The Culper Spy Ring The Culper Spy Rings was a spy network started by George Washington to get information about the British, during the Revolutionary War. The Patriots (colonists) were fighting against the British, in this war. The Patriots hoped to gain freedom from Britain, liberty, and equality by winning the war. Since the Patriots forces were only the colonists, they didn’t have a lot of weapons or people on their side, and the people they did have were not well trained to fight.

V. Both the conscience Whigs and free-soilers were against slavery and wanted to expand the Union to the west. The conscience Whigs believed that Polk was creating a war just to add new add land to the Union and possibly new slave states. As a result this gave slave-owning Democrats permanent control of the federal government. The free-soilers believed slavery was a threat to republicanism and could ruin the Jeffersonian ideal of a freeholder society. They started to become important after the annexation of Texas and the Mexican-American War.

Between the years 1868 and 1878, the Republican Radicals controlled most of the states in the South. This control was affected by an unstable alliance of three groups: freedmen, carpetbaggers, and scalawags. These groups took advantage of the fact that the South's former leaders were not allowed to hold office or vote. The carpetbaggers were Northerners who descended on the South. Some were adventurers; others sought honest business and political opportunities; still others wanted to help the former slaves.

As Albion Toruage quoted, “ Another brave, honest Republican citizen has met his fate at the hands of these fiends.” Then Abram Colby, a former slave who was elected to the Georgia State Legislature during Reconstruction,(Doc. B,Para. 1) was taking from his bed and into the woods to be whipped for more than 3 hours and left there to die. (Doc.B,Para.1) When being asked how the men looked like, he stated, “ One is a lawyer, one a doctor, and some are farmers.”

The War of 1812 and the urge that the War Hawks had to declare war on Britain caused social, political, and geographical changes between the years 1812 to 1815. The War Hawks were a group of pro-war Jeffersonian Republicans. Since the War Hawks were pro-war, they strongly advised Congress to declare war on Britain in 1812. It has been proven that when the time came to vote, most states voted in support of war. Most people voted in support of the war because of the War Hawks.

The American Revolution was a time period where there were 13 colonies in America exploring more of the land everyday, The british shared the land with people who are called the pilgrims and ended up soon turning into Patriots and after that Americans. Great Britain started abusing their colonists while there were shootings and many taxes of colonists, many were unfair, and this led to the revolution. This war was between The Patriot/Americans against the British/Loyalists. The revolution happened because a few major events in history took place in Boston others will say it as British Territory.

There are four laws associating with the Alien and Sedition acts of 1789 within America. Americans feared that the French were going to come and invade the 13 colonies that resided within the North American continent. John Adams, the president at the time, and his Federalist acquaintances, created these 4 laws that limited speech and could allow them to remove any immigrants. Thomas Jefferson argued that the laws were not needed because the French were too busy meandering with their own affairs with the Brits, but action was taken by the Federalist Party. The Acts contradicted the Bill of Rights and were completely unnecessary, even if the French actually invaded the U.S.

Since the beginning, the institution of slavery which would keep African Americans chained was bound to cause problematic for America as a whole. The controversy of African Americans were the initial reason that the Civil War even began, and they greatly shaped the course of the war through their efforts fighting for the Union which the government could not deny, they became the main reason for the war, and paved the way to the beginning of African Americans being able to grasp rights along with the hardships socially. In the years right before the Civil War began, there was growing tension between Northern and Southern states over the issue of slavery. It snapped shortly after Abraham Lincoln, who openly frowned upon slavery, won the election

The Sons of Liberty became known as a patriot group founded in the Boston colony. They formed before the American Revolution and independence from Great Britain, known first as the “Loyal Nine.” The Sons of Liberty protested unfair taxes imposed by the British crown, terrorized British colonial authorities and contributed to the start of the American Revolution. The objective of the Sons of Liberty was to stop implementation of the 1765 Stamp Act by any methods including viciousness.

The Ku Klux Klan, made up of former Confederate officers who idealized an antebellum Southern heritage, became folk heroes by terrorizing outsiders who challenged race relations by assisting blacks. Catholics, foreigners, former slaves, and their sympathizers were targeted for wanting to push reforms that went against the Southern way of life. As one historian points out, the KKK gained sympathy because they were seen as defenders and policemen of the people who protected the prevailing values of society, including Protestantism, whiteness, and genteel southern culture (Kinshasa 15). The KKK and its sister organizations were even sponsored by state governments, such as Kentucky and Mississippi, as a police force to maintain the status quo (Parsons 160). The presence of the Klan and other forms of white resistance offered white residents a form of security during this uncertain time period.

The sons of Liberty were very violent people nobody could argue otherwise, and most was for their own profit and gain. They were very fanatic and dangerous. My reasoning be that they would treat others with no care or regard for their well being. A lot of the things the Sons of Liberty did were very cruel and mostly unnecessary, for example tarring and feathering people was immoral.

This historical study will define the moral leadership of Abraham Lincoln’s role as president during the Civil War. Lincoln’s role as an anti-Slavery supported in the north provided the necessary moral leadership to sustain a complex war involving the continued argument about the continued existence of the institution of slavery. In this context, Lincoln had not previously been a supporter of the northern abolitionist movements before becoming president, yet throughout the Civil War, he incrementally began to realize the political and moral implications of slavery as a dire threat to American freedoms. Lincoln’s opposition to slavery during his presidency defined a major change in U.S. history, which galvanized the North to challenge the dominance of pro-slavery in the South. This commitment to ending slavery formed the foundation of Lincoln’s role as a liberator of African-American slaves as a defining factor of the war.

Two prominent political groups among the American colonists played vital roles in pushing towards a war. These two political groups are the Patriots and the Loyalists. Both groups were gearing towards war, but the Patriots was the group that was known to portray violence. With Britain raising taxes more than double within a years time, it angered Patriots. The patriots felt that the taxes just continued to threaten land ownership.

The Unions leaders had General George B. McClellan. He commanded the Army of the Potomac. He was very well loved by his men and always wanted the best for them but at the expense of the Union. He disliked abolitionists and the Republican Party and had very little respect for Abraham Lincoln himself but his biggest problem was that he was a perfectionist. Because of this, McClellan was almost always ready to move but not quite.
