Every day nearly 125,000 babies are killed worldwide from abortion. Abortion is sweeping the nation as an easy solution to accidental or unwanted pregnancies. This procedure is often presented as harmless to mothers, but in reality, it is taking a child’s life from them. Injuring a baby after it is born is considered a heinous act, why is killing a child not considered a crime before the child is born?
There are multiple reasons women may want an abortion. The pregnancy could be unexpected by the parents, the mother cannot afford it or the pregnancy was a result of sexual assault. For these situations and many others, abortion is viewed as the fast, painless and simple solution to the ‘problem’. Abortion is the opposite of the easy way out.
Abortion has always been a controversial topic, and with debates from the recent presidential election bringing abortion back into the spotlight, it is clear that people have varying views as well as a great misunderstanding of abortion. Often, the morality of such action is widely discussed, and stones are quickly thrown. I believe that abortion should be legally and safely obtainable in all cases for women who feel it is the best path to take in their pregnancy. While abortion is currently legal in all 50 states, some lawmakers are working to make abortions virtually unobtainable. For example, in Ohio, a heartbeat bill sat on the desk of Governor Kasich.
What if a person was put in a situation that could cause them overwhelming stress they might not be able to handle? Women are put in this situation all the time. There are a variety of challenges a woman faces while being pregnant. A woman could face emotional concerns, overwhelming fear, loss of job, or loss of her own life. While an abortion can bring stress a woman should still be given the choice.
The five most common reasons consist of the following: contraceptive failure, inability to support a child, ending unwanted pregnancies, to prevent a child being born with severe defects or medical problems, and if rape or incest occurred. “Over half of all women who have an abortion used a contraceptive method during the month they became pregnant” (ProCon). Unfortunately, birth control is not 100% effective, therefore some women will become pregnant while they are using their contraceptives. “A woman has the right to use birth control and have an abortion because the pregnancy affects her body and her body only” (Sanger 9). If a woman does not wish to carry a baby inside of her for nine months out of the year, she should not have to.
The primary argument against abortion is the fact that it is taking the life of an innocent child. People often justify abortion by arguing that the fetus is not alive, thus it cannot be “killed.” Yet in most states, if a pregnant woman is murdered, the killer is charged with a double homicide. Scott Gilbert, in his book Bioethics and the New Embryology: Springboards for Debate, states that “The entity created by fertilization is indeed a human embryo, and it has the potential to be human adult. Whether these facts are enough to accord it personhood is a question influenced by opinion, philosophy, and theology, rather than by science” (43).
Firstly, some woman may be victims of rape at any time. This is one the biggest reasons why abortion is considered normal and the solution for such a problem. A lot of woman have faced rape and could not accept the fact of becoming pregnant in this way. The woman may find it very hard to raise a baby born in these circumstances with no legal marriage and no father to take care of the child.
Abortion is one of the biggest controversial in the world. So many people have different reasons to get a abortion. Everyone has there own opinion about it. The reason people don't like abortions is because you kill a child. There are people out there that wants to have kids and they can't.
While in rare cases this is okay, it is still wrong to take the life of another human being. Even though it may not look lkie a child, it still has a right to life. The mere thought of having an abortion is both grisly and unsettling. Another twisted piece to this puzzle is that most of the time all of the fetuses and baby parts are either sold on the black market or are donated to science. Believe it or not" scientists actually use baby matter to test its reaction towards different chemicals and medications.
Abortion is one of the most divisive issues faced in the U.S. Abortion should be women choice. Women should be comfortable talking about abortion with everyone and not be judged. Many assume abortion is not bad, because abortion can make things better and not over stressed full. It's a choice and depends on various situations. It is a women’s right to decide what is best for their body.
Abortions are done for many different reasons, including not wanting a child in the first place, not wanting the burden of a mentally challenged child, inability to afford to keep one, and it is also used as a form of contraception in some cases. In the United States, about 1.2 million abortions are performed each year. 9 out of 10 abortions are usually done within the first trimester (Webmd.com). There have been many debates and cases against or for abortion, like Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, and the Hyde Amendment of 1976 (UShistory.org). The topic of abortion has been and still is discussed by feminist and religious groups and other people on whether or not it should be legal, and if it is a matter of whether a woman has the right to her own body.
having an abortion can really scar women mentally and emotionally. When the woman has an abortion they are basically killing their own child. Do you think the mother can live with that? Many women just think that they can just have an abortion if they get pregnant, but some of them don 't think about how hard it is at the moment. Gary Bauer said “A 2009 poll found that of people who knew a woman who had had an abortion, 55 percent said her abortion was a negative experience, and only 33 percent a positive experience.”
Abortion takes away the right to life that intended for all human beings from the unborn. Some people would say there might be some circumstances in which a baby would affect the mother’s life if she is not ready for; therefore, it is a right should be legal. However, as long as abortion is a murder, it cannot be a women’s right. Abortion is not only immoral and unethical; it is dangerous for both the fetus and the mother - either physically and mentally.
Abortion has been a widely talked about issue in the United States for quite some time now. Some think that abortion is a woman’s choice because it is her body, and some think that abortion is murder and should be illegal, but does anyone ever stop to think about the teenagers who are going through the abortion process? Abortion is mainly seen as an adult issue, but, “in 2015 alone, 229,715 babies were born to women ages 15-19 years old in the United States.” (Paige Landau and Willow Mason, “Educational Support for Teenage Mothers”, NASP, December 1, 2017)
Since almost the beginning of the development of law and government women has had the right to an abortion. Now days more drug addicted women pregnant seem to not be utilizing their right to an abortion and some are choosing to go through the entire 9 months if they can make it. If this happens it is expected that before, during and after pregnancy the baby will suffer even as a fetus. Before birth it could be problems such as “placenta problems, premature labor issues, miscarriages, or the baby can even be stillborn”. After birth it can be issues with the baby such as low birth weight, heart problems, birth defects, infections like “HIV or Hep C, neonatal syndrome, behavior issues, mental health issues or even sudden infant death syndrome” (Street drugs and pregnancy, n.d.).
Abortion: a choice or murder? Although, a lot of people, especially the religious ones may be quick to conclude that abortion is essentially same with murder as both involves taking someone else’s life. the effect of this kind of conclusion is that it makes abortion a criminal offence just like murder. However, it may be worth a while to review the meaning of murder.
Sadly, this right is violated when performing abortion. People who support abortion say that the fetus in the womb is not considered a human being yet, so it does not kill or harm anyone. “In fact, unborn babies probably feel pain more intensely than adults. This is a uniquely vulnerable time since the pain system is fully established, yet the higher level pain-modifying system has barely begun to develop.” (Ranalli) The babies inside the womb feel pain, they are no different than an already born baby or an adult.
