The period from 1960’s to 1970’s was a hardship time for Americans because of Vietnam invasion. In an attempt to contain and defeat communism, the United States, oblivious of the enemy capability and filled with pride, invaded Vietnam at a cost of large financial expense and human lives. North Vietnamese military supported by forces of China and the Soviet Union fought the American force ferociously and was able to force America to end its invasion in 1975. As with most other third world countries, Vietnam also has a long history of colonization by European powers.

Great Britain and the Turkish Empire crossed paths during the 19th century as a result of Western Europe’s involvement in the Crimean War. The Turkish Empire was already weak from internal unrest, but Russia’s threats burdened the empire further and this eventually lead to the Crimean war. Turks were struggling to defend themselves because their weapons and methods were inferior to Russia’s, plus they were already exhausted and fatigued from internal conflicts within their own territories. Allies from Western Europe stepped in and aided Turkey during the war and they defeated Russia in the end, but this was a wakeup call for the allies because they realized the superior power of the Russian military. Before World War I, all of Europe in 1914, was tense and like a bomb or a fire was waiting to erupt. Europe had not seen a major war in years, but due to Militarism, Imperialism, Alliances, and Nationalism tensions grew high. Each country was competing to be the best by gaining more territory and growing in their military size and successful economies. World War 1 was waiting to happen and the assassination of the Archduke was the spark that lit Europe up. Hitler created the idea of Lebensraum, a German living space, which fired up the German people. With the support of his people, Hitler rearmed the German military, which went against the terms of the Treaty of Versailles.

In order to defeat Japan and be named the winner, the U.S. began constructing The Manhattan project; a top-secret government mission to create the atomic bomb. The bomb powerful enough to destroy an entire city was completed with the intention of ending the war as quickly and peacefully as possible. The bomb threat was set to plan B when the U.S. invaded Japan. While U.S. incendiary bombs had burned 67 Japanese cities, Japanese soldiers stayed strong and loyal to their country.

Document 2 states that people will rule the government, this was a dramatic change because in Great Britain, their mother country, the royalty placed laws on non-royals. It also says that the colonists want equal rights. Abigail Adams tried to communicate to her husband that women’s rights are important too (document #7). Many people did not have the courage to go up to someone and discuss women’s rights, and if they did the people usually turned down the idea.

The Western Powers responded to aggression with appeasement, and in 1939 the world was plunged into World War II, proving to the world that collective security is a better response to aggression. In 1914-1918 there was a large war with many countries, peace was not a consideration. Not only did grown men were forced to fight in the war but boys that just graduated high school were forced, and died in war. “ what was the underlying cause of world war I?” one of the major cause of the war was militarism out of one of the four. World War II was an eventful time both overseas and on the homefront. Men in the army toiled away fighting battles in the Pacific and Europe, and the war effort was just as strong at home. Industry was booming. Resources were conserved. Everyone was involved. !
