The Colonists And The American Revolution

In the time 1770- 1790, the American colonies were being taxed on items like stamps, tea, and sugar by Great Britain so they can pay off their debts from the 7 year war. These increase of taxes were called acts, and we will be going into more detail about this soon. Great Britain politically involved with the colonies and gave them outrageous taxes for for reasons. At the time Great Britain has just got done with a war with France.

•Parliament issued the first internal tax imposed directly on American colonists by the british government. It levied a tax on all printed paper in the colonies. Britain thought that it was a ongoing tax, that would be spread throughout the colonies. Colonist disagreed and it arose one of the most powerful demographic groups to oppose Britain. Colonists burned the Chancellor of the Exchequer and promised to hang him if he ever visited the colonies again.

The British were in massive debt following the French and Indian war, therefore they placed taxes on the colonists in order to regenerate some of that money lost. The Sugar Act of 1764 taxed the sale of molasses in hopes to gain some lost money, but this act led the people of Boston to boycott the molasses industry. The Stamp Act of 1765 shortly followed, making colonists buy a stamp with every paper product. The rage the colonists felt over the passing of this act, led the colonies to begin to unify as they together boycotted the trade industry. The Townshend Duties of 1767 imposed taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper and tea, but this only led to the colonist to again boycott the trade of those items and start newspaper attack.

By 1763, taxes were increasing and being used to help with the dept of the French and Indian war (George). Soon, laws were passed that helped regulate taxes, causing tension between officials and colonists because officials clearly wouldn't address these issues. These laws were taxes, like the stamp act which taxed everybody. The French and Indian war caused a huge debt for the British.

The American colonists held the Boston Tea Party on December, 1773. It was not a party though. It was a protest against taxs from England. The British Parliament had already taxed sugar, coffee, wine, and newspapers. The tea tax was too much.

The increase of taxation led to a crisis from colonial people. Riots were established to those who initiated or supported the taxes, stealing everything from some members homes but the foundation and walls. Groups were formed of colonialists who sought liberty, declared the excessive taxation as unconstitutional and fought to protect what they felt were consumer rights. This all lead to the great American revolution in which once the Stamp Act was placed by the parliament, colonial society then produced a stamp act congress to counteract the parliaments decision. This establishment led to the Continental Congress, which eventually separated the colonies from the parliament to then govern themselves and cut ties to the English Crown moving towards

The king of England was wanting to tax our imports such as goods or supplies so he could make some extra money, that is just what is happening right now, Congress is wanting to tax our regularly used programs for their gain. The American Revolution was a war between the American colonies and Great Britain, in which the American colonies won their independence from great Britain. Gaining their independence from Britain was not as easy as it might have sounded. People in America were strongly independent and wanted to do things for themselves, but Great Britain had different plans for the them. The rules that were inflicted upon the Americans evoked many factors that were responsible for the American Revolution. The British government used ways to coerce the Americans.

The colonists had good, well, even great reasons to be angered by British Parliament! The way the revolution started was in people's principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections. What made the colonists willing to fight the British was printed words. Small newspapers had appeared all over New England in the years before the war.

The colonists wanted representation when it came down to being taxed, but the British government would not allow it. The government wanted full control over the people, so they made sets of acts and laws that were placed on taxation. For example, the Stamp Acts of 1765. These acts taxed all papers, pamphlets, newspapers, and cards. The Townshend Acts of 1767 were also a large part of taxation.

After the French and Indian War the British were had a gargantuan debt! In order to pay off such a huge debt they imposed new taxes and enforced old ones. Great Britain thought that it was allowed to pass laws like these, because Britain had protected the colonists therefore the colonists have to give obedience. Laws like the Stamp Act, Sugar Act, Tea Act, and along with the British being oblivious to colonists’ pleas to change the harsh laws (Document 2) allowed

The French and Indian War left England with a debt of £130,000,000. To help pay off the debt Britain set up taxes, to collect money, on frequently used products by the colonists. The Molasses Act put a six pence tax on every gallon of molasses. The colonists thought this was a lot of money to pay so they did everything to avoid it. This act was not really enforced and the colonists did not really obey this act.

Arguably, these taxes were only placed by Britain to “milk” the colonies for profit. Ben Franklin responded to the Stamp Act, writing a letter to John Hughs to discuss efforts to get it repealed (Document G). . In a way, the series of taxes applied by Parliament would spark a fire within the colonists and begin the American Revolution, where Americans finally say enough is enough. The time had come for political and ideological change, where the colonies would break from their motherland, Great Britain. In conclusion, the French Indian War would kick off a series of political, economic, and ideological events that changed the relationship between Britain and its colonies forever.

The boston tea party occurred when colonist as a way of rebelion attack british by throwing the tea that they found in their ships. And some people wonder why they did that and historic events show that there were French Indian War before that make the colonists to have an economic crisis so they can pay for the products. And the unique product that haven’t tax was the tea.
