The progression of critical thinking requires the nurse to think imaginatively, use reflection, and engage in logical thinking (Alfaro-LeFevre, 2013). Critical thinking is a vital skill needed for the recognition of patient’s problems and the execution of interventions to endorse effectual care outcomes (Bittencourt & Crossetti, 2012).

Final Self-Assessment During the FNP III rotation, the student has seen many patients who have complex chronic illnesses than other two rotations that she completed for the FNP I and FNP II courses. The student had many opportunities to independently interview and exam the patients, then come up with differential diagnoses and treatment plan based on the pertinent and impertinent information and evidence-based practice. The preceptor, Dr. Jeanne-Elyse Cedeno, a medical physician/owner of the clinical site, always encouraged the student to think as a primary care provider in many ways. In this paper, the student is going to discuss the progress of the eight objectives (see Appendix A for details), discuss her personal growth and development in the nurse practitioner role, provide the information on what she learned in the clinical that will be valuable to her future practice, and describe any missed opportunities that she did not get out of this experiences as expected, discuss for areas of improvement in the future clinical rotation, and the summarize the final evaluation with her preceptor.

Assessment is necessary during all nursing activities e.g. assisting an individual with their hygiene needs, taking observations or during repositioning/manual handling techniques. Orem’s model is a particularly effective tool in carrying out assessment as it has a practical approach in identifying patients’ needs by encompassing their universal, developmental and health deviation self-care deficits. ‘’Having a conceptual nursing model to practice may enable nurses to gather a detailed database that identifies actual and potential healthcare problems’’ (Capers, 1986). The grid, checklist format is a simple, fast and straightforward assessment guide and can be very useful in practice.

It is the person and their physical, emotional, and psychological needs that are the basic focus of nursing’s attention. In order to care for a patient, the nurse must incorporate all these needs. For example, providing reassurance with an anxious patient who just finished hip surgery. Care also plays a major part when taking care of a unique patient. Caring influences my personal philosophy because it is the most important aspect of nursing.

Nurses are critical for promoting health in the society. The profession is highly flexible, since they specialize in diverse operations in the medical field. Registered nurses, for instance, are responsible for the administration of medicine and inoculations to patients (American Nurses ' Association, 2000). Additionally, these professionals observe, record, and enlighten doctors of any changes in a patient’s health. Nurses interpret and evaluate diagnostic examinations to determine an individual’s condition, as well as making the necessary adjustments in patient treatment plans on their health progress.

A mentor in nursing is defined as someone who can facilitate learning, supervise and asses nursing students in a practice setting. This in turn produces efficient and effective students who become competent and will have mastered the craft and art of caring. Mentorship is significant to students as it helps students develop their professional identities, attributes and competence and also enables students to learn through the creation of the supportive working and learning environment as an individual (Clutterbuck 2004). Decisions taken by mentors in assessing students have significant impacts on securing the nursing workforce in the future. This is because they help safeguard the ongoing excellence in the delivery of personalized patient care while making a major contribution to the development of the nursing profession.

The final concept is nursing. To define it, it’s a serving service, and a technology (Dorothea Orem 's Self-Care Theory, 2014). Engagements intentionally designated and executed by the nurses to support individuals below their precaution to sustain or altered disorders (Dorothea Orem 's Self-Care Theory, 2014). This also includes the patient’s viewpoint of health state, the Doctor’s standpoint, and the nursing perspective (Dorothea Orem 's Self-Care Theory, 2014). Providing care to a patient is a particularly challenging process that requires a great deal of effort from a nurse. A nurse’s ability to give quality care to their patient is an important aspect to a patient’s life both now and in the future. As such, nurses must exhibit specific qualities in their practice in order to maintain the best standard of care for their patients.
