The Disappearance of Susan Cox Powell An explosion occurs within a suburban Washington home. This explosion brought about the climax of the case concerning the disappearance of Susan Cox Powell. On December 6th, 2009, Susan Cox Powell went missing after a camping trip with her husband, Joshua Powell, and her two sons, Charlie and Braden. A nationwide search ensued and suspicion quickly pointed towards Josh. While there is no physical evidence, in Susan’s case, that ties Josh to her disappearance, there is substantial implied evidence that makes him an incredibly likely suspect. Implied evidence means evidence that is found based on Josh’s behavior both before and after Susan’s disappearance. One piece of this evidence that was found was Susan’s cell phone in Josh’s van the day after she went missing. This confused the police because why would she leave her phone if she planned on going out by herself? Police quickly pointed Josh out as the prime suspect, considering his, and his two childrens’, testimony placed all four of them camping the night of Susan’s disappearance. Susan’s own husband seemed to be the only person in the state that didn’t care about finding her. Josh actively avoided the police and every attempt made by the media to interview him. Even when the media succeeded in getting an interview with him and his two sons, Josh avoided any kind of question that would place him under further suspicion. The same cannot be said about Braden and Charlie. When asked about his mom, Charlie said, “My mom is staying where the crystals are”. This was a chilling thing for the boy to say and it also led the police to search the abandoned mineshafts
