The United States began its history with the Revolutionary War. A war that was necessary but unwanted. The desire to avoid war continued. Although the country started with isolationist ideals, the Spanish American War proved that the United States would be forced to fight battles outside of its own borders. Never one to pick a fight, the United States would be called many times to step into a battle to take the defense of an ally or defend the ideals of freedom that are so much a part of Democracy. The American government and the people it represented had faith in the United States Armed Forces and how it would wage war. The Korean war proved to be a turning point in how the United States handled a state of war. These changes have been many, including how war is declared, who determines the strategy of war, and the attitude the President and American public have toward the soldiers who are sent to war on the behalf of the United States.
In conflicts that required the participation of the United States Armed Forces prior to the Korean War, the President of the United States would be required to go before Congress to ask for a declaration of war before sending troops into the

As part of this speech, the president would explain why the use of the United States Armed Forces was necessary and what the desired results would be. This was done to satisfy Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the United States Constitution which states that “Congress will have the power to… declare war”. President Wilson did precisely that when he addressed Congress asking for a declaration of war on February 3, 1917 in response to Germany’s unrestricted use of submarine warfare. President Wilson stated, “I have called the Congress into extraordinary session because there are serious, very serious, choices of policy to be made, and made immediately, which it was neither right nor constitutionally
1. The Spanish American War which took place in 1898 - The Spanish American War portrayed America's rise and decline of the European powers. The war also led to America gaining territories and colonies in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean (the Philippines, Cuba, Puerto Rico, The Marianas and a host of other territories). The possession of the Philippines in particular led to permanent American involvement in Asian affairs.
The United States did not want to take part in World War I, the U.S simply wanted to stay neutral but then the war started to interfere with the U.S financial state. President Wilson did not want to declare war right away, instead he stated that the United States needed to prepare their army to ensure them victory. With both sides in the war running low on supplies Wilson believed it was better to be safe than sorry since the Unites States military lacked supplies, support and unity from Americans. Why is that? The U.S military around the time of the 1900’s was considered to be one of the smallest and weakest in the world because of this there was no chance against a German army of 4.5 million men.
In “Wilson’s War Message to Congress” written by Woodrow Wilson, it occurs in the time period before Congress enters the United States into World War I, 1917. Considering that in this document it explains how Woodrow Wilson says, “It is a fearful thing to lead this great peaceful people into war, into the most terrible and disastrous of all wars… we shall fight… for democracy… for a universal dominion of right… shall bring peace and safety to all nations and make the world itself at last free”(Wilson, “Wilson’s War Message to Congress”). All through Wilson’s speech, he explains how the Imperial Government went against their word/promise to not harm, sink or destroy American ships and warn other vessels if submarines were sought to be destroyed.
Unhappy with the taxes and how his people were treated by Spain, Miguel Hidalgo Y Costilla made a strong speech and gained a large army. He took a stand against the Spanish and fought for the independence of his people. This ultimately led to Mexico’s independence and Hidalgo is remembered as a hero and a great founder of the
Since the Korean War, all American presidents have pursued the same basic policy toward the Korean Peninsula. The first priority for American presidents has been protecting, nurturing and promoting South Korea. During the Cold War, U.S. leaders regarded it as essential to check communist expansion and the deaths of nearly 34,000 Americans in the Korean War made it politically unacceptable at home to again risk the loss of South Korea. This led to the signing of a security treaty with the ROK in 1953, the stationing of American military forces in South Korea to this day and large-scale support for South Korea in earlier decades. Due to South Korea’s later economic success and democratization, Americans came to regard it as a model of the benefits
America’s Justification War happens in the world, because of a good reason or bad reason. America went to war with mexico for many reasons, many justifying their acts. Texas had become independent from mexico and was to be annexed into America. America then claimed some of the land and there was dispute over where the border was. America thought it was Rio Grande, Mexico thought it was Nueces river.
The Spanish-American War and World War1 were one of the most crucial moments in our history as Americans and the reasons we joined were for humanity and for our benefit. The U.S entered the Spanish American War and World War 1 for very similar reasons. They joined from innocent Americans getting killed or from being directly affected from the war, territory and resources, and unfair rules that hurt not just Americans but innocent people. These are the 3 main reasons why the U.S joined both of these wars.
The U.S. refused to consult countries in the regions about their affairs (Paterson 347). As a result, many countries involved in the Spanish-American war formed liberation movements to combat the influence of Spain and the U.S. In conclusion, the U.S. had superimposed its influence over these countries by managing their trade and governmental affairs and created a regional

This explosion finally made the Americans want to go to war, and so the United States decided to get involved. On April 25, 1898, the United States officially went to war with Spain to help Cuba. Instead of the battles being fast and right away, the United States was hesitant and patient. After multiple articles from Hearst and Pulitzer exposing the horrors in Cuba and the rumors about the explosion of the U.S. Mains, America finally got involved in the Spanish American
The United States didn’t enter the war until 1917 because of their policy of isolationism, but they entered because Germany sunk a British ship that had 128 American passengers on board, Germany sent Mexico a telegram trying to form an alliance, and America had loaned the allied powers lots of money and didn’t want to lose it if they lost. The United States also changed their foreign policy from isolationism to involved in world
In Sleuthing The Alamo, James E. Crisp investigates Sam Houston’s speech made to the soldiers at Refugio. Upon reading the speech, Crisp was in disbelieve at the vulgar, anti-Mexican words used by Houston while addressing the men of Refugio. What Crisp read had contradicted everything he had known of Sam Houston, and led him to dig deeper into the sources to find the facts. Crisp is able to restore Sam Houston’s honor by recognizing the disconnection in his speech, heavily researching the sources, and disproving Houston’s speech. Along the way, Crisp makes two discoveries that help lead to solving his case.
In the early 1900’s European countries began competing and with that they were also building strong army’s and navy’s. After a while, the United States got involved and were in need of the people’s support. It took convincing but once people got on board with the idea of going to war, war fever in the United States was at an all-time high. The United Nations had not yet been established which meant conflicts were not getting resolved. This was unlike anything the U.S. had done before.
Woodrow Wilson was our great nation’s 28th President and he delivered an eye opening speech to congress on April 2, 1917. Woodrow Wilson’s Declaration of War speech was a plea to congress to recognize the already present war between Germany and the United States. Congress was seemingly ignoring the war until then. The speech was directed to all Americans and congress before him.
As kids people get taught what is wrong and right from a parental figure or experiences of life teach us how to react to different situations. When we finally turn adults no one is there to remind us of what’s good and what's bad so we have to use our past experiences and our knowledge to help guide us. Each adult shapes their societies for their generation and many more generations to come. Mohandas k. Gandhi and Susan B Anthony’s speech along with the article Selma to Montgomery March on history show that civil disobedience is a moral responsibility.
