The classroom that I will be observing is a Preschool classroom at KinderCare Learning Center in Bartlett, Illinois. The teacher I will be observing over the next period of time is Laura Sturgulewski. She has worked at KinderCare for 8 years, mostly in the 2 year-old room until fall of 2013, when she took the lead teaching position of the Preschool classroom. Her classroom mainly has 3 year-olds, but on occasion has a mix of 4 year-olds and transitioning 2 year-olds. The number of students in her class depends on the day, because they are a child care center some students have a part time schedule, unlike an elementary school where children attend every day. Ms. Laura has 21 children currently enrolled in her classroom, 11 boys and 10 …show more content…
I think that the physical environment can play a major role in a child’s learning. If the classroom is very closed off and blocked the children will not feel free to explore their surrounding and become more independent. Ms. Laura’s classroom is very open and spaced out, even though the center itself is built with an open concept and only having half walls to divide the classrooms. She has organized the room in such a way that every though the different centers are clearly laid out, it’s not in such a way that makes them feel enclosed and blocked off from the rest of the room. The environment offers children a variety of different choices all in one area, all of the math, science, and table toys are together, so that a child does not have to search the entire room for something that they are looking for. Ms. Laura also encourages these choices by letting the students pick some of the centers in the morning, she will usually have 2-3 set centers and then give a child or two the option of picking a center. The room arrangement supports children, because she has quiet activities next to quiet activities, so if a child is trying to read a book they don’t have blocks in the same area. She also made sure to be aware of different family’s cultures, by labeling items in different languages and making sure when you look around the room there
In Infant and Toddler Practicum, I am observing at the Hannibal Children’s Center in Hannibal, Mo. At the Hannibal Children’s Center I am currently in the Journey A room, which is a toddler room. In this room, the toddlers ages range from one to two. The teacher in the toddler room while I am there is Dana. In the Journey room, there is always two teachers in the room, unless there are four children. There is at least one teacher that is the head teacher in the room when there are two teachers in there.
At the time of inspection four classrooms were occupied during the walkthrough while one is used for lunch and after school time only. The next classroom there were two caregivers Jacqlyn Haddock and Rose Hebert caring for 15 children ages 2-4 years old. The class was transitioning back to classroom for nap time. The next classroom there was one caregiver Melissa Chambers who was caring for 13 children ages 18 months to 2 years old, the children were laying on their mats for nap time.

4a – After the delivering lessons, Miss Hannan assessed the instructional session and provided suggestions to improve upcoming lessons. 4b – Miss Hannan collaborated with the cooperating teacher for an efficient and effective process of recording and maintaining accurate assessment for each student. 4c – Miss Hannan described that parents and teachers are “ultimate teammates” in a student’s education. She kept parents informed by a weekly newsletter that was written by students. Understanding that parents need to be made aware of their child’s progress, Miss Hannan communicated positive and areas of challenges by sending notes and emails to parents.
According to developmental psychology a person at any age is at a certain stage of cognitive, moral, psychosocial, and physical development. This development is measured by different types of thinking, mental capacity for tasks, physical strength, and reasoning for following rules. Development is easily seen in children. Naturalistic observation is the one of the easiest method to see these developments in children. This is the observation technique I used, while watching a five year old male at Kindercare Daycare at 3:30 on a Friday.
The class was having music time. The Toddler 3 classroom had 2 caregivers Cherry Morris and Brittany Northcott who were caring for 8 children ages 2-3 years
They held it really well with the children 's. The children’s carburetor with the adults well. so , they made me wait till they had all the children 's back in the building and settle down. On Monday February 29, Doris arrived at my center and informed me that she's here for an inspection. During the inspection, she informed me that my Preschool room is out of ratio and that I have two infants under 17 months there. I would like for her to specify who those infants are because of the two youngest children that I moved to the toddler room, neither was under 17 months. I processed several applications for employment the week of February 22 and submitted background checks on the following applicants: Amber Jones, Nancy Estrada, Margie Lovaton, and Farzana Zehra. I hired Amber, Nancy and Margie pending background results and kept Farzana on standby in case she was needed.
Today I began my day with participating in the Toddlers classroom, where there was only one child when I arrived. I joined the boy as he played with animal shapes and with blocks. The instructor asked the boy questions. For example, “What animal is that?, Which one of these is blue? or Can you say blue?”.
Introduction This assignment is in two parts. The first part of this assignment would attempt to use the theories of human development to explain the child behaviour observed during child observation at the preschool while the second part of this assignment would propose an intervention on a scenario at my practice placement. I would demonstrate my critical understanding of the theories and evaluate their relevance for evidence-informed and value-based practice. I would conclude by articulating my critical appreciation of the use of theory to inform professional social work practice based on my experience from the child observation and my placement experience.
The teacher reacts with the children to keep them interested and moving. Some of the time the children just likes to sit in the teacher 's lap and not get involved with the other children. One day, Mrs. Lauren sat on the rug during sensory play and two of the children wanted to sit in her lap while the other children wanted to play. Sometimes the children seem to get out of control. Mrs. Lauren always makes sure that she handles the children with love and care.
Along the east wall of the room, two centers were designated, one being a reading (quiet) center with two bean bag chairs and several book shelves filled with different levels (reading) books. The other center was a manipulative center, which included several puzzles, games, and interactive manipulatives. Along the south wall of the classroom was a long table with three computer stations set up on the table. On the west wall was several cabinets and shelving for teacher supplies and files. Along the north wall was the teacher desk, and another center area with bean bag chairs, and several iPads, cd players, and other technology devices.
