In the Declaration of Independence, the most influential document in our nation’s history, is the phrase, “All men are created equal.” When the sentence was written in 1776 by Thomas Jefferson, it carried with it the idea of hope, equality, and freedom. However, the once awe inspiring phrase is empty and meaningless. It's once patriotic and equitable message was lost to the persistent and grotesque societal illness that is racial stereotyping. Education is an important key to life because it determines youth’s future. Without the proper education, the young youth’s can’t support themselves and their family when they gradually get older due to the fact that they won’t be able to earn a job. We can see that the proper education leads you to a successful life. Racial stereotyping leads a person to maintain power and have control over a victim. This can lead to bullying and being bullied by racial stereotyping is one way that creates a negative impact on innocent students academic performance. “Asian Americans are the most frequently bullied ethnic group due to such stereotypes, according to a 2004 study conducted with nearly 1,400 students”(Hwang, H. (2011, December 10). We strongly can see how these innocent Asian Americans are prone to bullying over racial stereotyping. Now we all know about the stereotype that “All Asians are extremely smart” and come with reasons on how they have a good academic life but less often do we stop and think about what struggles they are confronted with in their academic lives. When most races hear the words African American, negative thoughts rush to their brains. But why? Africans Americans have been perceived as negative characters to other races for decades. Individuals often forget large amount of blacks have been successful in life and still are accomplishing many things. Today, we live in a world where the bad outweighs the good. The three most prevalent races that comprise the population of my school are White, African American, and Hispanic. Whites are the predominant demographic occupying about 85% of the population, followed by African American at 13% and Hispanic at 2%. This ratio has been relatively stable for the last forty years, with a slight increase recently in the Hispanic populace. Throughout the course of our lives, we are often exposed to stereotypes that help form our opinions. In many instances these beliefs are not based on reality, but on information that has been passed down for generations.

Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. Bullying has been a critical issue around schools, but before it was not as dangerous and know as it is now. These do not means bullying was not happening, it means it was not taken into consideration by parents or teachers. They thought it was just peer pressure or a kids game, and sooner or later the kids would be friends again. At one point, bullies think it’s normal to be mean and abusive to other students.
In addition, Mehta et al. (2013) found that when students perceive that bullying and teasing are widespread in their school, they feel less safe and become less engaged in their school experience. As a result, they have less commitment to doing well at school and they are less likely to participate in school activities.
