I had no issues with regards to speaking with physicians and other members of the healthcare team, and I continued to actively participated and contributed to daily rounds on all 3 critical care units.
Being a nurse, comes a great reward and unlimited enhancement of career ladders and promotion. An organizations true values to their nurses is that they encourage everyone to expand their skills and capabilities. One example is encouraging to be a resource nurse. An interview of a resource nurse, where she elaborated the meaning of being a professional nurse, an advocate for patients and families, and steward of the health care system. What is your role as a health care team member?
I discovered the importance of empathy and understanding as the patients were very frightened and by listening to them, I found I was able to put their mind at ease and give them a more positive medical experience. I was able to speak to both the surgeon and anaesthetist and learnt the immense commitment involved however being able to improve lives was rewarding. I established that nurses play a soothing role for the patient in their whole journey and found their
Lastly, as I work with patients, families, and members of my community, I will strive to uphold all ethical standards and treat everyone with respect and dignity, in addition to being culturally sensitive and embracive of
During my course with NSCC, where I am studying to become a Continuing Care Assistant. Each student is required to work in a continuing care facility alongside other health care providers for a month. I attended skills development placement at Harbour View Lodge located in Sheet Harbour. This placement has given me the opportunity to apply my knowledge, and skills that I have studied and practiced in the classroom. When entering the facility the first week I felt nervous and excited at the same time.
I was able to create better therapeutic communication skills, pick up on the patient’s ticks, learn how to assess for triggers, etc. I will use this in the future because I will come in contact with patients who suffer from a mental illness on any floor I work on. They may not as serious as some of the patients I worked with on this clinical rotation, however, it is still important, as a nurse, to recognize and address mental health issues with patients. I also learned just how important self-care for nurses is. It doesn’t take long for nurses to begin to feel burnt out and lose passion in what they do.
Providing care to a patient is a particularly challenging process that requires a great deal of effort from a nurse. A nurse’s ability to give quality care to their patient is an important aspect to a patient’s life both now and in the future. As such, nurses must exhibit specific qualities in their practice in order to maintain the best standard of care for their patients. Given this, I believe that the standards of knowledge, advocacy, and self-awareness are foundational to the nursing practice and to a nurse’s capacity to provide quality patient care. Knowledge
There is a well told saying that you have a great opportunity to make an initial impression with your writing. From individual connections to business gatherings, we are taught that individuals' structure feelings with us in no time flat, and that we ought to be prepared to demonstrate our best at all times. Each one of us has our own particular style of interacting with others whether it be in writing or face to face communication. In the past, I have severed in leadership roles in which I had people following me.
I can consider my professional development experience in two parts: Before I became a teacher and after I became a teacher. During my teacher education at university I used to imagine myself as the teacher of that lesson and I used to try to draw some tips for my future job. I observed my teachers’ way of teaching, their rapport with students and their reactions. I always commented on why or why not they behave in that specific way and search for examples to be applied in my future job as a teacher. I believe that these observations provided me with some valuable and conclusive clues for my job.
Last semester was composed of a critical care lecture class and two clinical courses, which were mental health and community. I try my best to be open-minded and willing to make every new experience a learning opportunity. For my community clinical we were placed at an assisted living center. For our first few meetings I could tell that the group’s overall impression of our placement was not favorable. At first the feelings about our clinical were not spoken outright and could be seen as withdrawal.
