The government has been taking more and more control over what we have been consuming. They have too many worries going on in America to try to judge us on how we eat. The government shouldn’t have any involvement in how we eat and what we need to do to limit obesity in America. The Government may have control over our meals and diets, but they also don’t understand it is recommended for men to consume 2,700 calories and 2,200 for women. The average school lunch has 750 to 850 calories. “Spending millions of dollars, also limiting the portions” (Daniel). They may spend fortunes on our food, but none of the food they provide is nutritional. From an athletes perspective it’s also hard to practice at a full potential. For all the cuts that have been made to school foods, six percent has not been a big decrease. School lunches don’t provide any nutritional value for the kids. The purpose for a school lunch is to provide kids with a dependable lunch that has good proportional amounts and nutrition value. The obesity rates need to drop higher and faster in the next ten years if they want to make cuts out of our meals and the meals need to be proportioned to size.
The government may have cut down on the obesity mass around the world, but some people go home hungry because they only get provided the school lunches. But, some people are starving because the low cut down. Some people would rather be fat than to be starved to death. People need their food to fulfill their daily body needs such as calorie count above 1,500. Also, a good source is a protein to keep their body running. Therefore, the government shouldn’t have any say in what we eat or what nutritional values we take in. One reason is that we don’t get enough nutrition. Another reason is that some kids go home hungry because they don’t get enough income from their homes to afford food. Lastly, obesity rates have only dropped a slight amount which is not enough to make a difference. Keeping the government out of what we eat could benefit our future in nutritional
In his article Are You Responsible For Your Own Weight?, policy analyst Radley Balko argues that the Government has no business interfering with what individuals eat. Kelly Brownell, a Yale Chairman, and Marion Nestle a New York University professor state otherwise by arguing that the Government should intervene to create conditions that lead to healthy eating. Balko has a strong argument led with in depth examples, logical support, and credentials to support his tone along with minor fallacies. Kelly Brownell and Marion Nestle fail to go more in depth about her argument, but rely heavily on trying to counter the claims given by the opposing side. The lack of rhetorical devices in her article and inadequate organization weakens her tone as well as the appeal to their audience.
Do you think school lunches are healthy for you or no? Allowing the principal to let us change the meals would lead to less healthy foods then they already are. Athletes need a larger lunch, and limiting the lunch to be healthier can affect them badly. students should be the ones to decide the food they eat, not the school. Although it can allow some students to lose weight, changing the school lunch to be healthier will not be good because it will make a small impact or even a negative impact,
Let's just imagine eating healthier food everyday for lunch , ewe , I don't think so ! While some people believe schools should have healthier lunch menus , I believe we shouldn't because schools do not season food how one person may like them, lunch maybe the best meal someone gets , and the same food overtime is nasty. Many schools do not put seasoning on foods because some students can not have certain ones , so the food does not have that much of a taste already. By making it healthy plus no seasoning isn't all that good at all. Some students come to school looking forward to school lunches.
(Cavendish) School lunches provide nutrients which gives energy for them, for their later classes, and most school lunch is known to be more of a lunch than the junk food being eaten at
Some countries have already found out that obesity is a problem and they are taxing lots of unhealthy food higher. Last, Bittman states that “A 20 percent increase in the price of sugary drinks nationally could result in about a 20 percent decrease in consumption, which in the next decade could prevent 1.5 million Americans from becoming obese and 400,000 cases of diabetes, saving about $30 billion. ”(78) The United States spend lots of money on health, and if people can save this much money, then that money can be used on things to help the economy. Taxing food would be good for the people and on the government because fewer people would be obese and the government would save a lot of money and could get out of the massive debt that they are
Looking at the people today it amazes me that we do so many great things yet we can’t control ourselves when it comes to what we eat. We have a community full of obese people except for a small part of the population. When you look outside you no longer see anybody walking around, there are only cars. On each street there are at least 10 different fast food places and occasionally you’ll drive by a whole foods, but it will be mostly deserted unless you’re able to afford the food in there. Everything you see is always in close proximity to make sure no extra walking is required.
Some people may argue that school lunches are not healthy enough and need to be changed to foods that are more nutritious.
Americans today are well-known for their eating habits. With all the options the food industry gives us it makes it hard to go to the grocery store and resist picking up that bag of barbeque-flavored chips or blueberry flavored candy. Due to these processed foods obesity is a growing epidemic in our country and who is to blame for it? In an article entitled “What You Eat is Your Business” by Radley Balko, Balko argues for less government intervention. Balko believes is it our responsibility to take care of ourselves and make it a priority.
In conclusion schools should not change the lunches because they don't have the power to tell students can or can't eat, they don't have the time and money, and finally because they are not allowed to put a limit on how much a student can eat due to the “No Kid Hungry
The school lunches impacting more than just the schools money, it’s impacting the students education and after school activities just like sports teams. First of all ,students are getting bad grades because they aren’t eating anything at school because the school lunches are disgusting. This world is full of
After all, students should get a say in what they want, not what others want for them. Regulating school lunches does not make students healthier. Instead, it only pushes them away. This particular restriction is not necessary and will only cause issues. Providing a hearty and delicious meal that all students will enjoy is the best
One, it gives you energy for the day, and it is said to improve how you perform in school. SFgate says, “It is important to refuel children's glucose supplies with a healthy lunch. A healthy lunch can give children the energy they need to stay focused, pay attention in class, and learn the information presented to them in their classes after lunchtime.” Eating healthy when we are young, is very important when we are older as well.
