Thank you for contacting me about Sanctuary Cities. I appreciate knowing your thoughts on this issue.
The concept of sanctuary cities received widespread public attention when Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an undocumented immigrant and repeat drug offender, murdered Kathryn Steinle in San Francisco. Currently, an estimated 340 cities across the country permit illegal immigrants to stay in the United States without the possibility of being arrested or deported back to their home country.
In response, Congress passed H.R. 3009, the Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act, introduced by Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA). As an original cosponsor, I voted in favor of H.R. 3009. The bill would block certain federal funds to jurisdictions that

The nation demonstrated their decision in the lack of federal support and violence in Yazoo City in 1874, the Clinton shoot out and the Peace Conference. The Yazoo indecent began similar to Vicksburg -with violence; The White liners massacred Blacks at a Republican gathering. Soon after, Yazoo city was in uproar and armed white liners took over the county; whites were killing Negroes left and right. Ames received reports this news and unfortunately, he received similar reports from all over the state.
Where an african american child was shot and killed, only, he did nothing wrong. Even if it was a small mistake, this caused uproar and outrage. The citizens of Ferguson started mobs and burned down shops, while the police fended them off as well as they could, but there was not much government intervention, which is why without a doubt, this kind of outrage may start again in another town. But, from small towns to big cities, the issue spreads. In San Bernardino, two people massacred coworkers at a party and fled the scene, even if the police did their best, people were still upset that this happened, which is totally understandable.

In 2010, Arizona S.B. 1070 was an anti-illegal immigration law that was passed to focus on identifying, prosecuting, and deporting undocumented immigrants. Arizona’s law enforcement officials could detain anyone who was suspected of living in the country illegally. The law also made it a state misdemeanor crime to for an alien to not carry registration papers and people in the country illegally to solicit work. But, Arizona S.B. 1070 was charged with violating the federal Supremacy Clause by enacting its own immigration enforcement laws instead of following federal regulations; violating the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment by denying minorities their equal protection of the laws; violating the 1st Amendment by scrutinizing minorities
In the summer of June 13,2015, a 28 year old female by the name of Sandra Bland was found dead in her cell. Three days before her death she was pulled over by Sheriff Glenn Smith and she was sent to the local Waller County jail in Prairie View, Texas. There are two sides to the story, starting with Ms. Bland was commited suicide and the the argument against that was she was killed by one of the sheriff (Stanford, 2015). She is not the only black female who experienced police violence. She is added on the list of black women who were violently brutalized by police.
According to Hernandez, “ Mexicans in the borderlands, regardless of immigration of citizenship status, were subject to high levels of suspicion, surveillance, and state violence as border patrol officers aggressively policed not only the U.S and Mexico border but also Mexican communities and work sites” (Hernandez Pg. 2). In her book, Hernandez tells the story of how Mexican immigrant workers became
Over the past couple of years’ police brutality has played a great whole in the arrest of African Americans and Caucasian officers. Many people may have heard about the unfortunate findings that police have killed many unarmed individuals such as: Michael Brown Jr., Alton Sterling, and Philando Castile; additionally, there is one case where a young lady was found deceased three days after she was arrested. The difference between all of these cases is that this young lady, Sandra Bland, death was eventually ruled a suicide. Ultimately, there still remains questions to why Blands simple traffic violation ever turned into a confrontation. Bland had just moved to Texas in order to get a fresh start on life, she even had a job lined up for herself.
Though the suspect was found, people in the area saw shutting down the city as unnecessary. It caused thousands of kids to miss school, economic costs issues linked with shutting down public transportation, and many of the working class people who need their wages were not paid that
The government received rewards when they ruled that the person that was detained was a run away slave which led to many free black being faulsy accused and sold into bondage. Under the SB 1070 any citizen who gives a ride to an undocumented immigrant would be fined 1,000 dollars. It can be expected that many Latino’s would be shunned to because people would fear that they were undoumented. Finacial motivation also exist in SB 1070 because anti-immigrants citizens can sue official who do not enforce the new immigration law against the suspected alines. Since the official do not want to pay fines and attorney fees many Latino will be harrassed with arrests and be abused regarles of their legal status because they fear that they will be trargeted for litigation if they don’t take
Yet, nearly 80 percent of these cases are ending with DHS [Department of Homeland Security] ordering these same families deported back to the very dangerous conditions they fled. Disturbingly, it has been reported that as many as 83 Central American immigrants recently denied asylum were murdered within months of their return…I urge you to immediately end these raids and not deport families back to countries where a death sentence awaits. We cannot continue to employ inhumane tactics involving rounding up and deporting tens of thousands of immigrant families to address a crisis that requires compassion." ProCon.org.
Also, there was the John Crawford accident in 2014 who was on the phone with his mother of his kids when he was shot and killed by police for being suspected as a dangerous shooter. These incidents have led to very damaging riots like the one in Ferguson, Missouri because Michael Brown was shot and killed after bullying a store clerk. A much more recent episode of rioting took place in Baltimore, Maryland after the death of Freddie Gray who was manhandled and not given medical assistance after being brutalized. During one account where an officer attacked a black man, the department stated that it had nothing to do with race but the man feels differently. Across the nation and all over social media many have given their opinions about these issues with the majority saying that the government really needs to step in and help the situation.
Despite the multiple attempts at creating a well-rounded immigration reform the United States has failed to achieve the full capacity of the reform. The United States first failure at the reform was in 1986 when congress passed the “Immigration Reform and Control Act”. The purpose of this legislation was to amend, revise, and re-assess the status of unauthorized immigrants set forth in the Immigration and Nationality Act. The content of this bill is overwhelming and is divided into many sections such as control of unauthorized immigration, legalization and reform of legal immigration.

Jonathan Monaghan’s Police State Condo is "a series of sculptural print works. Security cameras, TSA checkpoints, and ATM machines blend with designer fabrics and penthouse views to create ominous vignettes reminiscent of advertisements for posh apartments.” The pieces themselves are polished to perfection with symmetry and unity to an overarching theme of royalty, cleanliness, and utopia. Yet, under the upper class style apartment is a deeper message pertaining to the security and private information dilemma we face today in society and instead represents a dystopia. The muted color tones overall keep the pieces from being overpowering so adding in a highlight of rose gold, gold, or obsidian truly gives a full spectrum of dynamic coloring to each of the pieces.
