Trying to hurry Jerry Fenner the third, a student athlete on the wrestling team, rushes from early morning weight lifting to his first class. He has enough time to stop and grab a piece of fruit from convo but nothing else. He sits in class with his stomach grumbling, and daydreams about food, barely paying attention to what his professor has to say this early in the morning. If convo were to issue a new take-out policy allowing students to remove food from convo then Jerry would have time to grab breakfast and eat it on his way to class or even during class. Without his stomach growling, Jerry may be able to focus better during his class allowing him to be a better student. Being a student athlete takes up much of his time and sometimes he …show more content…
All of the students are freshman, of different majors, and one of whom is a student athlete. Each of these students agreed that they would find take-out food convenient but none of them said they would use it more than a few times a week, at most. The most common reason for wanting take-out was to grab a quick bite to eat while studying, before or after practice, or for work. Convo has specific operating hours and often times students find themselves too busy to eat during those hours but with take-out it would be possible to eat without an excess of time. Personally, I work on some weekdays from 4pm to 8pm which leaves me no time for dinner unless I wish to purchase a meal because convo is only open from 4pm to 7pm on those days. If take-out food was an option, even if it was limited to certain items, I could order take-out food after lunch so I could have dinner that day. After asking these students what they assumed the reason take-out is not currently an option all of them responded with the common concerns of take-out which is students taking more food than they would actually consume. While wasting food is a concern with this option, the benefit to the students outweighs the possibility of irresponsible
Majority of the students either agree or just don't care that freshman should be allowed to leave during lunch. From my standpoint the freshman should be able to, I know I did it when i was a freshman. Even when it was against the rules. Most still do. It will not change.
Every day students enjoy their lunches at school. They always enjoy eating their delicious meals where they have the option to chose what they want. If their lunch is changed then their options will be limited. Changing the lunch to be healthier will not be something that will be very great for our school. If the school lunch is changed then some of the students that are larger could not get the nutrition they need and hurt the ones that really need those extra calories.
Have you ever just not wanted cafeteria food? Or maybe something different from home food? Well maybe you can! Students should be allowed to leave campus during lunch because we are responsible.
As I walked into the cafeteria, I caught a whiff of the food being prepared in the cafeteria and thought to myself, “Why can’t we go off-campus to get lunch?” While SLA, the lunch program at Catholic High, provides the school lunches, there could be an alternative solution to this. Unfortunately, students are detained at school during lunch hours and are not able to leave campus during lunch forcing them to be served by SLA or bring their own lunch. If Catholic High School were to introduce an open-campus lunch, students and faculty would benefit greatly. While SLA does provide the lunch at CHS, they do not live up to their standard of “high quality, nutritious, and cost efficient”.
In addition to this, students can take care of their own dietary needs. Open campus lunch allows students to take a break from their chaotic or busy school days. Students with the option of open campus lunch can learn life lessons. If you want your students or children to be happier during school hours. Then, open campus lunches can make this happen.
The first attempt and success to climb Mt. Everest occured in 1953. Since then, almost 4,000 people have been able to scale the mountain, but over 230 people have not been able to climb it successfully. There is a chance of accident or death when climbing this mountain or any dangerous activity. All people should should have the right to rescue services even if they knowingly put themselves at risk because there is always a chance of an accident happening, rangers are there to save people in danger, and there are rescue vehicles being produced to be used in case of an emergency.
Many students and staff have a full day of classes and having a full schedule does not permit enough time to go off campus for lunch. In addition, there are some students that get dropped off by their family, friends or public transportation and not able to leave during the day. That means some students are bound to stay on campus and limited to the junk food in the vending machines. Poor weather could also limit the students from going out and the cafeteria could be utilized in times like this. A cafeteria would offer staff and students the convenience and the choice of having a healthier meal on campus.
The principal is trying to change school lunch menu's to healthier meals. I strongly believe that this is a good idea to change the lunches because of the following reasons: healthier meals makes kids grow big and strong, it gives you more energy to move around, and it taste delicious. Schools all around should consider changing their lunches for the better of their student. This is for the better of the student to have healthy food. I will go into greater detail in the following paragraphs.
Another issue that deeply affects students is the lack of time to eat. All three thousand students are fed at once, but the lunch period only lasts for thirty minutes. By the time students are actually able to sit down with their food, most of the period has already flown by. As one teacher points out: “The line for kids to get their food is very long... They get 10 minutes probably to eat their meals” (Kozol 717).
1984 Essay Technology is taking us closer to the world of Big Brother. Current technology is more than capable of monitoring our every move, and our over exaggerated fear leads to increased monitoring. I believe that we all have a right to privacy.
For example, an ill student would probably want a bowl of hot soup from their favorite restaurant not rice with meat from the school lunch. Having an Open Campus Lunch can help students choose healthier choices out of all the options provided. When students eat a healthy lunch that satisfies them, they will be able to concentrate more in class.
It is 11:18 A.M. on a regular school day, and I am anxiously monitoring the clock, hoping that the bell will ring announcing the end of fourth period and the start of lunch. I expect my lunchbox to contain the usual tuna salad and sleeve of saltine crackers. After what seems like an eternity, my science teacher dismisses the class, and I am nearly skipping on my way to the cafeteria, attracting the unwanted stares of my judgemental peers. It seems like I am the only one happy to eat the same lunch every day. My friends have already unpacked their lunches and are admiring each other’s cooking skills.
Snacking has proven to increase energy rates, which would help students’ and schools if used right. Snacking would keep students minds focused on their work and what is going on in the classroom. Although some time may be lost during the extended breaks, it would be made up. There is no point for students to sit through a class on an empty stomach and not be paying attention. This would all be solved by students being able to eat in class because it helps the mind focus and stay on task.
Studies show that overweight students tend to have more problems with learning and paying attention (Miura). Many parents also fear that children would have the chance to skip school of get into drugs and alcohol while they are loose for their lunch break. People of the communities have also expressed their fears of increased traffic and increased risk of traffic collisions (?9 Primary Pros and Cons of Open Campus Lunch?). Not only can open lunches cause health problems, but they can lead to other dangers such as a car crash or
Stress has become a major issue for high school students. Many students have seven classes, participate in sports, have after school activities, homework, and need to get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Some parents and outside influencers don’t see the benefits of having a longer lunch period for high school students. Students complain about how long school is now but they don 't have enough time outside of school to complete everything they are expected to. While it is understandable that some parents wouldn’t want longer lunches because it could result in safety issues and students having to remain in school 30 minutes longer than the traditional time, longer lunches would give students a chance to complete homework, get help from teachers, and eat a nutritious meal.
