Mike Webster was a center for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Webster had many injuries as a result of playing football. October Sky is a true story based on the life of Homer “Sonny” Hickam Jr. It describes how he is inspired to build rockets when he sees Sputnik, at age 14. Throughout the book, Sonny has to overcome many obstacles to achieve his dream of sending rockets into space. The reason he was able to overcome these obstacles was due to his determination to work, willingness to learn, and his faith in his friends. Because of these three things, Sonny and the other Rocket Boys were able to go to college, escape Coalwood, and get jobs in which they could pursue their dreams.

Each and everyone has our own idea of how success looks like. But for me, success is something that you’ve worked so hard to get to that you now have pride to have or be. But success isn’t so easy to reach. There's going to be challenges and times where one thinks they won't succeed. Its when you’ve flourished to the point where you’re happy with the placement of your life.

To reap you must sew, so without working hard it will be difficult for one to be successful. In today's world competitive world everyone wants to be wealthy and successful. Whether it may be a successful actor, designer, realtor, or inventor luck had nothing to do with it, but hard work does. When it came to The American Dream, people believed that if they worked hard enough they would be able to sustain a better life for those behind them. These people are overcome by fear. They are afraid to continue moving forward and taking risks. The quote itself can be translated into, an everyday person does not want to be happy and ambitious. That person will settle with what will keep them alive. I agree with this quote for a few reasons.

Homer didn’t let this stop him, his father may have yelled, thrown away his kits, and told Homer to give up. Homer had a dream and he wasn’t going to let anything stop him. Homer had many setbacks, but he kept working to perfect the team's rocket. Homer's actions really shows the reader that he will never give up on his dream.
