Safe work practices are generally written methods that characterize how tasks are performed while minimizing risks to people, equipment, materials, environment, and processes. Safe Work Procedures are recorded procedures for performing tasks. The purpose of a safe work procedure is to reduce the hazard to health and safety in the workplace and reduce the likelihood of an injury by ensuring that employees know how to work safely when carrying out the tasks involved in their occupations.

This training program is intended to give the framework and tools each facility needs to consider for their program. Essential instruction about safe work including signs and common symptoms of musculoskeletal injury, risk factors, ergonomics and body mechanics and general injury prevention strategies. Worker training and assessment in center skills, for example, body mechanics. Worker training on job specific tasks, equipment and safe work procedures. Applying general safety principles such as legitimate work practices, equipment, and controls can help reduce workplace accidents involving the moving, handling, and storing of materials. Regardless of whether moving materials physically or mechanically, your employees should know and comprehend the potential hazards associated with the job that needs to be done and how to control their workplaces to minimize the danger. Since various injuries can result from improperly handling and storing materials, workers should also be aware of accidents that may result from the unsafe or improper handling of equipment as well as from improper work practices. 7 / D.P7: Explain how different procedures maintain health and safety in a selected health or social care setting Maintaining health and safety in health and social care is extremely important to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all their service users as well as other individuals service providers may come in contact with in the setting. There are several procedures that help to maintain this health and safety however they can all vary between settings for example, health and safety procedures will be slightly different and more focused on certain areas in hospitals and especially in paediatric ward compared to in drop-in centres where the needs and risk to service users are slightly different. Some of the procedures used in health and social care to maintain health and safety include; infection control and prevention, safe moving and handling of equipment and individuals, food preparation and storage, storage and administration of medication and storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
OSHA protects employees from dangerous situations. Under the OSH Act, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace. OSHA 's mission is to assure safe and healthful workplaces by setting and enforcing standards, and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance. Employers must comply with all applicable OSHA standards. Employers must also comply with the General Duty Clause of the OSH Act, which requires employers to keep their workplace free of serious recognized hazards (osha.gov).
There are many ways to prevent workplace head injuries. The employee must know their rights of the workplace. The worker must work on safe machines and wear safe personal protective equipment. The worker must also report all workplace injuries without being scared of retaliation. (Osha) OSHA is Occupational Safety and Health Administration and they create safe and healthful working conditions for men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance.
Task 2 7 / C.P6: Compare the influence of different health and safety laws or policies on health and social care practice in a selected setting There are several different health and safety laws and policies that vary between settings in health and social care aimed towards different legislations that must be followed, and have resulted in improvements in health and social care practice. It is important that these legislations are followed by service providers in order for them to promote safe practice and to fully understand their responsibilities under these legislations. Some of the legislations include the Health and Safety at Work Act etc 1974, the Data Protection Act 1998, the Care Act 2014, the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Equality Act 2010.
Use work practices that make environments safe for all. A. I'd take note of my own cultural practices and individual behaviour and how this might impact other people around me. I would understand and acknowledge their diverse cultures and what is important to them. I would take initiative to create cultural safety and open to direct and indirect feedback from my co-workers ect. 3.
Competency Statement I To establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment. My goal in a child care facility would be to make sure everything is safe for the children along with the staff who would work there. To make sure that the children would want to come back and feel safe at the facility. I would want everything to be healthy for the children as well as the staff also. No one would want their children to come to an unhealthy facility.
To prevent possible abuse from those working directly with children and to prevent allegations of abuse it is important to adopt good working practices. These help young children to get a feel of what is appropriate and may help them to respond if another adult behaves differently. The basis of safe working practice is openness so that other adults in the setting can either see or know what you are doing when you are with the children.

Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 These Act inform practices that all staff the responsibility to keep themselves and other around them safe through their actions at work and they must to report any health and safety problems. Also, all staff must to follow policies and procedure when hand handing equipment and they should to work in way that puts other around them in danger. Control of substances and Hazardous to Health Regulations 1992 These regulations inform practices that cleaning materials must to be kept in a locked cupboard. Also, these regulation state that disposable gloves and aprons must to be provided for cleaning and handing chemicals.
U1 AC 2.1 - Explain ways to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment. A number of ways to establish a safe and supportive learning environment is to stay within what is deemed as conventional rules and disciplines. A typical class room layout is rows of desks and chairs facing the front, it is the usual expected layout for learners and encourages them to accept conformity, something as simple as sitting on the chairs facing the front of the classroom is reassuring to the majority that the class is safe. In days of yesteryear the students would be expected to stand up when the teacher entered the room and wait for permission to be seated, thankfully those days are in the distant past and now it is acceptable to remain talking until the teacher is ready to begin class.
