Introduction
According to the case scenario, Alice is a widow and she is currently receiving Comprehensive Social Security Allowance to support her living. Recently, her three years old son, Tim, was being referred to an endocrinologist for medical consultation and found out that his growth hormone is higher than normal range. This indicates that Tim is suffering from some disease. Alice became silent after the medical appointment. As Alice is the breadwinner of the family and the only caregiver to Tim, it is hypothesised that Alice is currently stressed. The learning objective of this case is to identify appropriate stress management skills for Alice.

Although caregivers may have a long life span than non-caregivers, they usually have low levels of self care. an increased risk of heart disease and are in worse health. This implies that Alice is at a high risk of having a compromised health in the long run.
The condition of caregivers and patients are highly interactive and correlated. Unstable condition of anyone of the party may lead to disastrous results. Therefore, the identification of stress management skills for caregivers like Alice is very crucial.

The second article I reviewed was Dementia and Caregiver Stress: An Application of the Reconceptualized Uncertainty in Illness Theory. This is a qualitative study involving four focus groups with six-ten volunteer participants were held, each last approximately 90 minutes. 15 caregivers cared for their parents and the remainder cared for their spouses. Multiple themes (Antecedents) emerged from the interviews and were categorized by the five dimensions of uncertainty of illness. Four of the five themes causing uncertainty involved dementia related symptoms and included lack of personal boundaries, repetitive behavior, hygiene, verbal and physical aggressiveness, and need for constant care.
Organizational Support Direct care staff often look to their direct supervisors or the organization itself for support to prevent burnout. The staff’s direct supervisor needs to be aware of the individuals employees stress level. This can be done my spending time with the individual while working directly with individuals and also listening and paying attention to what the staff member is saying. Many human service organizations offer very generous paid time off packages to their employees so that the employees have the opportunity to take time off for themselves or their families. While the paid time off package is nice the organizations need to look at other options as well to keep valuable employees and reduce burnout.

During admission we have to assess the patient as well as their healthcare needs in order to establish the best plan of care possible and this is where we can begin to identify certain needs. When you assess the patient and the family member taking care of them you can begin to identify certain signs of role strain in the caregiver such as huffing and puffing, the need to take control when questions are being asked and more. In this situation the caregiver feels like they need to control the situation and at that point the patient closes down. In a situation like this is where both education and support may start.
