Reflect on your Pre-Practicum/Service-Learning Journal; compare and contrast how your beliefs, assumptions, and attitudes regarding community service and/or volunteerism have evolved.
Looking back on what I experienced and learned at the Public Health Department, I now have a greater appreciation for what the is offered to the community. I did believe that this care was for the lower class of individuals in my community, but, this is primarily high-quality care for anyone who comes through the Health Department, with no issue for race, color of ethic background. I am thankful the government has these resources set in place for people in the community to allow people the opportunity for affordable care. I think in terms with knowing how to

With service to the people in our community we define and practice the kind of person we want to become, and this reflection people will see the good in people naturally. I want to educate staff when someone has a reportable disease it should be reported to Infection Control Nurse, I want to teach nursing staff some of our patients who do not have insurance please send then to the Health Department, it is based on income, and that is for anyone who lives in the community. I would recommend anyone who plans to prepare for a family go to the Health Department for maternal planning the care is exceptional, and every child should have to go through the health department, their examinations is outstanding. It taught me insight of the history of Public health nursing on how far we have conquered obstacles and learned to use critical thinking to adjust to events or situations. The nursing profession is changing so fast and we must go further beyond our means of education to continue to grow as leaders in our community. Everything is changing so as nurse leaders we must change with this new era of health to live up to the expectation for the good of
The final and the important step of Kotter’s change process is to institutionalize the new approach, and establish the new change as an organizational culture (Gaudine & Lamb,2015). The change is communicated to everyone in the organization. The leader can incorporate the new change in the training, orientation, and in-service education (Small, et al., 2016). The nurse leader should include the change in the policy and standard to make it permanent and available to everyone in the
(2008). I would like to challenges Chief Nurse Executives (CNEs) to lead the journey and highlights how patients, their families, and health care organizations would benefit immeasurably if CNEs stepped forward and accepted this leadership role, then and only then can the best practice changes begin to improve what we as nurses already know. The processes of leading are intended to enable more people to develop into leaders and more people to share the roles of leading, to enhance the quality and safety of patient care (Stone P. Hughes R, Dailey M.
Good evening. I would like to start by sharing a quote from an unknown author: Being a nurse isn’t about grades, it’s about being who we are. No book can teach you how to cry with a patient. No class can teach you how to tell their family that their parent has died or is dying. No professor can teach you how to find dignity in giving someone a bed bath.
Nurse Leadership Strategies to Facilitate Change during Informatics Initiatives Transformation Innovative changes are occurring in nursing practice due to the implementation of technology. Through the Summer Urban Health Fellowship, I will be able to understand the health disparities within communities allowing me to help my community medically one day to the best of my abilities. I want to gain new knowledge of the health disparities communities like where I come from, face. Currently, I am taking a class on the health in the Latino/Chicano population. This class has broadened my horizons. It has exposed me to how things such as race, social class, income, access to resources, environment, and many other things has an outstanding impact on the quality and quantity of health care they receive.
Being a nurse, comes a great reward and unlimited enhancement of career ladders and promotion. An organizations true values to their nurses is that they encourage everyone to expand their skills and capabilities. One example is encouraging to be a resource nurse. An interview of a resource nurse, where she elaborated the meaning of being a professional nurse, an advocate for patients and families, and steward of the health care system. What is your role as a health care team member?
My goals for this course is to gain a better understanding regarding health care initiatives and health promotion. Take the practical information, tools and incorporate into everyday practice. Since I have been working associate degree nurse (ADN) for 21 years. The topic for my first paper was "Why BSN are better nurses than ADN nurse" my first thought is their not. I took away after research that ADN focuses more on the task at hand and BSN have a better understanding of theory and
Transformational leaders, who empower nurses to advocate, understand that communication and professional collaboration are the core ingredients to foster safe nursing care and to collectively advocate for improved health care policies. Of interest, due to communication and collaborative efforts among state hospital associations and the ANA along with the state nurses associations, seven states have enacted safe staffing legislation using the Registered Nurses Safe Staffing Act’s committee approach (ANA, n.d.). Conclusion The essence of an effective nurse leader lies in the ability to inspire and motivate others to action, which begins with communication and professional collaboration skills.
On this day October 24th, 2016 many events happened at Jessie Trice Community Health Center (JTCHC). As usual, I was exactly on time to start my clinical rotation at 8 am. My rounds were made in the clinic looking for something out of place and improvise with my assistance. A morning huddle was hold at the nursing station. Everyone met to listen to the points Joel Polanco, RN would present.
As we transition into the new role of NPs, our scope of practice expands. Moreover, as our responsibilities increase, we later become policy makers, and develop autonomy and decision–making skills. NPs are responsible for providing safe nursing care with more specialized knowledge and advanced education. We are also responsible for pursuing continuing education and advanced knowledge to remain competent quality providers, and meet the needs of the community. With our acquired repertoire of skills, it is essential that we utilize them to make informed decisions and collaborate with our community to promote wellness and healthy living.
As there continues to be an initiative to improve quality healthcare while simultaneously reducing costs, the importance of the nurse with advanced education in transforming healthcare delivery and healthcare policy will continue to grow. Opportunities for nurse managed health clinics, quality nursing research to improve evidence based practice, leadership of multidisciplinary health management teams and change agents in health policy and improved patient outcomes make the nurse with advanced education the “escape fire” in health care now and in the
Reflection The experience of interning for the Blue Zones Project has been amazing and inspiring. At first I was nervous and shy not knowing what I was in for, but as I continued with my internship I grew more confident and gained more knowledge. The Blue Zones Project is a company helping to transform different communities into a healthier lifestyle to allow people to live longer.
1. Discuss your volunteer efforts (2hrs minimum) and how your leadership philosophy is evolving. Some people in today's society can be very self-absorbed and lack compassion concerning the health and well-being of others. They typically feel that community service and outreach has no benefits because you dedicate so much time, effort and work and without receiving anything in return. However, its greatest reward is knowing that somebody else has benefited from my actions, and that is payment enough.
While doing this assignment, I joined the Human Service Student Organization (HSSO). HSSO has regular meeting, which are usually held in Warf-Pickel. According to the website, “The Human Service Student Organization is a platform to congregate and educate students on topics relative to the helping profession.” While being apart of this organization, many individuals will participate in many activities, such as volunteering throughout the community. Some of the activities are helping the homeless in the community, volunteering at the One Acre Café, and participating in community outreach.
There is no doubt that the presence of evolution exists among the nursing profession. Likewise, the definition of leadership takes a similar course captivating different meaning to everyone as a complex concept in a global arena (Northouse, 2013). Powered by evidenced-based research, legislation, and the dynamic health care delivery system of our country; effective nursing leadership must maintain the equivalent path of these driving agents. Northouse (2013) explains leadership as a process that involves influencing groups to reach a common goal that combat workplace obstacles, hazards, and behaviors. In addition, evolution of the nurse leader (NL) role, as a specialty advanced nurse practice, infiltrates health care delivery with a worldwide
