The term ‘shared knowledge can be described as socio-cultural knowledge, broadly along the lines of a set of norms, values, signifiers and cultural mores. And when an individual starts himself/herself belong to a group, that person also adopt their opinion and perspective such as in family, religious, ethnic, national groups. Since the people’s methods of inquiry changes and develops, it would be correct to say shared knowledge is dynamic. ‘Personal knowledge’ on the other hand, is defined as knowledge acquired through person’s own experiences, feelings, and the world around people’s gained through their senses and it is also dynamic which is response to our experiences. The distinction between two knowledge becomes evident when people start …show more content…
Art makes people see beyond and enriches people’s lives in several ways. In arts, there are two points of view; objective view of art, subjective view of art. Objective view of art depends on only the observer, but subjective art of view is based on personal preference. People’s idea of beauty and a aesthetics change over time and people’s perception of art depends on shared and personal knowledge. Shared knowledge affects personal knowledge in art since it creates commonly accepted paradigm that society evaluates it as ‘art’. For example painting of Leonardo da Vinci; Mona Lisa is considered as one of the most beautiful and one of the best known work of art. If people were asked whether Mona Lisa painting is good or not, all of them would say it is perfect because of its glorified depiction in pop culture and also many of them did not know the secret facial expressions of Mona Lisa. Therefore, shared knowledge affects personal knowledge in this situation. From the beginning of people’s education in school or in home, parents or teachers orient students/children and displays them what to do while they were painting. When people come across to an unknown work of art such as a book, they look at the comments on the back cover or they ask people’s opinions about that book. They decide whether they would buy it or not according to people’s …show more content…
Classical music gives a tranquil mood, watching a comedy make people laugh and this shows how art changes people’s feelings. If community, a group of people which are expert on a work of art, people accept and adopt their perspectives as their own and consider as beautiful or amazing. People’s individual experiences, tastes determine what people like and appreciate and people’s emotions also influence their sense of perception. An individual’s mood can be identified with paintings, songs. That’s why when people are sad, they listen slow, and sad music. To what extent can a piece is considered as a work of art? To what extent do people permit artistic licence?( to have the right claimed by artists to express themselves without having to adhere precisely to the truth) Some art of works are censored because of their excessive nudity, excessive use of profanity such as songs by Eminem, or Lil Wayne. Some people do not consider nude photography, songs with profanity as art. Art censors work on their own judgements and perceptions of art.The work they censor is based on their own definition of art. In addition to that, sense perception, religion have an impact of the way people see different work of art. Because of this, defining art and setting boundaries for art can not have a definite guideline and restriction. Majority of the people’s opinion affects and forms restrictions for censorship so,
What would happen to the world if kids of any age were able to watch any movie, listen to any song, and create any art they wanted? Well for starters, that would never happen, but that would be complete freedom, right? Artists, just like regular people, have their own individual opinions, but unlike regular people, some artist face censorship when expressing their ideas. In Artistic Freedom, Holden, the main character of J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, originally feels that art should be censored because it could be considered harmful to children’s mindsets.
There are different types of censorship like schools banning books and people vandalizing art they deem as offensive. Certain cities must create an insurance policy and warning for artists because so many people destroy their work. Under the article Vandalism by Pauline Barrier, she states that in the United States, “All art shown under a Council's auspices… should be insured so that there is some sort of way in which to help artists repair their work if damage does occur” (2). It is terrible that for someone to express their art freely they must have it extra protected and insured. Censoring the works of very imaginative artists destroys the uniqueness and individuality our society holds.
Set in a world of both ignorance and enlightenment, Fahrenheit 451 consumes the reader’s interest by projecting the life of a character who dares to escape the tight chains of censorship and intellectual repression. Ray Bradbury focuses in on fireman Guy Montag and his self conflicts as a result of a sterile world around him. Bradbury uses the findings of Guy Montag to present to the reader that knowledge is much more extensive than just power, and by involving different characters, he displays knowledge as happiness, fulfillment, and contentedness. Knowledge can be looked at in two different ways. The first idea of knowledge is that it’s facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or
Censorship is found in books, media, or any other form of expression. Censorship is powerful. Everyone should be aware of censorship. Censorship is a theme conveyed in the works of many, such as, I am Very Real by Kurt Vonnegut, Harrison
The film Precious Knowledge is from the perspective of a group of students at Tuscan High School in Arizona. The school system wanted to increase graduation rates and was looking at different ways to do this. The school came to the conclusion that a Mexican- American studies class will increase the dropout rate from 48 percent. This class taught students about Mexican-American history and culture with a curriculum that can be related to social justice while thinking critically and socially conscious. The Governor of Arizona started to protest this class because of the books they were reading and some of the material that was being taught was considered to be promoting the overthrow of the US Government.
There is a fine line between things that the public should have under consideration when it comes to what should be censored and what has the right to uncensored things . In my opinion, the only limitation I think should be under consideration is the censorship of public nudity. One should not be able to breastfeed in public, have intercourse with another, running around naked, or “freeing the nipple”. These situations can occur without someone knowing so it is not one ’s fault to block that image as they casually pass the person down the street.
In all learning aspects of my life, I live by the principle that the exchange of knowledge insinuates a mutual growth. As people assist each other in developing personal experiences, they both growth in the
Censorship can be described as the act of cutting out certain material that can be considered obscene or inconvenient for the community. This material can be found in social media such as in the TV, radio, or the internet. Censorship can be challenged because of the first amendment: freedom of speech. Free expression is the right of expressing opinions and ideas without any fear of being restrained or censored. However, freedom of speech does not include the right to incite actions that would harm others or the distribution of obscene material (Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, 2000).
Art is like a language, ideas and thoughts that may not be able to be articulated any other way. The big debate is whether artist artwork is a waste of resources and time, or if it is good for the world with all the creativity and the beauty it has. Art is more than justifiable to enjoy it. The enjoyment of art gives modern
Should we allow this art in our museums or in our schools? That is what authors Beisel, Dunkel, and Kristol are each discussing and sharing in their works. Although they may each come to different conclusions as to whether or not art should be censored, they each use facts, studies, and personal examples, to show ethos, pathos, and logos, to prove their argument. These discussions about free expression and censorship all come down to an assessment of the values that society finds most important.
This is because music has a powerful impact to human’s emotions
Censorship of the arts is a highly debated and controversial subject that deals with what artistic content is deemed acceptable or unacceptable to the public in society, as well as the limitations of practicing artists’ rights to express themselves through art. In this regard, art should be a way to express one’s own opinions, but should not be used as a vessel for insensitive or malicious intent in dealing with topics such as race and religion. In this essay, I will be discussing this and two other reasons as to why artists should not be given absolute freedom in creating their artworks. These other reasons are that art may also cause controversy within society when dealing with topics unaccepted by conservative members of the public, such as political views that go against the norm, as well as shocking or, to some, disturbing content such as intense or extreme gore and nudity. While these are some reasons why art censorship can be justified, I will also be discussing a counter-argument to these reasons, which is that society should not shoot down views and opinions based solely on a minority that does not approve of them.
In this essay I will be discussing on how shared knowledge can have an influence on personal knowledge. To start with, I will be discussing a situation that is ‘knowing a person’ to prove till a high extent that personal and shared knowledge have a great effect on each other including that shared knowledge can shape personal knowledge. To start with, knowing a person can fall under the two categories that are shared and personal knowledge. On one hand, personal knowledge which is gained from personal experience using intuition and instinct as a way of knowing. Equally important, if the person you know is at a deep level, for instance; a family member or a very close friend.
Throughout life we persistently acquire knowledge on an everyday bases. We accumulate information from diverse sources in many ways even if we know it or don't and then interpret it with the previous knowledge including our individual emotions, memories, sense of perceptions, language and intuition, so that we can comprehend and analyze these information. Knowledge is divided into two areas: shared knowledge,-which comes from a group or community, and personal knowledge,-which is acquired through individual experience and personal involvement. Shared knowledge requires consensus but will never grow or adapt if there is never disagreement. Knowledge evolves over time and needs disagreement in order to keep sharp, on point
This research was carried out not to only show awareness toward the society but also why people should take art seriously. Often times, we can see lots of people debating whether art is important or not. This happened because the lack of exposure and knowledge that has been taught to them. Art can help to shape the society and affect the society to broaden their view of perspective in life by referring on the artworks because each work of art can give different meanings to life.
