CONCEPT 7: NURSES RESPONSIBILITIES IN MAKING SUCCESSFUL STRATEGIC PLANNING
This concept is taken from Block 3, Module 7 which is entitled as “Planning-1”. Strategy can be defined as a plan of action to accomplish or fulfil a certain task. Planning is the act of making course of action or formulating plans. Margaret Rouse defined strategic planning as a review and planning process that is undertaken to make thoughtful decisions about an organization’s future in order to ensure its success.

In order to achieve success in strategic planning at administrative nursing, I often meet with nurses and other healthcare personnel to identify the major problems at work, seek ways to solve them and processes to take in solving the problems in order to achieve excellence in services while in patients care, I ensure that the nurses plan care accordingly using a great planning tool in nursing for planning patients care known as nursing process approach. A goal is a result that one is attempting or trying to accomplish. Measurable goals are of great help to an organization because managers and the employees can easily evaluate the progress and outcomes.
• Evaluating progress- This involves assessing the goals to determine if the measures taken to meet the set goals are effective or giving the needed outcomes. When evaluating the progress, you ensure that the proper steps that are selected to accomplish the goals are effective if not, you have to take appropriate steps to suit or meet the goals.
• The strategic planning process- This is an important part in an organization. In this process, the employees or staff in all sections of the health care organizations is involved in planning and making decisions. The challenges are identified and solved then ways to improve the services are employed in order to bring great outcomes to the organization.
The nurses’ responsibilities to make successful strategic planning include;
• Involving head of other healthcare personnel in strategic planning.
• Identify the major problems of the healthcare organization
• Determine and conclude how and when to solve
Strategy means the approach, plan and knowledge that is used to move in the direction that will allow the company to satisfy the customer’s wants and needs, and obtain their goal, while reaching and maintaining an economical benefit over the competition (Defining Your Business Strategy, 2016). It can further be defined as a means of evaluating at what success level they are currently sustaining, and what success level they desire to obtain and the means they will need to use to get to their desired level (Bryson p. 11). However, the health care leaders desire to fix the poor quality problems that exist in healthcare (Chassin, 2013). Hospitals are spending more capital, time, and vitality to improve quality and safety matters (Chassin, 2013).
