Imagine that you are a troubled princess, lying on your back in the swamp, when you meet a talking frog who claims to be a prince from a faraway kingdom. He says that he has been cursed, and the only way to break the spell was if somebody kisses him. You pity the poor prince, so you lean in, kiss the frog, and in seconds you become a frog yourself! The “prince,” a dirty villager boy, runs away cackling like a witch and leaves you stranded in the swamp. In Vivian Vande Velde’s novel, Frogged, a villager boy tricks Princess Imogene into becoming a frog, while trying to find help she was kidnapped by a runaway teenager and taken to a traveling theater.
The 2006 British film “The Queen” depicts events that unfolded after the death of Princess Diana in 1997. In the film, the British Royal Family did not react the way the public expected them to. Due to their lack of grief that was publicly shown towards Princess Diana’s death, it resulted in their actions being heavily criticised by British media and the public. Newly elected Prime Minister, Tony Blair, had to step in to help the Royal Family deal with their bad relations to the public, with the help of Diana’s ex-husband, Prince Charles. From the in-depth movie analysis, this essay will be able to show that the media is able to influence the people and their stance towards certain topics by applying these media theories: agenda setting through gatekeeping, dramatization, and two-step flow of communication.
Money is a wonderful resource in life, but it
In the excerpts from both James Poniewozik's "The Princess Paradox" and Peggy Orenstein's "Cinderella and Princess Culture", the authors address the growing market of princess products and how big ticket companies are using this knowledge to turn a profit. Both authors are highly respected journalists who have been published in the New York Times multiple times. Each has done their own intensive research on the media's use of princesses and their culture to make money. While both authors address how corporations are finding profit in "princess culture", Poniewozik focuses on how movie studios found princess stories to bring money in from young audiences, while Orenstein appears more concerned with how Disney branded princesses.
Lion, directed by Garth Davis, is a compelling interpretation of a remarkable true story of Saroo Brierley, lost as a child and reunited with his family 25 years later. Throughout Davis explores the unique circumstances under which Saroo is separated and reconnected with his family and his journey along the way. At some points of the film, I was confronted by how Saroo, a five-year-old boy, expertely navigates, with great instinct and genuine innocence, through an extended, yet life threatening ride. To put it in other words, Lion is a journey that grabs you entirely; whether you want it or not, and you are involved in each and every scene. I instantly fell in love with the connection and relationship between Saroo and his older brother
Film reviews are a big part of the movie world because that is what people look at to decide whether or not they want to see a movie or not. The film I picked to write about is A Cinderella Story directed by Mark Rosman and written by Leigh Dunlap. This movie made its debut in 2004. The setting of this film is in San Fernando Valley. In this film, there are a lot of people that make up the cast but I will just talk about the main characters.
The movie “The Princess and the Frog” is not your typical “boy saves girl” movie. Instead, this Disney movie presents us with a strong female lead who doesn’t need a man to achieve her goals. In many previous Disney movies, it is demonstrated that a girl needs a man in order to get her happily ever after. Without a prince, she is nothing. In “The Princess and the Frog” the gender roles are presented to us as equal, even reverse at times.
The Princess Bride is a classic fantasy novel, written by William Goldman in 1973, filled with “fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles” (The Princess Bride film), but most importantly true love. True love is one of them most important themes in the novel and movie adaptation because it is the driving force of the action. It is a reoccurring theme as the characters mention how rare true love is, however, it is only in the Fire Swamp that show the audience what true love is. The events surrounding the Fire Swamp enforces the idea that true love is worth all the sacrifices and risks.
Even 'The Lion King ' (1994), the Disney animated
Over the past century, film has served as a powerful means of communication to a global audience and has become a vital part of the contemporary culture in a world that is increasingly saturated by visual content. Due to the immediacy and the all-encompassing nature of film, the process of watching a film, is widely perceived to be a passive activity by the general masses. However, quoting Smith in his article about the study of film, “nothing could be further from the truth.” The study and understanding of film as an art form enhances the way we watch and appreciate films. It requires the audience's active participation and interaction with the film in order to fully comprehend the directors' intention behind every creative decision.
Outline THESIS: The concept of the circle of life is a dominant theme in the film reflecting the state of things in the modern society. 1. The Lion King belongs to the trend of detailed naturalism. 2.
Cinderella and Shrek both display gender expectations through fairy tale conventions, but in different contexts. The traditional version of Cinderella was written by the Brothers Grimm in the early 1800s, whereas Shrek, a film by DreamWorks, was released in 2001. Cultural and social values from both time periods are used in both films, through several techniques and conventions. Cinderella uses various fairy tale conventions, mainly relating to Cinderella and her home life. These include a conventional 19th century house maiden who has suffered, a handsome prince and a wicked stepmother.
